Ok, I know this seems really weird considering how long its been out, but I'm totally serious.
Ok, everyone around here knows that recently, my mom passed. If you don't, see my thread, www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/136981/page/1 Well, since then, money has been tight. Like, I'm pretty much broke until friday, tight.
I've had my PS2 for ages, along with 6 PS2 games, 2 PS1 games, and 3 DVD's I'm willing to trade in to make a dent in the price of a 360. I'd like to just get the 360, and Oblivion. Maybe Gears of War.
Like I said before, money is a factor, and I don't know whether or not I should even think about doing this, or just pawn off everything and use the money on a new camera or scanner or something. What do you think, mmo?

Well, I would give yourself a break and some time.
I would give yourself two weeks, think about it, then make a decision what to spend it on. You said you were "broke," so I would not spend any money right now.

I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.
What do you have for a TV? If it's a garbage TV then don't bother, since it will look only as good as your TV can handle.

I don't have a HD-TV, but it just enhances the graphics on the TV. Graphics will still look pretty damn good with a basic TV.

I bought one,
Gears of War is probable one of the best games for next gen out their, and mind you DMC4, the new MGS, and many other historically fantastic games are coming to it soon.
but wait till you have enough money for the version with the 20 gig hard drive, because if you ever become involved in Xbox live which is worth it due to a significant amount of free content, you will want the hard drive, and the economics of it work out so the external is more or the same price.
But since you cant store movies on the hard drive the 120 gig version will never be worth it in my eyes, and now way for that price.
But 360 has the best games overall at the moment.
And mind you i have a Wii also, which zelda aside has craptastic games, and a lot of novelty games in the line of mario party feeling, At the moment.

Standard def TV's do just fine with a 360. I'd reccomend it because it has so many games out right now, and a really good lineup for early fall. Mass Effect, Two Worlds, Too Human, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, you can't go wrong with those. Add that to Oblivion, GRAW 1/2, Splinter Cell, R6, GoW (noobsauce), backwards compatability, and all of the other good games out now, it's hard to say that a 360 is a bad choice.
Don't let people get you with hardware issues either, they've fixed that so if you get a new one, you're golden.
I'm in the same situation. We've held off because, to be honest, we still have plenty of PS2 games, some we haven't even opened, XBox games, computer games... and I also try not to get things right when they're launched. Usually after the first batch or two, they work out most of the kinks. Plus I like to wait until there's a nice catalog of games to choose from. It's been a while now, though, and there are really quite of few games I'd like to play. My husband has mentioned several games he's give a go on the 360, too, such as Bioshock and I'd like to play Two Worlds. Both, among others, look as if they'd be superiour on a console.
Oh... Cooktasico mentioned the one I was trying to come up with by couldn't due to not enough coffee yet... Mass Effect! There's a bunch of good titles out and a lot coming up. (and I have a un-birthday this month! )
Just wait.
The 360 is great but it kind of sounds like you just want something new in your life at the moment and you may end up regretting getting a $300-$479 piece of hardware and whatever else you get with it at the time. Just save up your money for a month or so and at the end of the month if you still want it then you don't have to pawn anything off. If you don't want it at the end of the month then you can take that money and spend it on whatever else you want and come and thank me.
But seriously, I'd suggest waiting.

A good rule of thumb is to wait for the first price drop. This usually happens around the second year after launch. By this time you can actually compare the consoles library to its competition, be sure that all the production problems have been ironed so you that you won't buy a defective model, and save a few more dollars than the idiots that paid full price on launch day.
I would also recommend that you buy the 360 core system and buy the HD later unless you absolutely have to be on XBox Live right. this. minute. In that case, buy the premium and don't waste your money on the Elite.
Seriously though, there's no rush. The price will come down and the games will still be there. Remember, todays $500 cutting edge console is tomorrows $50 ebay auction.
