Why make it so hard to play?

ToadyToady Member Posts: 24

I tried the beta, and I thought it was really hard to get into. I just couldn't figure out what to do. Since the game was so confuseing I thought to myself "this game sux bigtime". Then later on when I figured this out, (and after many minutes of anger) I thought, well this wasn't that hard, but why the hell do I haveto level up when everything is equally hard to kill and the new abilities I get is even worse than the ones I had before... So anyway personaly I think that this game won't make it to the top, not even close to the top.

If they had just made it a little bit easier to figure out how to do things, it may have made it.

What do you think?

Yes, SoR does have a learning curve, but it is nowhere near as hard to lean to play as it was when it was released in April. There weren't any tutorial missions at all. That and eveybody, except those in closed beta, had to learn to play SoR with just a very vague online manual to go by.

Hopefully, Nevrax will add even more additional tutorials in later updates. It would be nice to have an npc walk you thru a turtorial first wouldn't it?::::28::

Yes it really would be great to have some sort of tutorial, that is better than it was when I tried it. They asked me to open something, without showing where it was, nor how to open it. So I left. But yea hopefully it is easier now.

The problem was not though to learn how to play, but a little bit more like why to play, and how to become better. I never got how to sell stuff, nor how to buy stuff and then use them. That was why I gave up that game in the first place. Because it was wierd, and hard to learn.

Yeah. SoR is a little different. Until you get off the newbie islands and onto the mainland, its unclear what the crafting and harvesting are trully for. SoR is set up so that the pcs instead of npcs fill more of a roll in the economy when it comes to selling armor, weapons, jewelery, clothing and such. Their was a guild of crafters in Pyr when I went to the mainland that kind of had a price war going on with another guild of crafters on ranged weapons and ammo.::::06::

I don't think, unfortunately, any of us who have played SoR will be able to see the purpose behind the set up of the game play until the final release. In the final release, the history and story will become an important part of game play as you quest to find knowledge about what happened to the peoples os Atys. Also, group play and guild play is emphasized over soloing. Guilds defending their respective people's settlements and cities from hordes of kittins and the large battles will be focal points as well.

Hopefully, Nevrax will decide to add in some of this before final release. I believe they will even more players if they don't who get bored with just running around killing mobs and crafting for players just to be crafting.

It aint THAT hard to learn.

The only thing I got problems with is the fightning system! how to use skillz n' all.
I got this "starter quest" to kill a monster, ha ha it freaking owns me each "#¤%"¤ time I encounter it, how great is that?
I have no money to buy items, it wont seem to use any skillz? What I've found out so far is that I push the passive ones (shield, defense) so they are active? and I target a monster and push the none passive so it seems that it uses it on attack?

But still, I can't kill that shitty monster! I even chose 3x fighter to start with this is laughable! or am I doing something TERRIBLE WRONG??

    EDIT:

Alright I gave it another change and I must say I'm glad I did. This is an awesome game! far better than <-- new games I've tryed so far --> Lineag2, Horizons and cronous.
Get in a group with 1-3 - what I prefer - and start kiling those bastards, and soon you can take care of yourself with ease.

As goes for the UI n' all it seems a bit overwhelming to begin with, but it's actually pretty simple.

Give it a shot, you probably won't regret it.

One more thing: I haven't had any lag/crash trouble in the 6hours play.

Nope, you're not doing anything wrong. There is a big jump from those little fury things to the gingos. Even an izam is tough early on when your all by yourself. Forget a kipee or goari if your not in a group if your not at least level 25/50 fighter. Lower level mages can take one on though. Whats up with that?

I started a new character to try out the tutorial missions. Lol. The second one was go kill a gingo. I got owned.::::15::::::07:: I thought they had tweaked the gingo down, but no.

Solo your toast in SoR until your high level, and even then your gonna have trouble with critters at your level. It's best to join a group or guild. I got to level 20 fighter, level 14 magic, level 19 defense in about 2 hours just grouping up with 2 people and going after Izams and gingos after lvl 5 fighter skill was reached.

Ryzom really designed to play in a group and guild. Btw, I only go for the extra damage and to hit skills as a character who will be a melee fighter.

that sounds crazy to me. your basicly required to group at the start? i really like to figure out a game and get a grasp of it before i start to group, and isnt it hard to meet pepole as soon as you log on?

i did get in beta for this but it was a good while ago, i installed the cd they sent me, couldnt find a monster for about an hour, and unistalled it. figured to never look at it again, but after reading a few things here, maybe i judged too fast, ill give it a fair shot.
