Seeing that, I can't see how you don't have Warhammer Online up there. Aside from that, NCsoft has Aion coming out. Maybe if you can live without the tried-true MMO style; Hellgate: London?

I'm very much looking forward to PotBS, but that's just me.

The combat systems seem well planned.  Swashbuckling has some new tricks up its sleeve, at least different and possibly more challenging than in the games I've played.  Naval combat also looks good too.  Haven't gotten into the beta yet, but it seems like both systems will reward a more thoughtful player who is able to plan ahead rather than just hack and slash (or shoot, as the case may be).

I'm not a huge fan of PvP, so their setup is encouraging to me.  After playing on a gankfest server in WoW, I had sworn off PvP for a long time.  The fact that many folks in the beta have been able to enjoy the game on a strictly PvE basis is another attraction for me.  And if I get the uncontrollable urge to test myself against other folks, that option is there.

Character customization, although it may be trivial to some, may approach CoX levels.  Nothing like having an avatar that is pretty unique, and not just the same cookie cutter as everyone else.

That's my two cents, hope it helps, and good luck.

Edit:  I just can't resist, seeing where you live.  GO BLUE!

Is this based on the Gamespot Live stream that was shown at 4pm PST ?

WAR is an inverted wow, replace pve raids with pvp raids.DAoC2 is just a fantasy of mine(skilled pvp on a good engine).

gods n heroes sounds great,if the come through with their NvN pvp and crafting it will be sweet. The pve looks good enough till then.

potbs seems almost like a silent hunter kind of game.have to research it.looks like a naval sim fan winner.

Huxley,is that like a bf2 or is there other stuff besides fight and respawn(like what else are games about,I know)

  • SickpupSickpup Member Posts: 382

No, i dont even watch dev controlled pve presentations or movies.I'm not looking to buy a movie,I'm in the market for a reliable game.the fact that they are not allowing any media to preview the pvp system ,hands on, 3 months before going gold gets me hedging.Especially since they have an unproven engine that is latency dependent .

Since you guys spent some time looking into these maybe not as high profile game's and come up with good conclusions, ill dig deep into all your recommendations.

Ahhh well I think if you watch it when it gets put up, your views on the game engine will fly pretty much out of the window.

Actually over 15 media types - magazines/website companies have had their hands on the game, in a testing way over the last 2 months.

Gamespot are still sorting out their videos from this afternoon and the next one to be done is the AoC one I strongly recommend you watch it and listen to the new information told when its available:

    http://e3.gamespot.com/live.html?tag=event_nav;live

Considering you put this post up about the showing at E3 and yet I doubt you have seen any footage from E3 - in a hands on way yet.

The IGN one wasn't because they ran out of time and had old media shown over an interview.

The Gamespot one was spot on.

Unless you was there in person? I fail to see how it failed you from E3. It looks like your a little pre-emtive in your assumptions. They also said around 3000 people per server, thats quite a statement from a company who things latency for that many wont be an issue.

Anyway, I'll put a link to the gamespot video in the AoC section unless someone else does it first when its up.

Btw, the sliding isnt like you have seen before, spot on animations - proper running - not like before, weapon motions for the polearm perfect (weight 2 swing ratio) and an awesome preview of a high end dungeon.

and they said in e3 that they'll be showing large scale pvp in german event soon.

Watch out of purty graphics, sometimes the game sucks.

This is why I personally don't pay too much attention to something until it's a couple months from release.  What's the point of getting worked up over something that could be drastically different upon release?

It's like thinking about Christmas present in July.

Im PoTbS all the way but still going to try AoC.

who are you? you must work for AoC because I see you do nothing but religiously defend this game when someone even remotely says anything bad about it.    the game is not even out yet, and people are talking like they've been playing it for years.

im rooting for this game because I would like a really good MMO to play..  but im not buying into ANYTHING until I play it.. i seem to remember anarchy online's launch, probably the only launch that was actually worse than vanguard and it was funcom...I actually think they INVENTED the memory leak.. lol, j/k..  but people seem to erase that out of history, or maybe that's just the wow group who have never played MMOs until wow came along.

haha was gonna post the exact same thing. I love this part especially  "it looks like your a little preemptive in your assumptions". paranoid anyone?

but on a more serious note, what's up with all the blood? latest trailer I saw had a tubload of blood spurting out on every hit. just looks ridiculous imo. would be awesome for killingblows tho.

If you watch the latest (i think its the latest) Developer interview, one of the guys discusses the blood briefly. Saying they've been fooling around with the settings and have gone through so many different versions. The interviewed himself had requested the "Uber" amounts of blood that was shown to try it out and had really been pushing it for a while. Don't freak out too soon, it'll probably change down the road. There are alot who are concerned over this, so theres no doubt they've caught wind of it.

Then again... Conan is all about the blood, guts, and gore.

WAR.. You may as well just yield and play it, everyone else is going to. As good as POTBS and the others sound, I'm afraid they won't be able to stand up to the might of EA combined with the Warhammer badge.. It quite literally will be the MMO to rule them all.

Hmm, inform yourself about WAR is the Hint I can give you. WAR is not an inverted WoW. WAR for example does not have insane amounts of Mana, it uses Action Points, much like the Mana in Guild Wars, or the WoW Rogue's Energy. You got 100, a Skill costs 60-100, it recharges quickly, but slow enough that you can't spam all your abilities (aka WoW, Fire and Forget until your Mana is empty, then reg ^_^). The Health will be like WoW though.

The "PvP Raids" you are talking off only really take place in the Capitol City raids, and there those aren't real WoW Raids, meaning you don't have to organize the whole bunch. It's much more a bulk of 5-man Groups, Guild Groups, and Solo Players who all try to push into the Capitol of the enemy to get a grip on the best loot in the game, while the Defenders are made up of another loosely organized bunch of players with the same goal. So forget DKP, Waiting Lists, Raid Plans and whatnot, log in, have fun, enjoy the carnage.

I could go on and on, but really, inform yourself about WAR, because as the Devs said it: "Of course we aren't just making a DAoC2 in the Warhammer Universe, but of course we pick out many parts from DAoC which worked well, spice them up and add them in WAR, then add a whole bunch of new cool things".

I'd say: WAR compared to DAoC is like Hellgate: London to Diablo 2. Both inofficial sequels in another Universe, both sound great on paper, but it remains to be seen if they really can deliver

If it quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck it probably is a duck. It's my resources, and I'm sure EA will survive with out my $15 per month.I am pulling for aoc but  funcom seems to be the bad news bears of gaming. So please no dev pet fanboy's on these two, there not in the running atm for me.

Is potbs historically accurate ship, damage, and gunnery wise.I kind of like the concept of a persistent wooden ships and iron men?

Gods and heroes looks cool too.do you think they will come through with their expansions?

Not to be insulting here, but... if your so biased about a game because of say orcs and dwarves looking like wow...(because beyond that it's not that similar to wow...)  then i can do something similar

    Just like this.

Your a troll, making a post about how aoc failed you, and writing war off as a wow clone, your just trying to get your negative opinions out about those games.

Because hey, If it quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck it probably is a duck.  So your a troll

If your so biased about games through incorrect/impatient opinions why should we bother to find a game you won't find a bias against?

ok thx, I did watch the interview I just didnt have sound at the time

I will definately try AoC, altho I have 0 zero expectations which in a way might be a good thing in the end. Everyone I know and their mum is gonna play WAR, I have really high expectations on that one, having played Warhammer tabletop for 10+ years and every warhammer rTS I could get my hands on. (before anyone says anything, there's no reason why I couldnt play both and enjoy them equally, so no WAR vs AoC plx)

HAHA, i'm cracking up.  When you have to follow a set path with no control of where you walk besides having your hand held to get to the next tier, i'm afraid WAR is not going to cut it.   People want to explore on an MMO not follow some set path.

  • SickpupSickpup Member Posts: 382

I'm on the general forum asking for info on releases besides the two big ones.I have my reasons and opinions why I don't want to play them.If you can't handle that I don't like your game you sound like a tween, like do you get a commission for every member or something.Jes,thank god for the WAR player filter.

I'll probably go with gods and heroes It looks like.
