Special Occasions

Special occasions to me mean days that have significance that allow you to do things that are nornally strange or unacceptable.

For instance it is really strange or unacceptable to launch/ignite pyrotechnics few days aside from 4th of july

Christmas it is really strange to randomly give gifts to people but give it on the 24th or 25th of december and its acceptable.

Thanksgiving normally gorging yourself is seen as a sign of lack of self control, obesity, and overall sloppiness but on that day its all cool no matter who you are.

Saint Patricks dayu everyone aside from a nun it is ok to get entirely wasted, no matter how little or much you drink, (same applies for Cinco day mayo)

My point is people make special occasions for no other reasons then catharsis, so they can get that stupid, or self destructive urge out of their system and it is suddenly acceptable on that day.

For instance i am allowed to do things on certain holidays i am not normally allowed to do by my girlfriend as long as i am safe about them, and call her and tell her (yes i am whipped but i love it)

My overall point is this why cant we as individuals say On X random day i am going to: get really drunk, randomly give people gifts, Gorge myself, or any other thing that is not nornally acceptable.

And apparently 4th of july is one of those special holidays for me because i am allowed to do things i am normally forbidden from doing.

Huh?  Getting drunk on a weekend night has always seemed perfectly acceptable...no excuse needed.

You making an awful lot of assumptions here. Not all those holidays are gorge and get fucked up fests. Americans do tend to be judgemental and these do seem to be get out of jail free days. If you want to do those things on any other day noone is stopping you but you. Oh but your girlfriend will give you grief, grow a set. Get out of your mom's basement and start your own traditions.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with lighting fireworks on a random day, getting totally wasted on some random day, or any of the other things. It's when they become excess that it's a problem. Who is anyone else to say that you can't have candy canes because you feel like it?

In fact, giving gifts on days that aren't special can mean more than giving them on days that are. Try sending your girlfriend flowers on a day with no other signifigance and watch her get all happy. I do that all the time and it's never let me down yet.

If you're not underage and depending on where you live (I assume you're in the US) you can do all those things.  If you're "forbidden" by law or a loved one, it's still up to you.  You might have to pay the consequences, however.  I don't get wasted on certain days, but then, I don't drink at all, for the most part.  I don't gorge myself on Thanksgiving, even if I go someplace where they celebrate it.  I choose to give my father and my nephews a Christmas present because they enjoy it and it makes me happy to see that.  It's not an exchange with conditions, however.  If it were, I wouldn't do it at all.
