Talking to Strangers?

I played FFXI quite a bit when it first came out, but quit after all everyone I played with quit. I tried WOW only to be dissapointed.

I'd really love to play another game with the kind of player interaction I found in FFXI.  I feel like there's really no point in playing an MMO if I'm not really interacting with the other players at all.

How is the game now-a-days? Is it similar to Wow now where you interact with players as little as possible? Or do people actually intermingle with noobies and those outside their linkshell?

On the server I'm on everyone talks to each other. It's a really nice experience as far as community goes.
