I did just that and found no other mmo that grabs my interest cause of WoW -_-. Im really waiting for september releases of games. September is a big time for PC gamers ^_^
My thoughts? I played WoW and wasted 1 year and a half of my life to just pvp... thats all that game was to me. Quick fast insane pvp, I loved WoWs pvp combat speed. At least IMO.
Exact Same Experience right here <===
I'd played MMORPG's before WoW, and after I was done playing WoW, tried moving on to other MMORPG's and you know what, they just couldnt cut it.
Some of my best gaming experiences were in WoW, due to the polish, the grandure of the world, and how well populated it is (nothing as depressing as playing a MMORPG that's population i can count on my fingers) and I too enjoyed the PVP = even though it was pointless to a degree, but the possibility of being killed while adventuring just added more fun to the mix.
Not since WoW have I found a game that captivated me as much as WoW did... and after WoW i've played "Dungeons and Dragons Online" - "Rappelz" - "Anarchy Online" - "City of Heroes / Villians" - "Lord of the Rings Online" (EDIT: And Guildwars) - WoW was and still is the best.
I voted yes as the ONLY good thing its done was Open up the MMO market to a larger audiance. WoW however DiD nothing new game wise tho. Blizzard just copied off Warhammer and Everquest.
Well for us fans that been Blizzard games for years (STarcraft and Warcraft 3) it was an automatic we would try WoW. at the very least it has taught the industry to always offer a watered down option for newbies. WoW has many server types I hope new MMOs will do that too and offer up more diverse options
I played WoW for months before deciding I wasn't a fan of it at all (guild was playing it so I tried hard to enjoy it).
Even though I'm not fond of the game's mechanics, I'll say it's been good for the "MMO World" because it made MMOs more mainstream and introduced alot of new players to the genre of games who had never tried it before. It introduced these people to the different aspects of MMOs, PvE and PvP. Hopefully this new influx of MMO players leads to healthier populations in new PvE and PvP games that are incoming in the next few years.
as much as you may want to denie it it has. WoW is basicly like the egnision on a car. it started the MMO industry and IMO it can turn it off unless we get a good enough game to replace it *cough* WAR *caugh*
Im not sure why everyone thinks WoW bringing more people into the genre is a good thing. Mostly all its done is bring the pokemon generation into my front yard.
Sucks when you get into something good, then suddenly it goes mainstream. WoW took a big fiscal piss on the mmo community.
It also irritates me that no matter where I go, be it AoC, War, Im probably going to run into the same crowd of bnet kids and other WoW
riffraff.
I might just have to go back to text based gaming. No WoW-ites there, too much reading.
P.S WoW is a dumbed down eq clone that did only 1 thing well, they banked on brand name recognition.

Your second paragraph shows a complete elitist attitude.
Well for me this was very hard to answer. I played WoW for about 2 years with a half year break inbetween and I havent played it for a year now. WoW gave a chance for a new group of people to get into mmorpgs. Although at the same time it kinda ruined MMORPGs for some gamers. I loved classic eq right up to about LDON expansion, the game where you had to work extremely hard to get anything. It just made reaching your goals so much more fun, and escaping extreme danger was awesome.
But now those games arent really being made anymore, i thought vanguard might go back to that style and it sorta did give some of that old eq feeling, but that game was filled with soooooo many bugs and an extremely good computer ran like crap, i thought it was a good game but too many issues so they lost me for good and i havent been back in a few months
MMORPGS are all becoming way too simple and easy, I admit its great to have games like these and its what many people enjoy but there should be games for people wanting more of a challenge as well.
I still remember how DAoC and SWG was before WoW came out, so I have to say NO. The communities have definitely went down overall. At least before, the games were appealing to computer gamers. Now, I'd have to say that most computer gamers probably go "Meh" when it comes to this generation of MMORPGs. While I do understand the need for casual friendly game, since I am a casual gamer now, you could have played any game out there casually as long as you were okay with slow progression, which I am. It is a large reason why I play MMORPGs over single player games. With the exception of Final Fantasy games, single player games are beaten within a couple days to a week, while MMORPGs allow you to progress your characters over several years. But you can't turn back the clock, so you just learn to roll with the punches. Right now, WoW is the best MMORPG out there, overall speaking. So WoW is what I play.
MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW
Currently Playing: WAR Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

I know you think he is being elitist, but try putting yourself in our shoes. We had games the way we liked them and then a game came along and changed that forever. Now those of us that didn't have to put up with a whole lot of immaturity and "single-player" minded gamers, have to no matter what game we go to now. We wouldn't have this point of view if game developers continued to produce games that the original MMORPG community fell in love with.

WoW wreaked the MMO world....but truth be told, the MMO world was wreaked long before WoW even came out. The true meaning of an MMO was created by a college developer by the name of Richard Garriot, a.k.a Lord British, creating his own video game publishing company while just coming out of college. This man did wonders for the MMO community, but these wonders were killed when he sold out to EA Games. At first things were fine until EA Games shut down all of Garriots future projects. So you ask has Wow been good for the MMORPG World...I say nay, it had shot it in the foot....repeatedly.
I think that has positively impacted the industry. BUT - the solo content lacked depth to it.
People want deep, complex, and rewarding solo content that spans several levels. We are tired of boar meat and tasks and delivering notes to people. It is fine to have them, it is fine to have them as parts of an epic quest, but it does get boring.
More deep, vast, epic solo quests I think people want....
----- WoW and fast food = commercial successes. I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.

I would try it out but I am playing 4 MMOs right now. LOL.
EQ 1 on the private server. EQ 2, Vanguard, and SWG. LOL.

About the Star Wars Galaxy Online, I too am hearing great things about the game and am considering trying it out, now that i'm bored with LotR:O, even with its PVP Monster play.
I'm currently playing Anarchy Online - and that is a great game so far, but while i'm no Star Wars crazed fanatic, i wouldnt mind trying it out... is there a trail available?
BTW: The poll has been surprising to say the least.
