Having played both - EQ2 is much the better game. EQ2 runs more more smoothly and has more content.
In Vanguard once you hit level 50 there is absolutely nothing to do. I know they are putting in a 12 man raid - but giving how badly the game plays unless you have a top level computer you wont even be able to take part. Those with high end machines will still need to turn the settings down once they get into a zone with other players.
At the moment populations are dropping off badly in Vanguard. Things should be better in terms of getting groups once the server merges kick in.
At the moment there is just much more to do in EQ2

I thought VG was suppose to be all about high end raiding content..hardcore..not for the individual player blah blah blah.
EQ2 is probably the better choice. Vanguard is all about unrealized potential... it has a very low population and those who stick with it do so mostly because they see what the game could/should be instead of what it is. EQ2 is a great game for someone looking for a little more depth.. its not near as good as Vanguard should be.. but it's better then it actually is.
