I'll wait on WAR unless reviews of AOC turn out better than I expect.

WAR is the only game I'm really waiting on (so that makes it a 2008 pick).... this year I think I'll stick with EVE unless AOC truly turns out to be different....

what i would like to know is - how integral/important to the game can these big chunks of the game be if they aren't there at launch?

specially crafting - if it is something that will, at some point, maybe, be added later what is the point?

this was the only game this year i was truly interested in until i dug a little too deep and found out it was gonna be a chock-a-block release - haven't we had too much of this already

Well, it's the difference between really awesome crafting and pvp systems that devs and players have put a lot into to make sure it's fun and some makeshift systems that the devs just put in, cloning WoW's systems...  Also, since PE is a brand new company, they need to release it so they can get some money coming in, which, imo (and im sure many other people's) is a lot better than getting money from SOE to 'help'.  BTW, PE's plan is to drop SOE and go all downloading, who knows when that will happen though.

Anyway, bottom line is solid game at release is way better than 2 more years of delays and/or half-assed WoW pvp and crafting clones.

Potbs-low realism naval sim is too basic

AoC-no hands on reviews of its main content, steep learning curve, high system requirements

    Tcos-pve only?

tabula rasa-looks like with new deal with sony this is gonna be geared for ps3,auto-target,auto aim in a fps type game.no pvp.

Gods and heros-solid engine, seems to be doing a somewhat modular release(otw) for NvN combat and some other features, moderate system requirements.

You might want to research a little on each game before you spew out stuff you have no idea what your talking about.

    1) Tabula Rasa is going to have PVP

    2) Every MMO has auto-targeting, it all depends on the die rolls you get, their not all a FPS. In the case of TR, they have said many times that the game is NOT a FPS.

    3) I haven't heard of any PS3 deal with TR and I follow all info on the game and haven't seen any thing on a PS3 port deal. Which if there was what would it matter, its a PC game too.

Any way, back to OP, Tabula Rasa is going to be my pick for this year and next year I'll be trying out Stagate Worlds.

PvP in Tabula is going to be tacked on. TR is a PVE title first and foremost. So I don't see it going anywhere fast IMHO. In fact most people who pick it up without doing some research and find out it's a PVE game at it's core will become angry and upset when they realized that PvP is secondary. At which point you'll get a massive flood of "Tabula Rasa SUCKS !!!" threads. Not to mention that it seems more like Auto Assault without the cars in it's game play.

Yet again an opinion, no one knows what the game will do at retail, I'm not going to pretend to know. What I can tell you is I'm going to buy it regardless of opinions laid out in such juvenile ways. Yes PVE is going to be the main focus of the game but it'll have some good PVP elements also. In my opinion, I don't think you'll be getting that massive flood you speak of at all. PVP is not what video games are about, it's about story telling. Every game has stories to tell and TR is no different than WoW, War, or any other game out there. And if you base your judgment on a game cuz the PVP is not as strong as in another game is stupid. If all you want is PVP thin your in the wrong gaming market.
