Well, I feel like I'm in deja vu here.  I remember last year about this time I was anticipating Vanguard.  A lot of people were.  Back then you always saw this though "Go play WoW."  People always complaining that this game was ONLY for hardcore players.  This was going to be a hardcore game blah blah.  It honestly got on my nerves.  Well, I feel like we are going through it again, except this time it's the whole maturity thing.

this time it's about Kids.  "If there are any kids in it, I won't play."  "This will have a M rating, no kids at all, unless your a bad parent."  This is getting obnoxious.  There WILL be children in this game.  Hey, I was a kid when I played Ultima Online. . .that was 'M' rated back in the day before it turned 'T.'  The harpies had boobs showing, you could dismember people etc...  I didn't stop from playing it, and neither did anyone else.

What I'm saying here is just hush about the whole children in the game.  There will be kids no matter what and their will be gankers.  The people that get bugged by this type of thing shouldn't be playing MMo's at all.  it's just how it is, any game will have children.

So lets all just move along...nothing to see here.

Ive never been fond of that attitude.

Of course kids will play even if the rating says they should not just like kids play GTA and other titles.  In my opinion the people who make the big complaints about kids are sort of begetting an immaturity not unlike what it is they say they hate. It will happen to just form your own communities of like minded people.

(You cant be ganked if you arent going to play on a PvP server tho so that is not being forced on anyone)

Yeah, neither have I.  It's one thing that bugged me about the whole Vanguard scene.  Now, of course it's not as bad here as it was with vanguard, but I'd rather it not get that bad.  I agree with your comment though that the people that complain about it are immature and close minded.  I'll accept anyone in my game that wants to log in, have some fun, do some PvPing, and kill some things.  Just because your an adult doesn't officially label you 'mature.'  I wish people will just chill a bit about it all and just have some fun in these pre-release stages.

(sorry, about that ganking comment, I was kind of in the mood :) )

It would be great if parents really checked for M rating

    Didnt think of that!

it must be the wisest marketing "scam" ever.

Just put a M on the box, then get a extra million players.

The game WILL stop some under 17 kids/teens from playing, because there are parents who do check the labels, and make sur its age appropriate. Now, I will not start a discussion about whether they hsould be allowed to play or not, but I am just saying that there should be a good number of kids that are not able to play the game due to an M rating, and that is fine by me.

Ive played with some underage people who were polite, and had a good set of manners, but for the most part, its usually a bad experience with them, so I couldn't be happier that the rating WILL stop some of them from playing, even though the rating itself may intice even more to pick up the game.

Also, I have noticed stores asking id more and more for games with these ratings, so if there is no digital download, hopefully that might stop some of them as well.

I bet most of those "kids" are actually adults acting like kids. And a lot of those "kids" if they really are kids are more mature then a lot of adults.

In my experience across every mmo I ever played age has largely been irrelevant, there are just as many middle aged assholes as there are teenagers.

No one can disagree on that statement, but in my personal experience with any online games, the most annoying, and horrible playng experience is usually linked to underage players, even though yes, a lot of adults can be as moronic as some kids/teens.

I agree with you.  But it shouldn't be a problem these days because it is so easy to just ignore someone.  Almost no reason to whine about it, ya know?

and JPR1985. . .does it REALLY ruin your gaming experience?  Or are you just extending the truth?  I highly doubt anything really ruins a gaming experience, unless you maybe spill water onto your computer while playing the game.  Or maybe if it always locks up everytime you try to attack.  Honestly, I don't like people that whine about children ruining their gaming experience.  We were all children at one time and I find that people that always whine about it to be a little bit more annoying and immature than the children.  Not trying to be harsh, but just telling the truth.

Perhaps I phrsed myself wonrgly, I mean some playing experiences, not a total game experience, ie; I find a group, walk a distance to get to them, get everything setup, start doing a quest that could take 20-60 minutes, and half way through, I come to find that one or two of the members keep talking and spamming mics like idiots, or keep spamming the group channel, making near impossible to communicate and strategize wiht eh other party members.

Now I can mute/ignore, but then it makes it that much hard to focus since know (lets say im a healer) i need to pay attention to his life bars more than the others, since he cant tell me when hes poisoned/random effect/etc.

Option B would be to ask the party leader to kick him out, which usually does not go eover so well, especially if they are in the same guild for example.

Sometimes I could create a party myself, make a good group, get to a sweet spot, and come to find that another 2 asshats are being ,well, asshats, thus having to kick them and finding more players, and causing downtime.

Now this scenario is VERY extreme, and sure as hell does not happen very often, but these ARE scenarios that I have come across, and would be happy if a small rating tag on a box would perhaps deminish some of those chances of a bad party.

The only time it really bothers me when a younger person is playing an MMO at the same time as me, is when I get all revved up and start spewing curse words (due to being excited not angry), only to find out there is a ten year old in the group, then I feel like a real douche...

    Otherwise its all good.

I see your point.  Those kind of things can and always will be a problem.  I come from UO too, so I'm not usually used to that kind of thing because we didn't have channels and what not.  When it comes to that though, I guess in a way it could 'ruin' your experience.  That is why I usually group with people I know and luckly I will have my guild in AoC to help me with quests instead of random invites.  I do see your point though.  But man, we are gamers. . .we know this kind of thing is going to happen and we should almost be used to it by now.  No matter what you do in life or where you go in life, real or virtual....there will always be someone or something that is going to be distracting.  Whether it is a person road-raging on the highway, or if it's annoying people taking up the whole lane in a grocery store.  It's better to just not whine about it and let it go.  or do what I like to do.  Just say to yourself.  "Don't let the bastards get you down."
