Thinking of returning...

ylanoisylanois Member UncommonPosts: 10

I played Wow for a while and decided to take a break about 3-4 months ago. Now I'm thinking about getting a sub for it again, I had some really fun times in there. My question is: Is it worth getting back in there. I keep reading posts about how the game is dying because of LOTRO and people getting bored of end game raids and the such. Is the population suffering that much? I'd really appreciate your imput on this.

Its a tough question to answer, for myself I have found that everytime I get back into the game I get bored very quickly because I can't really run raids or any of the end game to due to family commitments. It depends at what level your chars are also, i only play 2 and they are both 70 so apart from questing I find there is nothing to entertain me. I did do some PVPing for a while but I only really enjoy AV and as thats so biased against horde it sadly looses its fun too quickly.

Buy a game card, its only $40ish, whats that - a few beers etc down the pub on a Friday night ... not much to loose!

I'd treat stories of WoW dying because or LOTR with a pinch of salt. At the last count, WoW had 8.5 million subscribers. LOTR? Well... no idea, but I'd be surprised if its total subscriber base was a fifth of that figure.

    and LOTRO? mmmh.... 9th!

Nope, I higly doubt wow is gonna die because of Lotro.

I too recently came back to the game.  I've been having fun. I personally think Burning Crusade fixed everything people complained about.  Arena's are a blast for me and if your a non-raider you'll have plenty of stuff to do.

Depends what you thought of WOW before.  TBC brought a whole bunch of more of the same.  Great if you like what the game was, not so good if you were hoping for something different.  Big negative impact on high end raiding guilds, but overall,  but I guess you could say TBC made raiding more accessable to more players.  (like that's a good thing)

Some folks love it...some hate it.... give it try again and see what you think.....

Me, i left 7 months ago.... still no regrets.....

I dont believe that WoW is dying or because of LotR for that matter. My account is still active with WoW and even though I dont play it anymore I have another month left on my subscription and there is always people online, and lots of them. If anything WoW will suffer more when AoC and WAR come out, I doubt LotR effected WoW that much but it wont die.

I don't know what level you were when you left WoW but if you were having fun with it I suggest you go back and play again, TBC was fun until you get to 70 than it turns into a grind for factions to and attunement quests. The raiding is the same as it was at lvl 60 except that now the raid cap is 25 instead of 40 and pvp hasnt changed much, actually hasnt changed at all.

The way I look at it is if you are having fun with something keep doing it till it wears off and than you can worry about what to do next.

didnt LotR go free to play? cause there not getting hardly any response.

WOW is fun if you like playing a RPG, doing quests and getting gear.

IF you think a RPG is community based or should be elitist guilds doing raids, you will be dissapointed.

I love the game, its fun for me.

I think if you will start play WoW agian , you will get bored of it agian , maybe faster , maybe not as fast as first time ( but the highest chances is that you will get bored much faster than first time ) . If you get bored by it , that means you missed something in this game and it wont appear if you will start play agian . I recommend to find other game .

First you must give , only than you can take .

If you are thinking of going to LOTRO. I am here to warn you guys. I'm no hater of the game or anything, but I feel everyone should get a fair warning before they start playing. I am level45 (max is 50) so i've got experience with it.

It's sorta fun in the beginning with the nice flashy graphics and all (reminds me clearly of guildwars style). The problems arrise at around 25-30ish. The population drops nearly by half and you notice all the quests are COMPLETELY identicle aside from a FEW and I mean FEW unique quests.

Respawn rates on some mobs is just so rediculous it's IMPOSSIBLE to even solo when the area is a solo area. This goes for some dungeons too even with a group the respawn is so out there you get maybe 1second to relax after each pull. This is a good or bad thing depending on what you like.

The instances are SORTA fun, because they have little action sequences in them. As you move deeper in you unlock more parts. That is neat, but you have nearly no reason to go back after completing the instance 1 time through. I only did repeats, because I either helped someone or I screwed up and forgot to grab a quest.

As far as looking unique. It won't happen. TONS of gear looks nearly identicle, but different colors. You can slo dye armor if you are freaken rich.

Mounts don't come untill level35 and you have 1 choice only. A horse. You get a few colors that's it. Oh also you get knocked off the horse everytime you get hit. So don't expect to use it for anything more then running through towns or if you're in a relatively safe zone and are on the road.

The story line quests are fun, but get very hard and it's EXTREMELY hard to put a group together. The reason I said this is because some of them have even 10-12 steps (Chapters)  to 1 quest (Books). The problem is so many people are on randomly different steps and no one is willing to help one another.. so you end up with not being able to finish them. I'm only on book3 (there are like 6) and it's totally grayed out yet still hard as hell to solo.. doesn't make sense being 20 lvls higher then the quest.

At level35 you notice another decrease in population.

    At level40 another decrease.

    At level45 it's nearly non-existant.

I shouted for 3hrs during PRIME TIME on a heavy populated server and managed to get 2 other people.. ya we basically tried the grp quests 3 times.. died all 3 times.. gave up and said fk this game. This same crap has been going on for half a month now.

People can't even say "You leveled to fast! Wait for the lower levels to catch up." hardly.. I played 4 HOURS A DAY FOR 3 DAYS A WEEK. That's casual.. not hardcore.. I have also made varias alts and made it to those supposed levels new players are supposed to be moving up from.. wrong.. it's even hard to get groups at low levels now.

Turbine needs a server merger and that's the bottom line to it.

If you are coming from WoW to this game.. do NOT waste your money unless you TRUELY feel it's worth it. This is because it's the same dang game with a new polish.. It truely honestly is.

I've been trying to return to city of heroes/villains for something much funner and different, but the patcher won't work.. go figure lol

Also I too am considering returning to WoW or simply quiting MMOs.. for good.. at least untill AoC comes out

Anyway good luck with your choices.

Thanks for the posts guys, I ended up returning to the game after all. I didn't take a break from the game cause I was bored, but simply cause I thought I was playing too much. Playing on a more casual basis now, and although I know I might not level up that fast at this pace, I'm really enjoying myself taking the time to read the quests, explore and play with the guild I just joined. So again, thanks for giving me your imput.
