10 reasons is a lot if we're not going to include ones like "It's fun!", so here's a handful:
1) It's easy to come back. Accessibility is the name of the game, and unlike other MMOs, getting re-accustomed to the game after a long break is a relatively painless experience.
2) New PvP options; new battlegrounds and arenas, with ladders.
3) Try a different class. Your choice in class can make a huge difference to your experience. I found the Warrior to be boring - I really didn't enjoy it, but the Priest to be one of the best classes I've played in any MMO. Your experience will vary.
4) One day, in say, 20 years time, you might find yourself locked in a drunken stupor with fellow old-school gamers. You'll reminisce over games you once played with misty eyed nostalgia. The topic of WoW will inevitibly come up, and you'll be mocked for only having played for a small period of time. WoW is a classic, enjoy it while it lasts.
5) The 2nd expansion for this game will have a lot of financial backing, TBC shattered sales records, so shareholders are going to be much happier funding another expansion. So level-up a character or two in preparation for it.
6) If you're the argumentitive type, you'll have a field day on MMORPG.com - where the anti-WoW sentiment is callously intertwined with logical fallacy and self-delusion. Mocking WoW haters is fun.
Granted, those aren't great reasons - if I wasn't at work I would think up some better ones. GL.

I don't have time to list 10 reasons so I'll go with the best one of them all:
1-10: it's a lot better than the competition.
i said no. i played a few months after quitting eq2 had several characters in the mid 20's and highest being a 52 hunter. got tired of the same old crap=grinding mobs, grinding dungeons, grinding for materials for crafting, lame pvp raids that had no effect on the game world, lame pvp to get marks to buy stuff with, all in all wasnt any different from eq2 or any other mmo out there right now, if you have to play a game with a well known brand name then play WoW. i ended up cashing in and sent all my money and extra crafting materials to a guildmate then i deleted each character. got my moneys worth and havent looked back.
let's see
10) you can fish rum from the sea and get drunk with it while getting a stamina boost
9) trolls speaks jamaican
8) gnomes are tasty with a pinch of salt and pepper
7) everybody in your neihgborhood is playing or will play in the future
6) everybody in your city is playing or will play in the future
5) everybody in your nation.... yeah, you got the picture
4) it promotes game industry sending out the message "working game = bucks, and loads of them"
3) Guild Drama. there is a web site all about people crying for not getting epixx or ladies getting arrested for sexual harassment of a minor, priceless
2) it is a hell lot more fun than doing nothing
1) Gives you a reason to go around clothed like a carpet with horns, claim you are a Tauren and have people actually laughs at you instead of calling the police, maybe even somebody of your favored sexcual inclination will notice you too.

Very occasionally, I have a desire to go back and get my hunter and look for the best pet out there. Then I remember why I left.
I couldn't stand the cartoon graphics anymore! Just kidding (well mostly).
Real reasons? The community and Blizzard.
I'm not saying there weren't some great folks I met along the way, but it seemed to me that a lot of the players were immature. Maybe that was just bad luck, but I think the same has been said by others so probably not.
Ah Blizzard. Aside from the Burning Crusade money grab (hey let's not do anything really innovative, and while we're at it we'll make the two sides even less different from each other!), I never thought they were serious about dealing with goldseller/powerlevel websites. Whenever I saw an announcement on the website about how many accounts were just shut down, I had to laugh at another token gesture to pacify the players who actually earned their rewards. Blizzard doesn't care about its players as much as they would like you to believe. As long as the money keeps pouring in, they're laughing all the way to the bank.
there isn't 10 reasons he should play wow (IMO) but this post sums it up quite well.
But with that said, now for my answer. The quote above says a few very key points. WoW is just like most other MMO's out there. Or rather they did it right and alot of people copied them *ahem, SWG*
That is true, thing is WoW does it better. What I meen is Its a complete package, and they deliver what they say they will, they have constent support. Game code wise, there are GMs that do help players. and over all just a solid product.
If you want to play a MMO .. in a fantasy setting then you might as well play this. You wont find better out there.
My advice tho is not to get mythical ideas on what WOW is. this is where alot of players find themselves dissapointed.
1) its a game where you do quests for rewards
2) ITS NOT a social game where you sit and visit people or work for a common good.
3) You will NOT find new genre redefining hidden features somehow in game mysterious appear and no one talking about it. its a 3 year old MMO not a new release.
4) THIS IS NOT a cure for a persons problems or boredom, if your a bored person chances are you will be bored in game as well.
5) Like all MMO's this game is what you make of it, silly enough statement but its true, set goals, achive them, laugh along the way and get your $15 worth of "entertainment" out of it.
Remeber this is a game, Its not life or death, its ment and fully intended for people to relax and have fun. this is not a means to make a living buying and selling stuff, Do that on e-bay with collectable cards or something if you want to make real life money.
In the end I put choose for your self, Come play and have fun. Or try a game that looks fun and dont be here and get mad at WOW for being something you "thought " it was, fact is they tell you exactly what wow is, a fantasy RPG game wher eyou do quests, thats what you get.
nothing more nothing less.
Myself, I love the game and guild we have and I think we have a great server in genral. Its all about having fun.

to use the word 'better' is relitive and personal. For example. if you hate the sea, pirates and all that goes with it. Then PotBS will obviously be 'worse' than other games out there.

they actually fixed EVERY single thing you are complaining about..GMs are active and deal with stuff with in 20 min, unless that what you meen by too long?
there is no more GOLD SALE SPAM...Its GONE!!! 100% got rid of them, they added a report feature and afew other mechincs that prevent it from happening, AND they banned over 2000 accounts in less then a 3 day time for it.
they helped stop E-bay from selling gold and characters on the site.
Your post is outdated and overly aggressive, might have been ccorrect a long time ago but now your giving people advice and telling them about stuff that dont exsist.
Id suggest you actually HAVE a opinion as a active player to give a opinion. just cause you played like 2 years ago dont meen nothing changed.

Ouch... Sounds like you have had a bad experiance in wow...
So why is it so drastically different on Kael'thas?
Im not going to complain, But dam... If you have a active account try our server cause none of those thigs exsist...AT all
all gold spamming was halted as of 2.1.1 patch about a month ago. ALL of it.. the only rare occurance is you Might see a lvl 1 orc spatial spamming at orgimmar, But he will last maybe 20 min bvefore enough ppl report him and its not only kicked but then Banned and dont return. They can no longer mas whisper spam ...NOT AT ALL.. they dont spam trade channel and they get /reported which automatically adds you to the ignore list as well as a direct report to GMs.
Im sorry you had such a bad experiance, truely, But Know that not all of teh servers are like that and definatly not the whole game.

Indeed I must say that also on AD euro, the gold spamming has almost totally died off.
i used to get about 2-3 gold seller in game mail a day, plus countless spams in trade channel and the like, all that is GONE. all thanks to the fabolous "report spam" feature that permit you to just click on the name of the spammer and report him in 2 seconds tops.
i suppose the lawsuits against 2 of the biggest gold selling company helped too... and notice, blizzard is the FIRST company to take a risk and go to court with these vampires, so much for doing nothing...
GM's response time has been pretty costant... and btw, 50 minutes is not a long time to wait, not in my experiences with other games anyhow.
all in all, there has been a sensible improvement in these two areas since the expansion.

I petitioned a GM today to report a character with an obscene name. Yes, the GM answered within 20 minutes, just like the last two did when I submitted the same petition. I hope this one does something about it, because the other two didn't.
The players are still dumb. Blizzard can't fix that.
The game is still fun, and I still play it, but let's not pretend the problems don't exist. I'm not overly aggressive, just venting. This could be a great game if Blizzard actually gave a damn about it. Instead, it's simply good.

Well, golly, no! I don't get as much mail from gold sellers now! That's great! I only have to put up with the same dipshit sending invites over and over so he can spam me with gold ads in a group. And all I have to do to ignore him is to type "/ignore Qlkdwegfhs" perfectly, or join his group so I can click on his name to ignore and report him. That gives me a whole five minutes of peace, until the next one comes along. No, it's not the same as it was prior to 2.1.1 - it's worse.
And you're right - a 20 minute reply from a GM is pretty fast. Since most of them don't do anything, it's easy to see how they move so quickly from player to player. Sometimes in other MMORPGs it can take an hour or more to get a GM response, because they're so busy doing their jobs. If only they ignored the issues, they could respond as quickly as the WoW GMs.
Can I say things haven't improved? Yes, I can.
OK well I guess your server sucks... not all servers suck as bad as yours.

10 reasons why not to play ,I can only find 1 reason to play...
1.Comunity is the worst you will find in any MMOG ever and that is not because WoW has a huge population but because 90% of it is composed of out gold famers,immature kids and more importantly immature adults.
2.Boring grind ,takes ages to lvl to 70 (60) if you dont play 24/7,once you have grinded 1 char from side you will get extremly bored if you try to make a new char and lvl it on the same side (horde/alliance).
3.Repetive quests,well most of them.I agree some of the outland quests are cool but the rest are either kill X creatures and/or get Y items from creatures + some running around quest ,talk to steve right behind me and tell him he sucks cause im too lazy to turn around.
4.Worst thing about WoW,gold spammers ... everywhere ,ive being to 10 different servers lvled to 15-25 on all of them and I got a gold sell message every 10 mins and atleast 5 gold spam mails each day.WoW is the cause of ingame curency selling market boom.
5.Grouping is horrible most of the time,im reffering to PUG ,you have a 95% in any PUG to pickup a underage brat,a ninja or a asshole who wants to ruin your instance run/quest.
6.PVP is pointless,yes it may be fun for a little bit but has no point.No loss vs reward : You die,you wait 10 secs,you respawn,you die again etc.You can get some pvp items wich become obsolete after awhile.
7.End game is unpleasent,you have to raid 2-6 hours each day to get a piece of armor or a weapon.
8.Class imbalances ,yeah you are going to say all mmogs have imbalances ,well not realy like WoW,there is always a favoritism for classes.Just remember when warlocks where almost imba and everyone complained for awhile before they got nerfed.
9.Sometimes when someone's server goes down,most of that server's population will all go make alts on a specific server and spam,try to make life hard for those on the server or try to crash the server.
10.Game with the most ebayers running around,on the top of my head here are some of my experiences with ebayers:
- Group to ramparts ,lvl 64 paladin asks our priest for water and starts complaining that he doesnt want to give water and he is a asshole and starts bragging how he has a lvl 70 priest and he can make water ...
- Group to scholomance ,warrior asks the group how does he equip shield and how does he add spells to hotbar (no he wasnt joking)
etc... Imo stay away from WoW if you are intelligent and want to keep it that way ... or go back if you have a kiddie free guild you can join (that some of your friends are in)

Just go back and play the game. If it draws you in again good if not then just move on.
As for the guy who just keeps spouting that everyone who plays WoW is dumb, well I personally find that people who make broad generalizations like that are themselves somewhat lacking in the intelligence department!

So, I tried Kael'Thas. I had to see what magic powers this server had that kept the spammers and retards at bay, and made it so different from all the others. I made an Orc Hunter. I tagged the Random buttons a few times until I got a decent name and look.
I entered the Valey of Trials and did a quick /who 1-70. I saw two blatant violations of the naming policy. Neither was obscene, though one was on a level 48 character. I filed a petition to test the GM effectiveness, and headed for Orgrimmar. On the way there, I got an invite from a name that was complete gibberish. I declined, and a few seconds later got an invite from the same person. I accepted - it was a spambot advertising gold for sale. I ignored him, reported the spam, and left the group.
The GM was quick - he responded about the same time I arrived in Orgrimmar. By the time he answered, I added two more name violations to the petition - a level 30 and a level 32. That's a much higher frequency than I see on my servers, but we get somewhat more intelligent players on the roleplaying servers. I added the names to my friends list so I could check back later, but I don't see why the GMs would be any more effective when dealing with this server.
General Chat was slightly worse than I'm used to, with a bit more "omg ur so gay" and "hord sux lol." There wasn't a spammer standing in front of the bank advertising gold for sale, but that's hit and miss - I played for less than 30 minutes, and some days I can go hours without seeing one.
No, you don't have magic GMs. No, you don't have a magic anti-spam shield on the server. Kael'Thas is no different from any other server. Nice try, though. You were convincing enough to get me to make a character to see if the stories were true. Unfortunately, they weren't.
