Just got game, patching is a nightmare

KomfortKomfort Member Posts: 9

I bought game via the Direct 2 Drive website.  It took maybe 5 hours to download.  I finally downloaded and install client.  I open up client and start to patch it takes about 20 minutes to get the initial patch going after that the real patch starts and the time is saying 14+ hours to patch.  Wondering if anyone else experienced this problem or this is just me?

I have a pretty good computer and a Cable modem connection.  Patching has never taken this long for anyother game.  Wow didnt even take half the time it took for me to install the client.  I am starting to get down and think that i made a mistake.

Anyone have any tips to speeding up this patch, thanks.

I don't know what they cap the patch downloads at if at all and what's your speed? Run a speed test and post the results.

patching time display that you get at start is sometimes much higher than it really needs, but in some cases you cna get a bad download connection. so if your patchtime looks too high for your connection then you can cancel and restart, sometimes that helps. (and you won't loose anything you downloaded as it continues the last download).

Not sure what version D2D has but this game has been around for a couple of years and there is a lot of patching. If I reinstall from the original discs, the full game and expansions can take over 30 hours on a 2g broadband line.

The first time you launch the client takes longer than subsequent times and the game is more than worth it - trust me.

The SOE patcher is very good for the most part, much better than WoWs. Just sounds like you have a lot of content to download.

it kinda seems liek restarting launcher is helping because it starts off by saying 18 minutes, however it climbs rapidly after it gets to the point where it was stuck before.

It takes alot of time to download the whole client + all the expansions and updates

WoW, doesn't have that much it downloads. Its got patches but it doesn't have what EQ2 has. The patches in EQ2 actually add a heck of alot of content. You're not downloading a few megabytes, you're downloading Gigabytes. The devs have been very very active with EQ2, and are always on the ball. For example, just a few weeks ago, they gave us all a FREE expansion for Neriak.

i just got the trial and im planning to get the game with all exp included. just the trial took at least 10 hours at most (dont remember the exact time) i hope it doesnt take too long with the exp added. it IS a great game tho. well worth the wait

The "time left" is often exaggerated, and like someone else said, disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes adjusts that time radically.  It's still going to take a few hours though.  There is a lot of content.  It probably has something to do with the way the timer calculates the various download queues.

I've always had trouble with SOEs patcher ever since I moved to Hawaii, must be a Road Runner issue. I'll be downloading just fine and then the patcher craps out my ISP, happens at random points during the downloads. The same issue happened with Vanguard for me.

On a side note the game is worth waiting the time for lol, this is a re-install of EQ2 since I'm going back after my short break to recharge.

I signed up for the 7 days trial and the only way to start the patching is by signing up and signing in. I am afraid that the patching is going to take longer than 7 days... So I won't even get a chance to play.
