The game itself is very well made and maintained.  The problem is that it relies upon a model that counts on users being able to spend large amount of time playing for little reward.  If a player is unable to advance into raiding and heroic 5mans they are stuck with very little content.  If the game had some innovation for the end game casual crowd it would be fantastic.

but how can you equally dislike all the features?  that's like saying you equally hate all flavors of ice cream.

When I was playing World of Warcraft I just got bored very easily, I constantly switched between characters after I reached level twenty. I just could not stand to play my characters anymore.

Some of the locations were also hard to get to, and took me awhile. They would say something like you will find the Warrior trainer south west of Aldrassil, but sometimes I wouldn't be in that location and when I looked on my world map the location would not be there. So sometimes it just confused me.

But I still like WoW much more than some of the other MMORPG's out there, such as GW. I just couldn't get into creating weapons and armor for yourself and the fact you could only obtain a level up to twenty.

I could go on and on why I dislike WoW, but I have to admit it's alot better than most MMORPG's out there. I think some people just dislike the game for it's popularity and the fact you have to pay monthly, unlike any of Blizzards past releases.

I voted for option 1 3 4 &8 Also the comunity is pretty immature.

    1) too easy overall ... it was too simplistic there was hardly any challenge (and not i dont define challenge as killing 10000 rats like they did in EQ)

    2) i hate the community - to many 12 year olds ... ran into lotzapuss and blomee

    3) too cartoony - i felt like my name should have been He-man or Skeletor

    4) too solo oriented ... there was almost a penalty for grouping up and running quests with friends.

    5) don't want to grind gear for hours to compete in PVP.

    Voted other.

After having played since release, I ran out of things to do.

Everything is way too repetitive, the PVE sucks, the community is horrible.  However, I haven't found a game that I liked more yet as far as combat is concerned.   It feels a lot more free and fluid than other mmorpgs.

I loved playing WOW while I was leveling characters to 60.... but as soon as I got there (5 in fact) I found myself involved in faction grinding, farming for potion mats and raiding for long hours into the night.  No matter what class I chose I seemed to end up a healer (Pally, Druid, Priest) with only my Mage and Warlock really breaking the mold... but they still had to raid.....

So when TBC was close to release I realized I was going to go through more of the same....and I didn't care to... so I left last November.... still no regrets.... I've accomplished what I needed to and now its time to move on.... (currently enjoying EVE)

Even though I am subscribed to WoW, I still voted in the poll and I will explain why.

First I think it is good to point out that I am subscribed to WOW because I feel it is the best MMORPG out there at the moment for the following reasons:

    1. Excellent UI. Ranging from the quickbars and the dressing room, to all the different ways you can link or click on links to get information. It adds conveniance that not many other games have.

    2. The game is well polished and as far as I have experienced, bug free. Dealing with nuisances while playing a game gets aggravating. The thing about most games is that people eventually get bored with the game or have maxed the game out. At the end of the day when you have gotten to that point, you will especially start to notice those nuisances. Therefore, it is better to start a game without them to begin with.

    3. Has the bases covered. The game has a good foundation for group play with the way the classes are designed. Every class has a role they play in a group if you choose to group.

    4. Caters to different playstyles. The game has instances for the group oriented and those instances are fun and have good quests stories related to them. Raids for those who like raids. The game is also solo friendly for those that want something to do until they find a group or for those that just want to solo to level cap. The game also offers a variety of PvP options ranging from world PvP  with objectives in Outlands to small controlled environments, like the Battlegrounds.

    5. Progress that you can see. You gain skills every even level, talents every level after level 10, and you get weapon and gear upgrades constantly as opposed to games where you where the same armor for 10 levels. For those that like to concentrate on outward apppearances in-game, this is a nice bonus.

    6. Well funded. Blizzard has a lot of money and spends a lot of money on this game. The music is created by an orchestra, which is really good. The website offers more than any other games website does at the moment. Being well funded is important, because it enables the developers to create quality expansions both free and paid for and also gives the players a sense of security for the games longetivity.

With that said, I will now list why I voted in this poll:

    1. The "general" popullace are pretty immature "and/or" inconsiderate. The previous generation of MMO gamers weren't really this way and this is a direct result of the game appealing to non-traditional MMO gamers (ie. the general public). Communities will eventually make or break a MMO. Factors that determine this are the size of the community and the maturity level/friendliness of the community. I imagine that when and if WoW decreases to a low enough sub number, the game will fail not because of it being a bad game, but because newer players don't want to put up with the bad communities crap. *(With that said, there are plenty of good people that play Wow, such as the guild I am in on Moonguard)*

    2. Lack of freedom. I like you traditional sandbox MMORPG that are closer to reality than WoW is. I prefer to customize my character in every way ranging from his appearance and stats to what skills I want to use in-game. I also prefer the world to not have developer created barriers, such as impassible mountains.

    3. Too linear. The game leads you by the hand from one zone to the next. I am not so stupid that I need led by the nose to each zone, nor do I want to play in a game that is set up that way. Levels and Classes do not alone make a game linear, it is how they are implemented. Without the ability to really customize your class through either multi-classing to a good choice of hybrid classes, you really feel boxed into a predetermined playstyle for each class that doesn't nessassarilly fit each player.

    4. Mundane and boring quests. I thought the idea of gaining levels by doing quests was revolutionary until I seen what your run of the mill quests consisted of. I love a good quest, such as a quest that would range several levels, which allowed you the freedom to choose how to beat it, but I cannot stand these 2min-1 hours quests that consist of deliver, kill x number, or collect this many of x quests. The boringness of quests are why I find it pretty hard to advance in this game. I just lack the motivation to continue on, whereas in games like DAoC in which you grind on mobs to reach max level I actually enjoy leveling. This of course relies fully on if I can or cannot find a group to grind or quest with.

    5. Too loot oriented. This is only bad when the community doesn't have the maturity to handle a game system that depends heavily on it. WoW's community doesn't typically handle it well, because they would much rather stab you in the back then let you get that drop they really want.

Anyhow, those are my reasons. I will remain subscribed to WoW as long as I have something to do, but I will be gone as soon as something better comes along.

Overall, I like the game. A better title for the thread would be "What don't you like about WoW?"  MY answer isn't even in the list, though it's been mentioned several times by other people, in this thread and others: The community.  I've met some good people in WoW, but for every decent human being I meet, there seems to be five back-stabbing, smack-talking, leet-speaking, window-licking tardfarmers.

Most of the time, I play with the public chat channels turned off, so I don't have to read "hord sux lol" and "dont grp w Butsmoker hes a nijna and cant tank" and the flaming tardfests that inevitably follow those comments. Even huge 40-man raids wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the conflicts and infighting slowing everything down. The WoW community makes the communities of my other MMOs (CoH and EQ2) seem positively angelic.

    Welcome to MMORPG's.

  • I voted for the lack of sandbox, but there's obviously more.  I don't have a problem with a game on rails, as long as you can get off the rails as well.  I miss player housing, I miss a very very large world, I miss truly rare items, I hate raids with a passion, I hate bind on pickup even more then raids, I hate non-dynamic content, static loot tables, lack of randomnes, I miss dungeons that can adjust to the number of people playing (e.g. group size limits and necessities), and over all I think that wow could be so much more.

There's lots of things I like, but all the things missing in the game make me feel like I'm paying for an inferior product.  All some dev has to do is combine the sandbox of SWG with the gameplay of wow (minus raiding), and I'd probably be a customer for a long long time.  But I guess if they wanna keep catering to the lowest common denominator of player, then I just won't be playing MMOs.

It got old doing nothing at 70.  It was either

    • Rep grind
    • Raid or Die

You could always create a new Guild at that level.

But other than that, I agree.

However, I just avoid playing the game when I realize Blizzard went nut and did it the raiding way.

wow is to me just an item hunt. and at the end a epic raid item hunt. fun for a while, but boring in the end. and don't even get me started

    on the community. worst ever.

p.s. considering how much money blizzard makes with this game you'd think it wouldn't kill them to put out a little free content every quarter or so. cheapskates! one expansion in its life!

    one thing

l2play..fear is most nerfed thing in wow

u have alota goodies to counter it..if u arent noobster^^

Sorry to hijack, but I can't take that poster seriously. You used "l2" anyone who uses that is clearly someone who plays MMOs more fervently than me. So I don't have 50 items to turn off fear, that makes me a noob? Well fine, I'd rather be a "noob" in that respect than a lvl 70 in full Raid gear and have a severe masturbation problem.

That was probably the funniest thing I've ever read on these forums...and it's so true.

I voted gear dependance, because when it comes down to it I've fought and epic'd out 60 warrior, when I was a 60 warrior and he auto-attacked me to death.

He /laugh'd and /pity'd as he auto attacked me to death, all the while I'm trying the best I can, spinning around, jumping, using intercept every time the cooldown finished, disarming,  fearing him and bandaging to full health; but in the end all it ended up with me getting him to half hp and him eventually using all the rage he got from me attacking him and his auto attacks and executing me.

I tried as hard as I could, in my bits of T0 and player crafted BoE blues from the AH... but this basically summed the PvP in this game up for me. I still play WoW out of complete boredom.. I mine a little bit here and there, level my alt.. but I know I have no future in this game.

i was gonna say "i dislike WoW"..... but i actived my account again. after almost 3 months ( ive played WoW for over 2 years).

its was really good to see my mage again :). i guess  WoW is  more for Casual Gamers than HC Gamers.

  • daelnordaelnor Member UncommonPosts: 1,556

If you actually play the game to the top level, and go through all the effort to get all the gear..you realize there was never a purpose to do so. When raiding to get gear is the endgame..I'd rather douse myself in gasoline and light myself on fire.

I just can't get into that kinda thing anymore. I just want a reason to be grinding for all that junk that will be useless as soon as the new xpac comes out.

Oh...and the pvp in WoW blows arse.

Other than that it is a good game that plays well with few bugs. Good starter game for the genre.

    1) Too linear. There's no real reward for exploration, socialization, or crafting.

    2) Community is very bigoted at times despite Blizzard's EULA and community standards rules. So I can't say that it's any good.

    3) RAID is a word for parallel harddisk drives, not gameplay, please for the love of Alan Turing's ghost stop this madness! #_#;

    4) The gear makes me look worse than an NFL player (since when did real soldiers of medieval times ever wore shoulder armor the size of one's melon..?) combined with a professional wrestler from the '80s!

It's not set in a medieval timezone.

It's set in a fantasy timezone never created. So in that world armor like that is the norm.
