To war? no. Definitely not. They said they were going to lose alot to lotro...nope. I agree raven, WoW isn't going anywhere. Atleast not any time soon. Sooner or later WoW is going to fade, but that's just how games go. Not that it won't be good anymore, but it's because technology has succeeded the era. People still play the atari. WoW, right now, as of any valid internet source, is the top mmo game. Even wikepedia says so.
Guild wars from what I've heard sucks. My friend bought the damn 40.00 game and quit playing it in a week. This was the same guy who is addicted to adventure quest. Some games people make to complicated. The kind of games you have to read the fricken 15 page long players guide to be able to jump.
WoW is a great game. I've been playing since october of last year and it's fantastic. Easy to catch on to, but get's more complicated as you get higher up and have had the time to get used to the easier stuff. If you say WoW is to easy, you must not have gotten into level 70 PvP. They have plenty of instances and quests to keep you busy. There's almost always something to do even if you can't gain any more levels. Not to mention blizzard kicks ass when it comes to keeping games fresh. I think my brother has beaten warcraft 2 about a billion times and still loves the thing.
World of Warcraft has made gaming history already. I'm looking foward to the continuous feeble attempts to conquer my beloved WoW.
Let's just say that WoW will be around for a long long time before it is driven out of business by another MMO. I mean, with over 8 million subscribers, you would have to make one hell of a game to steal most of the customers and eventually wipe out the WoW community. The only possible way of threatening WoW's numbers is to make a game that has the same feel as WoW, but with new and better improvements to the gameplay, and alot more emphasis on PvP. Oh wait... Warhammer! Woot! Thank God for you.
So you see, this is why many people will leave WoW for games like Warhammer, and of course AoC or Aion etc. More PvP + innovative ideas + WoW feel = WoW killer. I wonder who will take the icing on the cake.
WoW eh? Well I've heard of many "WoW-killers" Vanguard was one.. Oh what? You want your game to crash while playing your MMO? Yeah Vanguard must be a horrid game.. oh sorry .. "WoW-killer" And Guild wars.. That's hard to call an MMO for me.. because there isn't a real economy in the game right? I mean obviously it is an MMO yet something just doesn't appeal to only being able to play with limited people in one instance.
Now onto the positive.
Age of Conan is looking great, and quite possibly a "WoW-killer". Although Warhammer looks like a WoW-clone not too much a killer. Similar cartoonish graphics, and familiar combat. I think if any "WoW-killers" come out, it wont completely kill WoW until the full extent of DirectX10 is in effect on the MMO's. The new generation is on it's way gentlemen. So be patient. WoW has still awhile to live. (And yes. WoW is starting to bore me aswell)
In my opinion, at least, the reason that WoW has done so well is not because anything in it is exceptional, but because it doesn't have many major flaws. As others have said, it runs well on most computers, caters to both casual and hardcore gamers, and has decent PvP and PvE. If AoC and/or WAR do these things as well as, or better than WoW, then yes, WoW will lose a lot of subscriptions. However, if they, like VG, have some major flaw, such as VG's stability, WoW will remain on it's throne. As VG proved, there is really no way to tell, until the games are launched, how well they will do.
I find it amusing that people think that warhammer isnt popular and the fanbase isnt numbering in the millions already. This will be a serious threat... im not saying it will destroy wow... i dont think it deserves to be obliterated. Being a warhammer fan i just ask my self one very important question since i love the oceans and oceans of lore so much....
Is it warhammer?....
no?
Sorry I'm not interested.
Also Asians and PvP mix very nicely, so if blizzard cant out pvp war... i can see approximately 2million leaving wow in the east. And like a previous poster said... the last few patches have advertised alot of pvp changes and updates... this however has nothing to do with the pvp heavy war does it?... seriously i dont know, but i wouldnt be suprised if there was a connection.
I find it amusing the way so many people think Warhammer is the game to end WoW once and for all. Personally, I’d have said the only game that had a chance was LoTR. Not because it’s a great game (it isn't) but because it’s LoTR. It’s the game based on the most popular novel of the 20th century, perhaps the most successful fantasy novel of all time, that has spawned three uber successful films and will probably still be a major talking point when we’re all dead and buried.
Did it win out over WoW? No, it didn’t. From what I gather, it hasn’t even come close. In every computer shop I go in, WoW and the expansion are high in the top ten charts. You have to look far and wide to even see LoTR in there at all despite its recent release.
So if LoTR, based on the most popular and influential fantasy novel of the 20th century, with an audience numbering in the ten of millions, couldn’t beat WoW, why do people think Warhammer has a chance?
Because the majority fanbase for lord of the rings is 40+ and they do not already play table top games like the warhammer fans... thats why. Yes LoTR was/is a popular series of books that had offspring like Dungeons and dragons lore that then brought the fantasy to life (as close as possible) the fact is that most lord of the rings fans are readers... they are not gamers... the vast majority of warhammer and Dungeons and dragons fan base are gamers... thats the difference my friend.
Does it really matter if WoW will be affected or not? I mean come on, everyone has their own little nitch on how to play a game or why they play a certain game. Each game that comes out appeals to a certain genre, and those it appeals to are those that are going to play it. It is almost certain that people have become bored with WoW, and quite honestly I have gotten bored with several of the MMORPG's I have played in the past mostly becuase of the same old content day after day.
I am anxiously looking forward to playing WAR, and will me playing WAR affect WoW. Nope, seeing as how I WoW could never hold my interest for very long. Everyone will play what they want to play when they want to play it. Some people will even get bored with WAR eventually and may migrate back to WoW for a time.
In my opinion, WOW will not loose to many people, and the point all of this we dont have all the information to make a good desition yet, i mean, WOW its here, and War Hammer its a Beta, LTRO its a good game (just that), and the others games well....they are good but not enoght to take down WOW, so, i think we need to wait like 1 or 2 years to see what happend with War hammer online, Rome, Age of Conan etc....Just play and take good fun from ANY game.

So the fight scenes and the special effects in LoTR were for the benefit of the 40+ crowd then? Well, if you like

Well considering Blizzard copied From gamesworkshop [the creators of Warhammer. Id say that War has a chance of being quite successfull.
