All the PC building/upgrading advice you will ever need!!!

I made this post on the official AoC board and would like to share it here.

As with many new games, i am seeing alot of questions about people building or upgrading thier computers. As my first post (finaly) i would like to contribute all of the information you will ever need to do it right.

First is a website called Tom's Hardware Guide, anyone that likes computers or is planning to build/upgrade one is wrong if they do not use the great compairison charts at this site.

http://www.tomshardware.com/index.html

Pick your country then it will bring you to the homepage. On the left side you will see a menu bar. Lets say you are looking for a good graphics card. Click on "graphics&displays" then on the next page, under the link you just clicked now click "VGA Charts". This will tell you everything you will ever need to know when shopping for computer hardware. It compairs almost every credible card with a series of different tests in a very easy to read chart. You can change the testing conditions on the fly, making this this best tool for even the noobest computer geeks to find the right hardware. There are charts for every major computer componant so you can get the best of every part.

After that you need to compair price to performance. Behold the power of newegg.com This is the only place i shop for computer parts. It has all the best parts, for the best prices. On top of that it has hundreds of reviews for every part on the site.., the one stop shop indeed.

http://www.newegg.com/

Build a computer using Tom's Hardware guide and newegg, and add all of the parts to your newegg wish list.(instead of clicking "add to cart" click "add to wishlist") After you have all the parts put them into a saved wishlist then make it public. You can now email and link this wishlist for other people to view. Here is my current wishlist for a computer i will be building in a few months.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=6943988&WishListTitle=Clifford's+Gaming+PC

Now take the link to your wish list and head to either Tom's Hardware Guide forums or EggXpert.com (newegg community site) Find the section for home built PC's and link your list and ask for peoples suggestions.

http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/default.aspx

The people on both sites are very helpful. They will help you find the right parts to meet your needs and point out any errors in compatibility for your novice builders. This is the most effective and eaiest way to build the best PC to fit your needs. Good luck!

    nice

    few remarks tho,

1st, you say you gonna build the linked rig in a few months ... I am afraid you will have to start over at that time :p prices and technology change, but you can still use it as a base to build upon.

Second, why did you pick the 650i over the 680i chipset, in an otherwise almost over the top config? ( cept for harddisk, didnt see that mentioned, I assume you will use a raptor ? )

Much will change in three months of course, and my list will change accordingly.

After reading many articles and many many debates i dont see the need for a 680i. As of now (thats now) it does not out perform the 650i. Though i would guess, before i build this rig in three month, theres about a 75% chance i will switch it to a 680i board, but i just cant justify that to myself just yet =)

yea before i do ANYTHING on my computer hardware wise i always check Tomshardware.  They also list good comparision charts for Vid cards, HD, Processors and such as well.  Tom's and new egg is a great duo for new comp building or upgrading hehe.
