I think its more along the lines of not having a real connection to the world. In auto-assualt, your always in your car. Its the same reason I am not too into EVE, your stuck in a vehicle and it lacks many social interactions that are possible in other games.
Heh at least the EvE'ers will soon be able to leave there ships.

That's not completely true. Your out of your car in cities. Thats one step better than EVE.
Innovative yes. But i think what kill the game is the lack of content. Ncsoft should blame themself for the failure.
NCSoft just published and did the customer service for the game. The poor graphics, poor controls, and mind numbing missions would be the developers fault. Of course I read in here that the devs for AA blame NCSoft for all of that. Sounds to me like a developer bit off more then they could chew and should have spent a little bit more time working on the game before telling their publisher "It will be ready on XX date."
I tested and then played the game. It just felt shallow to me. I felt like I wasn't making any kind of lasting impact on the world/story, the missions were ok at best, and the overall game lacked direction.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
Well, can only speak for myself. I never really considered trying AA for the following reasons:
1) Until recently, I was firmly ensconced in the fantasy role playing genre, and had never given real consideration to alternative games (except for COX). I have since started playing EVE and am enjoying the change.
2) From what I recall, AA had a messy launch, and I steer clear of all games that release badly (OK, I fell for VG...but I was eager to play a new game and it seemed to have promise at the time.
3) The car concept doesn't really do much for me, would have been better if they marketed this as more of a post-apocalyptic game I might have been more interested (love all Wasteland/Fallout type games) however I have no interest in "driving" games.
4) After my bad experience in VG earlier this year I did briefly consider AA, however I read some postings by people saying it really needed a powerhouse PC to play it well, and after seeing how poorly my 2.5 yr old gaming laptop faired in VG, I figured I'd better pass.
That's pretty much sums up why I never gave AA a trial. I'll bet some other folks had similar concerns.
