Yeah, a developer named THQ has been working on a WH40K mmog for a while. Here is a press release link. Here is hoping they make it true to the spirit of warhammer 40K. But, to be honest I dont have my hopes up. Warhammer computer games have always been produced by lesser developers. Warhammer: age of reconing is prolly the only one done by a AAA developer.

I thought Chaos Gate was a pretty good shot at capturing the true spirit. As well as Warhammer 40000 Epic Final Liberation title for a game at its time.
THQ put out the Dawn of War series with relic as 3rd party developer did they not?
yes they published it, THQ get thumbs up for publishing not developing, but Relic are well known for the acclaimed Homeworld RTS games and Dawn of War, they dont seem to be involved with the mmo.
i blame THQ for Fire Warrior, cause they ported a crappy console FPS to PC. a publisher should know if a game sucks before letting me spend my money on it.
The developer of Fire Warrior was Kuju who made rail road tycoon or something.
Im not sure who THQ is getting to develop the MMO.

I think thats a mistake many publishers make, they assume that if a game does well on console it naturally will do well n PC and they bang out a rush port to cash in. Very, very few ports actually work out though, you would think they would learn by now. I feel PC gaming gets a bad rep because of this and that's why its the redheaded stepchild of gaming. (Tons of generic MMOs that are nothing but repetitive time sinks with a different fantay skins doesn't help the situation either)
Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War (RTS) rocks in my opinion and Relic/THQ did that one as well. I'm not sure how a MMO version would work, and with Warhammer Online already on its way I don't think 40K will be a huge hit (at least not as a separate game). A WAR 40K expansion pack for WAR might be a better solution, but that might screw up the lore just a tad bit...
If they made it anything at all like Planetside, that would be fantastic. Imagine squadding up, taking out a Rhino APC and heading into the frontline, while Eldar grav-platforms and tanks are tearing up the dirt with energy weapons and such. Or a line of Imperial Guardsmen trying desperately to hold back that swarm of greenskins from their positions in a ruined factory city..
I hope it wont split the popularity between the 2 online warhammer games, as i'm really hoping warhammer online succeeds - the pvp system and realm vs realm thing really is interesting.
Sadly, for the game to be all that we want it to be... It would end up with an 'R' if not 'NC-17' rating. WAR 40K is pretty adult. But man, wouldn't it be cool if they actually stayed true to the 40K universe and accepted whatever rating that required?

More warhammer stuff = more fun. Although I think pvp in a 40k universe would be 100x more fun. eg.. Flamer

You mean a "M" rating. There are plenty of successful "M" rated games.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.
I think the Dawn of War games by Relic (and published by THQ) are really fun. It's kind of weird that because those games were successful THQ is going with an entirely different developer in Vigil and making an MMO. There doesn't seem to be really any connection at all between the two endeavors.
I think it would be cool if a fun Warhammer 40K MMO were developed but have no idea if the "ex-ncsoft people" (from the press release) on the Vigil development team can pull it off.
To be honest, the recent trend of sucky MMOs (AA, DDO, Vanguard) made by development teams that WERE pretty competent in a lot of ways, has me pretty wary of the whole thing. It seems like you really need a top-notch (and not just competent) development team to make a good MMO these days...

Actually, I read about this the other month or so, not sure what it was about but it was an official announcement of some sort.

THQ have the 40K license. Its in conceptual stage of development last i heard.
THQ were responsible for the horrid game called 'Fire Warrior' a 40k FPS.
Dawn of War is made by Relic, they did a fantastic job, I would love to see them developing an MMO rather then THQ.

If they choose any particular story line, fingers crossed its the Horus Heresy storyline .
Agreed
