I'm thinking of putting WoW down and picking this up but I gotta ask which class is needed the most? In WoW, as many of you know, you see plenty of groups looking for a healer or a tank. I enjoy those classes but want to know which is most needed?

Well I left WoW as a tank and came to LOTRO as a tank. From what I can see every group needs a tank but Healing seems to be spread out. I would encourage you to jump in this game and try a few different classes to see what you like. But dont get discourage at first , because from what I have seen some classes kinda struggle in the begining but once they hit a lvl its a whole knew ball game.
Its pretty spread out. I havent really seen much calling for specific classes.
Tanks and Healers are generally asked for but i mean, thats because those are the foundation of any group. Every class does its own and is equally as manditory, or at least each proides very useful benefits. I suppose I see a lot of Champions and Hunters though. i play Captain, fun and unique class, very odd, haha. Heralds and all are new to me. So are post kill buffs, those are neat.
Anyway, come play for sure, its a great time no doubt. Lots of cool things to do and lots of grouping and hard areas to conquer. I haven't tried Monster Play yet but I hear its a blast.

Current Game: Panzar
I'm installing the game right now...I'll have to try em all out. I have two weeks to do it before Best Buy won't give me my money back (lol) and a month if I wanna play to the end of the free period. Thanks for the input!
actully ive been playing since the beta and the least used class i have seen is the Burgler, im not sure if its the most needed but i know in my fellowships i would need a burgler
Burglars, Lore-Masters, Captains are the least played in that order.
but just because they are the least played doesnt necassarily mean they are the most needed. im gonna still have to go with the burgler becuase of their dps, and their ability for fellowships to perform group attacks more often
Most needed is minstrel and a tank coz you can't do anything without a minstrel esp at high level instance dungeons. But of course there's always someone that says they've done "so and so" dungeons without any minstrel but that's the exception rather than the common practice.
Hopefully this doesn't come across sounding like a cop-out, but having played the game since beta as well, I can honestly say that I see a need for every single class in a well rounded group.
Guardian = traditional heavy tank, low DPS
Champion = high damage melee tank , high DPS, especially AoE DPS
Captain = hybrid tank/buffer/healer (like a paladin in many MMOs)
Minstrel = healer
Hunter = ranged DPS, sort of like a "nuker", also some nice utility spells
Loremaster = crowd control and pets
Burglar = debuffer and can trigger devastating "fellowship maneuvers", which are very important in boss fights
So... no matter which class you pick, there will be a need. What most peple in the early game don't appreciate is the need for crowd control and those fellowship maneuvers, so in my experience it will be harder finding groups as a loremaster and burglar early on. But once you start getting into the mid-game content (level 20+ or so) the need for those classes becomes more and more evident.
The most popular classes today are without question the champion and hunter, as so many people take pleasure in pumping out huge amounts of raw DPS. Personally I feel that the champion is a bit overpowered at the moment, but I won't go there...
That having been said, If you're looking for a safe class to play that everybody always seems to need, of course its going to be a tank (guardian) or healer (minstrel).
In Wow Terms:
Guardian = Protection warrior
Champion = Fury warriors on crack.
Captain = Paladin with a pet (manservant)
Minstrel = EQ cleric rather than WoW priest. You wear leather and can carry a shield with the right trait and your weapon isn't just for decoration.
Hunter = Pretty much like WoW Hunters minus the pet, you can set traps, do hardcore range DPS.
Loremaster = Much like EQ enchanter, you have an animal pet, can do some magic attacks but your biggest strength is to do AOE crowd control which will be required in high level dungeons eps if your fellowship gets attack by hordes of mobs.
Burglar = Burglar isn't the same as WoW rogues, they're more like debuffers than straight up DPS... their greatest strength is to start fellowship maneuvers for those group combos and stack debuff on mobs. They can do decent melee damage but not as great as a champion. They can sneak to scout ahead too.
There are only 5 true wizards in middle earth according to Tolkien (Gandalf the Grey, Radagast the Brown, Saruman, maybe Tom Bombadil, and the 2.. Allatar and Pallando who are lesser known) so you can't really play one, a loremaster is as close as a wizard/mage as you can be ... i think they resemble spiritualist (using nature magic) more than a true mage that uses true arcane magic.
Yeah a well rounded party is composed of each of the classes as it will be needed to conquer some of the harder instanced dungeons.
I think the loremaster class came from Elrond's description in The Hobbit.
mmmm yeeeah, thats greeat, a little to the left would be greeeat, ::sips coffee mug:::
