People keep requesting a classic EQ 1 and Shards of Dalaya provides that but better, with more content, modifications, etc.

If you go on Live servers, it is sad to see how empty the older zones are.  Well, the servers are all empty.  I think they are planning to kill EQ 1, actually, with a final and last expansion.  It is nice on the private server to see old zones filled with people running about and doing things and able to reroll a new toon and experience the old, better, and fun EQ.

Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City.

That's true I forgot about sense heading. I remember clicking on it trying to max it out in between fights while medding. If I remember correctly you had to be standing to use it, so I would stand up briefly, clicky sense heading, sit back down again to med. If you truly got lost, you could always use sense heading, which was basically a north compass, to find your way. The more I talk about classic EQ1, the more I miss it.

Yeah I was clicking it all the time.  I used to lose my direction in the Karana's and also lesser/greater fay at times.

I posted about this in another thread. I agree with the OP and on the point of it being the "first MMOG" as another poster mentioned, I felt all this about EQ and it was not my first MMOG. I beta'd and played The Realm as my first MMOG experience. I guess EQ would be my first "true 3D" MMOG experience. I still have yet to experience the feeling of fear in any game as I did in EQ.

many wonderful advances have been made.  I'm not a hater and can honestly say I loved WoW till I got bored with it.  It was a fresh new concept on MMO games, but now all the others clone WoW's mechanics which I'm bored with.

I don't want all of the bad features of EQ back, there were plenty!  But what I really want is NO FREAKING MAPS, so you have to actually explore and can get lost... and a death penalty that makes you truly fear losing your way or delving too deep!

Yes, maps will be available in print and online, but there is no cursor showing where you are and which way you are facing.  Giving players a compass would be very generous in my book, perhaps we'll just give them sense heading which they have to level up and only works sometimes.

I want a very slow leveling curve, tons of dungeons and hunting areas to explore, NPC's that attack you based on your race or alignment.  I want evil characters to be slain by guards in good cities, even if they belong to the same race!

Yes, that is what I am looking for so I agree. To me, the newest MMOGs are just dumbing down to appeal to a broader player base. I can't say I blame them as they need to make their money, but it would nice to have a niche game for people that want it more difficult, adventurous, thrilling, and fearsome.
