I played this game for some time (20war/10mnk) had to quit because I fell in love with CoH. The only reason I quit was because I couldn't afford both games. Well...I still love CoH, but am having withdraw from FFXI.
Any game that can do this to me is something of importance. And all the griefers...half you haven't played the game, and the other half didn't get the point(or didn't make it past level 10 before saying "this game sucks"). FFXI is the first MMORPG from the Final Fantasy series (which yea, I am a fanboy of) which means it's made by people who haven't tested the MMORPG waters yet. They pulled it off with a hell of a bang though, and the game is something I still enjoy in my thoughts.
If WoW tanks. I'll definately be playing FFXI again.

It would have been 10 times better if they didnt have pansy ass looking characters, bad controls, lack of customization etc. They should have looked at what made other fantasy MMORPG's great and at least tried to duplicate some of those things. What a waste.

I agree that what they did with the game was really impressive for a first MMORPG, and I mean REALLY impressive. It shot up in popularity after release from a company that has made less multiplayer games than you can count on one hand. They brought us everything we love about FF in a nice MMO.
Then again there are some people that refuse to accept it as a good game even though they didnt like it. Dont let Ramadin get to you he just has alot of anger.
Pansy ass looking characters, and lack of customization, um, who cares? I don't mind if my character looks like 95% of the other players...as long as I get to enjoy a game. (edit: Galka's didn't look pansy)
Bad controls. First of all, if you played with the keyboard (which I did for weeks) it's not too bad. Second of all, is it going to kill you to buy a gamepad which the game supports? X-box controllers are $15 or something, and there are online guides on how to rewire them to become USB. So don't even let me hear that. You might just have to make a bit of a commitment to something, in this case a game. OH NOESSSS!

I played to FFXI for a few months. Had a very high lvl Black mage/white mage (Tarutaru) on Ifrit server with almost all his epic gear. I mainly quit cuz you CAN'T solo unless you are one of those boring Beastmasters or a summoner wich could take 3 friggin years just to get all your summons (SO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!) And the second reason was because all the monsters look the same. They just change the colors, names and make them hit harder.
One thing i have to add tho. The custumer service is so GREAT compared to SOE that i was kind of sad to leave. + The community on FFXI is just great. The japanese ppl are very kind. They helped me alot, even if i could not speak jap.
Don't get me wrong,... it was fun... for a while. Maybe the upcoming expension will make it funnier?

Sorry but a game where you look like everyone else and you really make no difference or impact in the games world has no appeal to me. Why play at all if it makes no difference if your there or not, some other clone will just take your spot, to me thats not fun. I guess thats why EQ was fun, I was known as one of the best chanters on the server, I constantly had tells to group. I didnt look like anyone else, people could always tell who I was even before they saw my tag.
As for buying a controller, that should be listed in the recommended section of system req's. No one wants to waste 50 bucks on a lame game just to have to spend 15 more to even play it.

First of all, you can't judge a game you've never played. A controller shouldn't be listed as "recommended". If you can't play with the keyboard then you're plain lazy.
If you're playing a game that lacks customization, who cares? There's no point to looking like said character. "I have a green robe and a black tunic - I obviously stand out and everyone knows me on the server" "I have on the exact same ensamble as you and I'm just as known". These are very true.
It's not by what you look like, it's by how well you play/give to the community. I could give 2 shits about how well known you were because people knew what you looked like in EQ. If you were good then you were good, it doesn't matter what you look like. Your looks aren't making you any better (unless it's clothing/armor that's adding an effect).

I said "recommended" not "required". You can play with a keyboard but its very time consuming and clunky to scroll through menu after menu after submenu just to find what you want. Read any FFXI review and you will see what Im talking about so dont say I havent even played it. Has nothing to do with being lazy, its called being user friendly.
Now, I didnt say I was well known due to my apparel, I said I was one of the best chanters on the server and it was easy to pick me out of a crowd due to my apparel. The whole appeal of MMORPGs is to be a hero, conquerer of beasts, master crafter, whatever you choose. A hero doesnt look like every other joe shmo common citizen. Its called "risk vs. reward" you should be able to get cool items by risking your "life". In FFXI theres too much risk and very little rewards. Im just saying the option to outfit your hero how you want should be there. In FFXI its not. Thats a fact not an opinion.

I bought this game yesterday and played it for 4 hours and you want to know what I think. This is the worst MMOG every created. Controls suck so bad that its not even worth discussing. The graphics im sorry to say suck they look like crap. The camera movement is enough to make you sick. I got so motion sickness from the damn camera that I almost had to go throw up. Lets just say I would give this game to my worst enemy. Hell I took the game and Put in a metal trash and burned it. My 3 year old daughter could make a Better MMOG.
If your think about buying this game dont you will kick your self in the ass over and over at having bought it. ITs not worth the money.
Thats just my opion any way.

I like the game. I play as much as I can. I don't mind looking like other ppl in the game. I don't look at myself as a hero (which was one reason given for not wanting to look like others) but as an adventure as the npcs call me. The game has a few heroes that are pretty much legends. PCs are not these legends. You can become famous though. I like the creatures being families of creatures. It sort of makes for some real fun to me. I expect things to get better as they go. I don't expect drastic changes but I do think there will be game changes.
I love playing on my PS2 and using my controller. I don't think that the game controls are bad. I am not saying they are not bad just that they don't bother me. I don't blame anyone for not liking this game. If a game appealed to everyone then there would be no need to make others. If the ones not liking this game do have one they are playing and enjoying, I am happy for them.
FFXI is fun for me. I do have problems with it but that is with any game. I would love to know where ppl are getting all their magic items and such. I know things are tougher for me since I am shy and don't know anyone playing. I don't blame FFXI for that.

I was a lvl 23 hume warrior. But I could tell it was a bad game at lvl 1. I just hoped something would come along to outweigh all the flaws.

Trust me I am not fanboi and if i am then i guess ia m for several ga,mes becasue I am waiting for EQ 2 and I am waiting for WoW jsut at the moment WoW is really appealing ot me you know???
I mena I am sure EQ 2 will eb good but till i get a new and better comp I jsut want WoW well also guild wars.....I mean seriosuly if you don't believe I am waiting for alot of gamesI could list them to you lol

Uh ok... I should have quit at lvl 2. After you see the combat system, the controls, the crappy POL login, the lack of char customization, lack of mob types etc its easy to tell that the game is poo. The only reason I would play longer than lvl 23 is to see what other content there is. And sorry, but no amount of content could outweigh all the crap that is FFXI. Why would I play longer than lvl 23 if the game sux at lvl 2? Gee MAYBE the game gets better at lvl 50>? Why? does the char customization, combat system, and controls suddenly change at lvl 50? Unless Im horribly mistaken the answer is NO. Now begone fanboi's.
