you cant just make up a marketing strategy like that.. especially one that consists of "we wont do anything".. they will have to get the word out, or itll flop.. ya cant rely on word of mouth when games are costing as much as they do these days.. but if they keep going the way they are, everyone that was half interested  will forget, or move on

Welcome to the 21st century. It's the age of the internet and viral marketing.  One of the developers said as much in an interview that they rather use their resources deveoping the game than whipping up a buzz. The "half interesteds" will be back when the game is out for sale. So will you.

I'm often amused by the fact that vaporware callers are always speaking up about Darkfall's supposed vaporware status. Its just like that pirate Jack in the movie Pirates of the Carribean or whatever.

"You are the worst pirate I have ever heard of."

"Yes, but you have heard of me..."

Well, sorry guys. You've heard of Darkfall. Its like ripples in a pond, or the gossip in a small town. Word about any new beta gets out faster than you can possibly imagine.

Thing is, when Darkfall beta hits, its going to be fast, only a couple of months. Release will come. People will want to try it.

Things have changed. PvP is no longer the dreaded curse-word whispered by new players, "Stay away from the PvP server Darktide, its a terrible experience."

No. PvP is being embraced by players and developers alike. The next generation of good games are going to be based on PvP, instead of it being tacked on as an after-thought or a non-necessary appeasement of a few souls (i.e. Vanguard).

If fact, I daresay that non-PvP games will start to fail as more players become accustomed to the challenge and versillitude of player-versus-player combat.

Warhammer = realm versus realm PvP; extremely PvP-centric

Age of Conan = end-game PvP with bar-fights

Lineage 2 = open PvP (although that game sucks imo because its Korean)

Darkfall is the ultimate PvP game. Shadowbane had a good idea but failed in execution. We can only hope that Darkfall devs will pull through with this, else I will have to wait for Immortal Destiny to come out... years from now.

Also, Trials of Ascension halted development because they ran out of funding. Darkfall is not in that danger.

They weren't at the new E3 this year at all, from what I heard.  A couple of them showed up last year but didn't bring anything with them, unfortunately.  People whom I know who went asked about them but weren't sure if they were there officially or just to look around in 2006.   It is true, though, that not all the indie companies get involved in the gaming exhibition circuit.  Some because they're not interested and some because they're just not set up for it or it's a bit too dear in price.  These days, I'm not sure E3 is much of an indicator of anything.

"I am sure they are aware of this and scared shitless."

Oh ya I bet thety are real scared. They just have one of the biggest publishers in the wotrld already signed on to co publish , have a game that (I gurantee you) is about 90% more complete and polished then DF is right now , and they are so scared that some of the devs make fun of darkfall publically. lol

    Scared?  I don't think so..

    "DF is still pre-alpha"

    LOL!!!!!!!!

They're actually an independent company getting finances from sponsors and their own private contracts with military simulations and the like, unless it's suddenly been changed...

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
