Last I heard they were planning the release for Quarter 1 of 2008. No specific release date has been set as far as I know.

It better not be pushed back again.

There is a fine line between anticipating a great game, and putting faith in vaporware. Besides that, WAR isn't releasing in a vacuum. A lot of people will try other games in the time WAR is being polished. Its not inconceivable that those people will love AOC or Tabula Rasa or MMO-of-the-century-xyz and give WAR the finger.

So, although I am happy to wait for WAR until the new year, I am not going to sit still and wait forever. I am not made of money either. Playing two MMOs at the same time is about my limit, and although I want WAR to be one of them, if it doesn't release before I find two good ones then... /shrug.

I doubt it will be pushed back, the engine it runs on is in like 20 games already(the 2.2 version).the company who builds that engine, emergent technologies, makes stuff for the military and law enforcement too.

You also don't want to run into the fact that bills still need to be paid, or does EA/Mythic have a grove of money trees in the back of the building?

We certainly don't want to have a Vanbug release, but just where are they? I don't even know if they have started the High Elven/Dark Elven content yet. If Feb '08 is what they are shooting for, thats 7 months from now. The July Newsletter is about the Chaos Marauder. I can only hope they decided to work on Elves in August..

EA atm has $1.35 billion in raw cash. And is Worth $15.9 billion. There almost worth more than Ford Motor(16.5 billion). So I don't see money as an issue for their divisions. Now EA has alot of other issues, like in game adds, adware via gamespy/fileplanet.lol,their investors page has flash banner ads for other companies. Not to mention  their releases dont have a steam type system.EA goes with a hodge podge approach, which makes finding servers, key validation, and loading a long mess. These problems are not a prediction of WAR,just what people have/are experiencing with say their battlefield series.

EA does have have a "steam" type downloader. Believe it is called EA Link. You can buy games online and download them. I got BF 2142 off of it and it works just as well if not better than steam. There was no unsolvable issues for me or any of the other people I have talked to that got it online. It also makes downloading patches easy as well without destroying my connection completely like WoWs Blizzard downloader. Now it is pretty much polished and works extremely well.

When I first downloaded 2142 it had an issue where on trying to load BF but it was easily solved by reinstalling the download client. Of course if you want to compare this to Steam where I constantly stay logged in but it doesn't recognize my games so I have to log out and relog back in so I can play without buying it again. Would I use the EA downloader again? Absolutely it wasn't even a blip on my radar as far as things that anger me.

Back to the topic at hand. I hope it will be released before February just because I am impatient. However I do believe that Mythic will be done and polishing their diamond for display come Q1 2008. They delayed because they wanted to rework the starting areas for Dwarves/greenskins. From what I have heard in review/previews/handsons/etc they have accomplished the rework and are working on "other" things. Plus in more than a few places they stated they were already working on the dark/high elves. I believe the wording was "Oh yeah we have been working a lot on them" when asked about the elves. Since everything is hush hush and they released a witch hunter video that was shot in February in the May newsletter it is safe to assume that almost all of the major groundwork is done. They are in beta and there are elf npcs in game(columbus video) so we have to wait until info is released. They will be polishing and balancing and repeating that process for a good amount of time. I really think they will release the most polished MMO we will have seen to date come release.

Wrong.  Q1 2008(first quarter of 2008) means January,February and March. There are fuor quarters in one year for there are  twelve months(three months by fuor quarters). Therefore April(Q2 2008) isn't,luckily ,included in the release date of WAR.

Well lets hope their business model runs from Jan to Dec. Some business's run on a fiscal year which runs from Oct to Sept. I really dont want to wait till Oct.
