This game just doesn't work

ToadyToady Member Posts: 24

First of all you need to be at least within the same borders as the server to be able to play it without haveing the problem of not seeing other players. Second of all you need at least 10MBit to be able to shot at the others and hit!

This game is totally over-rated and should be banned for all of eternity because of it's ignorance against bad-connection people. Anyway it's good if you have those things.

Yeah thats what you thought! No way. The game is so unbalanced. The best thing you can do is to play with the original set until you gain one point. Then you choose the multi-tank guy and you are thereby invincible. Or you choose the bad guy style with the invisible thing. The problem is that the area of effect weapons doesn't work at all. You can stad there and shot 100 granades on one spot where an enemy stands and you can't even hurt him sometimes.

you obviously have a crappy computer and connection. i never have that problem. my cable is slow (compared to my dad's for some odd reason...same modem...) and a moderate computer, still below their minimum requirements.

it's...scary. very, very, very, scary...the world we live in...that's why i love the virtual world.

Well yah see, 56k modems came out in 1994 or 1995 so there around 10 years old now.  PC game developers dont really like to use the old tech, in fact they seem to like the newest stuff going and it shows.

How would you even know if this game is overated, it dossent work on your PC.  This game is very balanced and i find it to be fun and exciting.

As so far in as your advice to choose the default loadout to get 1 point, just go to the training center and try all the stuff, and your will be BR 3 with many points.   Tanks are aslo very far from invincible, they die fast to... Revers, other tanks, missles, mines, turrets, ect.

If you shoot 'nades at one spot where the nme stands and it wont hurt him its because your lag is so bad either hes not there anymore or hes already killed you and your just shooting before your connection tells you that your dead.

Nope a 1 gig duron with 128 meg ram and 32meg vid wont cut it.

You should have amd 2500+, 1 gig ram (duel ddr), 128 vid, win xp,  512kbs cable for it to be fun with nice grafx and little lag in big battles.

Im upgrading now to AMD 64 3200+ 1024 l2 cach fsb 1600mhz,  1.0 gig single ch ddr 400, and radion 9600 pro 256 just to pump it up some more.  Im aslo going to overclock with the asus V8k mobo to get 2200mhz and liquid cool.

    I love this game image

I play on a 256K connection from New Zealand with no problems. I even userd to play on 56k and although i couldn't participate in the biggest battles, it was still fun in the small-medium sized ones.

    My specs are
    512MB dual channel RAM
    AthlonXP 2400+
    GeforceFX 5600

That's not an uber setup and I can play it fine.

yeah thats setup should play the game fine.  Its almost the setup that i recomended with about 50mhz slower cpu clock and 1/2 the ram.  512 modem isint really req. cuz it wont come close to using the bandwidth. But if you want to run 2 pc's its pretty much required at 10/100 (in my world).

I even played this game on a 1ghz p3, ti200 64meg vid, 256meg sdram 133x and 512 modem, when PS was released.  I know the lag.  Difference is i didnt blame the game producers for it.

Im upgrading to the athlon 64 for 1 reason, i want the 101+ FPS.  I guy i know has a screen shot of getting 185 fps at 1024x768, and i want that soo bad.

    bye, bye

Planetside is awesome.  Run it on a 512k cable connection, no problems at all.  Its all about RAM in this game.  2GB here, hit task manager, and Planetside is using 830MB of my RAM at any given time.  With my ATI 9800 PRO Im nailing 92 frames per second at 1280x1024.

Planetside is a nice game for a while, but paying monthy for it kinda sucks. I know they "need to charge a fee monthy" to keep it running and keep updating it, but for what it is, I just cant see paying what they charge. It need to be around the $5 mark to appeal to me. The game gets old after a while if you join one of the bigger outfits. You just seem to fight over the same bases over and over and it kinda gets boring imho. Once you get past BR15 you really have some options in where you spend your credits and you can play with some variety.

The main problem I have with planetside is REWARD for effort spent. You can tear ass all day long and capture the whole game world, and head to bed. Log back on the next day and it will all be erased. There needs to be some long term benefits to holding areas and also some balances to keep one of the factions from getting out of control. I'll admit it's a really hard thing to balance, but life isnt fair either, so why try to force competitive games to be fair? They should just let the game "Get out of control" and then makes the losing side(s) weapons and armor better temporarily until the balancve of power shifts. They kinda try to do this with the balance of experience and hit points based on player populations, but I did not see where this did much for the short term balancing.

And about game performance, I have a P4 3.00ghz OC'd to 3.3ghz along with 2GB of 400DDR(dual channel) OC'd to 440. Pair that with two WD360's (Raptor 10k rpm drives) in Raid 0. The video card I have is an evga fx5900 ultra also OC'd. Needless to say, Planetside runs great on my machine at 1280x1024 and this made game play quite easy. I used to play on a slower machine (1ghz p3 with 512 ram, ti4200) and it made playing PS very difficult when it was in beta/release. I have a cable connection so it was the computer speed that cased the shitty gameplay. With my new computer the gameplay waqs good, but got old fast. I dont mean to brag about my comp, I just wanted to show that my opinion of the game wasnt because it ran shitty on my machine.
