Well I'm bored of it, so bored I won't log in anymore and I have really only played maybe one week solid in the 4 weeks I had the game because of finals and such...
The game does what it does well, but it is just far too simplistic to keep my attention long. I thought that maybe it would keep my attention for 3 months and then by that time CoV would be out and the pvp might string me along after...but CoV isn't going to come out till NEXT YEAR! Man no way will this game keep me till then.
I need complex games with a lot to do, not just mindless killing and levelling with no crafting, no economy, no loot, no equipment, no epic encounters...
Man I hope I can get into EQ2 beta, I'm going crazy with nothing to play!
This is not a game to hold someone over until something else comes out. This is a game for super hero geeks and casual players and not for your normal MMOG players. I personally like the game, but I'm not anticipating the release of WoW.

Lol, complex games? Mindless crafting, camping for epic loot hour after hour is complex!? Do me a favour. None of the mmorpgs are complex, they just require time. The most successful players are social retards who have no life away from their keyboard, not particulary intelligent.
I think it will hold it's own till WoW comes out... and afte it. It will have a small player base though ( I will not be playing, as I am bored to tears already) But I do think it will be a smaller MMO than what they would ahve liked...unless they make some big changes faster than the coming of CoV
There are a few people that do not like CoH but most players do. Yes it is more geared towards casual players than the average MMORPG so you get a lot of casual player fanbois. (people that probably don't even know about this web site)
Those that do not like it call it boring but I find it ten times more enjoyable than any other MMORPG. The combat is much better first off. The content is more about enemies with different attacks and strengths instead of the same mob over and over with different skins like DAOC or EQ.
If you really need crafting don't get CoH, well don't get it until they add crafting. Same thing goes for PVP and housing. These things are a year off.
Now I was very interested in WoW until I played Coh and I lost interest in WoW fast. If I have a maxed character I like in CoH I will not be leaving it in a hurry just to go level a character in WoW.
Its seems like some of these ppl are kind of new to the game... I started to play this game as soon as it came out. And im bored of it!!! Because there is not so much to do, then to lvl ur char... and that get kind of boring after some time... The thing is... when i first started to play it, i thought i was great because of the simple gameplay. It was easy to get in to (not like ALOT of other mmorpg games where it takes u 100000h just to learn how to...) and it was FUN!!! But the fun begins to fade way after awail... And because there is nothing else to do then to lvl and lvl and buy enhancements... so em it gets quite boring i tell u.. and there for i dont really think its gonna last till WoW (well i know its not gonna last for me) The thing is with the new ppl is that they havnt given it to much time... first time u play it its like WOW!!! and u gonna think its WOW till u played for like maybe a month... But its a great game and its very nice and almost no bugs and stuff so if u wanna play a good game go and buy it, but its not much of a long lasting one... like other mmorpgs!
Also u can only get up to lvl 40... after that there is no point of playing with that char... i think after the first really update, u can become lvl 50...
Once again, CoH is not for powergamers (or "traditional MMOers" to some)... you can ignore all the content if you're focused on grinding and leave all of it behind... the exploits (minor) that exist bascially take you around the game and leave you at level 40 not having experienced most of the game and thusly very bored...
Most people are having fun teaming and getting the feeling of being a superhero, the people who (whether they know it or not) are looking for EQ in tights are left SOREly dissapointed...
But, even for powergamers, CoH is TONS of fun for two weeks...
It is a shame, this game really seemed like it was going to be interesting. It isn't. The game lacks anything at all to do once you have defeated your umpteeth identical mob. The game is just bad as it sits today. It is nearly impossible to find a team if you are not in a supergroup. People are leaving in droves.
Cryptic had such a good idea, but made a shooter not a MMORPG.
I wouldn't consider myself a powergamer, but this game is for online gaming beginners that need to be spoon fed the game. If you have any experience at all in online gaming don't waste your time here for at least a year. I really can't see how they can turn this borefest around into a real game. It has nothing, the characters are dressed differently but are basically identical. It has zero content and perhaps the most repetative gameplay I have seen since Atari days. People are falling alseep in this so called fast game.
"The reality of the poor in America isn't the difference between The Haves and The Have Nots, it is the difference between The Haves and The Have Lots."
I've been playing this game for over three months now, and the honeymoon is definitely over, but not forgotten. Much like the other mmorpg's I've played, the grind factor sets in after the initial wow-factor wears off. Hands-down, though, this game is great to play for an hour or two a day. More than that amount of time, you really have to have a decent team (small or large - doesn't matter) to play longer. After lvl 10-ish, solo fights can get so long and involved if you don't play a blaster (I don't), that I'll check out.
Can you find teams without being in a supergroup? Hell yes, during typical US hours. I mostly play pick-up teams and the only time it gets "lonely" is playing 2-7am PT when I can't get back to sleep. Part of it may be the language barrier with the European players, though. A fair amount of Belgian/French/Spanish players in the dead of night...
CoH is slanted to the casual gamer right now. I meet several people every time I log on that this is their first mmorpg experience. A lot of couples, too. Definitely, a different crowd than usual. They (and I) enjoy the light-hearted fun the game provides. This is like gaming in 60's and 70's era comic books.
I hope the dev's follow through on the proposed content additions in the coming months. More mission variation at all levels would garner a group cheer right now. Its all about good teams and tinkering with new powers right now for me and many others. And a team of 3-4 people who can work together well and can engage some light chat that goes beyond basic tactics makes for helluva fun (not uncommon for me). My biggest pet peeve with this game is that there is no way catalog or track your characters development other than levelling. I'd love to have the company set up character pages like DC's Who's Who books that catalogs your achievments and effectiveness against the growing number of villain groups in the game.
I don't know where people are getting the impression that there's this mass exodus of players. I don't have any hard numbers, but i know that on the 2 servers i play on that I'm bumping into a lot of players in the afternoon and evening in the pre-level-20 areas. I do know from personal experience and the game boards that quite a few of the more experienced mmorpg-ers are burning out on the game. Those people are probably leaving in droves after their first month is up. Oh well, 50 bucks for just a month of gameplay - sounds like a lot of games I've played. Their advanced skill base works against them in this game because it doesn't have a lot of distracting time-sinks like crafting and camping for uber-loot.

The game offers very easy teaming in the early levels. It becomes quite difficult by level 25 and once you hit level 30+ finding a team outside of your supergroup is not possible. Best to find a very good group to join in the low levels because you will meet nobody new in the later levels.
Part of this is that there are not as many high level characters. This is caused by a few different reasons as well. The devs are constantly nerfing. They are having spasms with swinging the nerf bat insanely, hitting everything around them. Picture a bull in a china shop.
Another reason that there are few higher levels is that people leave. The game offers bordem in such a quantity that you will feel greasy and nerfed yourself for even playing it. It is VERY possible to fall asleep playing this so called 'fast combat' game.
The recent nerfs have destroyed teaming in a team oriented game. Cryptic is going crazy to stop people from gaining XP to try and stop the rate at which they are moving through this boring game. They incorrectly believe that if you slow down the grind they wont have to add any content. Cryptic appears to be completely incompetent and ignorant when it comes to MMORPGs.
If you want a repetative shooter where you get to wear some tights... then CoH is perfect. If you are looking for something, anything at all in a game, you wont find it here.

After everybody complaining about getting to level 40 too fast, now if they nerfed it down to slow that progression to level 40, people are still going to complain.
About mindless leveling, every MMORPG out there to me seems to be mindless leveling, even UO which had skill sets and not levels and even games like Eve where you spend money on your levels. RPGs are still about leveling no matter how you look at it. If you hate leveling, stop playing RPGs. It's where the mindless part slips in is where games can be judge. UO, EQ, and all the EQ clones that have sandwich-style combat is all mindless leveling. CoH does combat a little bit different, but it's still close enough to the sandwich-style that it can be mindless to still a lot of people. There are no twitch style combat MMORPGs out there. Neocron is first person, but it's still not twitch based. You can try Planetside, but it's about combat certifications instead of levels and there's not many certs to get and has really nothing in the way that other RPGs have.
Someone mentioned they bought CoH to hold them over until WoW. Are you still playing CoH? If not, you proved my point. If you are, are you liking it and not getting bored and will you still be playing until WoW comes out?
Man alot of you think CoH is gonna die but look how long Diablo 1 and 2 lasted. COh is much more similar to those games with a deepr storyline and more content being added in. THe game has only been out for 1 month. This games is loads of fun then games like SWG. I was getting bored of tthat after like the 1st month. I spent so many hours not really doing anything in that game besides camping and such. At least with City of Heroes I can accomplish something and the community is awesome. I think with CoV coming the new missions and stuff being added soon. CoH is gonna last a long time. But true the game needs and update and will keep needing updates to keep it going or a game wide even every month or 2 like the Rikti invasion. This game has tons of potential and I don't think it's gonna die. Mindless games like this tend to have a longer life span then other games out their. How many people still play Double Dragon, Diablo or those old school beat em ups and wish they would come back. well that's what City of heroes is. A beat em up MMORPG style. If you like camping crafting and all that over boring stuff that makes a game seem like a job then CoH will probably never be for you. You must really be socially inept if you can find games Like EQ and SWG really all that interesting for so long. I know so many people that have left because they got 2 uber or because they realized they wasted to much time on those games.
Well I'm currently playing CoH and enjoying it quite a bit, but I can tell you for sure that once WOW comes out I'm ending my account and moving over... nothing personal against CoH, I just don't feel that game has a lot of long term depth, cause it basically just turns into a massively long level grind, and WOW will be the best MMORPG ever!

This game is different. It does not cater to what many have been looking for in MMORPG's. On the other hand, over a month in and i'm still having a blast.
Many of the people I have seen complaining about lack of variety and interest also can't tell you anything about any of the storylines in the game other than "X contact sure has me kill a lot of <Y> mobs..."
I don't see this game going away, You'll see Horizons and several other of the cookie cutter MMORPG EQ/DaoC clones out there fall first, IMHO. This game has a market, people who are more casual players (yeah there are people who only play 2-3 hours at a time and only 2-3 times a week...), and are not as into the fantasy genre games. This game will be around long after WoW has released. And I hate to differ with an above fanboi but I doubt WoW will be the end all be all of MMORPGs that people are trying to make it out to be. I remember when Horizons was going to be that, and I remember how it turned out.
In agreeance with someone else: people were rampaging to level 40 because of some easily exploitable character templates so the inevitable "balancing" came and now guess what.. people are complaining because they CANT rampage to the cap level fast enough for thier pace. If you aren't used to this you aren't used to MMORPGs.
Also , running a game up on a cross to be stoned at about a month old seems a little premature, don't ya think? At least see what the first content and features update brings.
WoW sux CoH sux for me. EQ and EQ2 best games ever made. No other can beat the king of all MMORPGS. If there was no EQ1 there would be no other MMORPGS For another 3 years.

I don't know I just got it and that's what I am using it for. Just to hold me over until World of Warcraft comes out.
I'll stick with CoH because i can't see myself going back to another EQ clone ever again... and WoW looks really bad.

This game is basically a video game, its only fun for about 30 mins a day.
Theres basically only 1 thing to do in the game, and thats kill bad guys.
Missions will all be the exact same, and are not going to entertain you.
Theres massive nerfs and you can get very easily dissapointed :
This is hard to call COH a mmorpg, more like.... Vice city -copy paste- change some stuff around
AC2 Morningthaw, Horizons, SWG, EQ2, L2, COH, Vanguard, Runes of Magic, Rift, SWTOR, AA, Tera
instead of responding to him and bumping his thread, cease typing and upping your post count without reason?
wow serve, good idea.
