whatever happened to original IPs?

When did every fantasy/scifi novel/comic/tv mini series/collectiable need an mmorpg? I know people are all really excited about Age of Conan and Warhammer but are you seriously that worked up about a game based on a 20 year old movie and a set of overly complicated Precious Moments figurines? No offense to those hardcore Conan/Warhammer fans out there but come on I can't believe I'm the only person who has NO interest in eather of these franchises. I would much rather see developers create their own stories and environments for us to explore  rather then throw us in a universe that has exsisted (and been dead) for more then a decade.
