Ok so I may possibly join this game and so far am intrested.I was wide eyed when I learned they had a housing system. So I look through the manual and almost drooled after reading it. But, after thinking that they work there and they are supposed to make it sound good what do the players think? Is it a good system, any fun? Post your opinions and comments here.

I always felt it was a useless money drain system..esp since the zones are instanced and not part of the combat system.
These days they are mostly good for letting players use a merchant to sell their wares to other players. I used to enjoy crafting in my house but they started offering bonuses if you craft in one of the major cities so not so useful anymore.
Also, they can be very expensive. If you try to buy a lot on Gareth (US Classic Cluster) you will find they run about 14 million gold, a decent size sum for most new players to earn.... Other servers are less of course, but still expect to spend up to 1 million gold just to buy some of the items to outfit the house....
I dunno, everyone seems to love them, so maybe I'm just not as easily impressed as other players. But I wouldn't chose to play DAOC just for its housing system, there's lots of other good reasons.

The original idea for housing was going to be cool. Areas of the world were left open with the idea that player housing and towns would be added. Then they realized how many players they had and went with a different idea.
There is a housing zone. It is near each realms capitals - you can also teleport there. You buy a lot, you buy a house, and then you have to pay weekly rent. I like having houses, but it is not as cool as it could be. Houses are good for providing you with extra storage - which can be used to transfer items between your characters. You also have a merchant to sell your items. You can buy tools to craft at your house as well. You can add NPC merchants and teleporters to the house.
You won't find people just running around housing. Travel is long, hard, and pointless on foot. It is a nice plave to fix up, put your things, and sell items though.
House = a place to transfer items to other characters on your account and Overpricing everything on the market.
I play DAOC and have no interest in player housing.
Daoc's house system is one of the best :-) and i love it .
As long u got a house, you gain storage space for items , and a wonderful way to sell items... When u play in a cluster of 2k ppls , its too easy to make money . You can sell everything!
Some players enjoy and the economy side of games
If you are on Gareth, the price for a lot is not as much as said above. I got my lot just 2 weeks ago on Gareth, Hibernia, for 300g which is the minimum you can purchase a lot for. Of course, the house itself costs 1 plat +, teleporters and such go for about 250g to 1 plat. Essentially, to get a lot, put up a house, and put in what is necessary, you are looking at about 3 plat.
The great thing about housing is the extra vault space, the consignment merchant, and the added place to have a second (hearth) bind. Other than that, if your house is not a guild house, nobody is going to see the inside but you.
