How many more days?

StorpappaStorpappa Member Posts: 17

Till the first free month is up, and we dont have to hear the crying posts about not liking this game?

If you dont like it after the free month, dont pay for another month.  I like it, as does a good number of people I work with and game with, and it will be nice to come to these forums again in a few days and not have any more "I'm bored of this MMORPG" posts.

Every MMORPG has the same things in it - it the people you adventure with in the game that makes it immersive and enjoyable. Solo MMORPG, level grinds, quests for x loot, hunting all night long to farm a rare 18 hour drop item - those things get old for a lot of people. No one ever gets tired of meeting a group of friends online and having a little game time after work, good or bad, productive or Vitae or debt accumulating.

Every new player that buys the game will get a free month from the day they buy it so that period will not end for everyone until the day people stop buying it.

As for people posting opinions about what they like or dislike thats one of the many points of having a forum like this.  As long as they keep on topic of the threads they are posting to I cant really see how you can fault them.

The thing that annoys me is when someone is asking something totally unrelated to a "is the game good or not" type question and some idiot pops in and says the game sucks.  If you want to post the game sucks or your review of it do so in a new thread or in response to one that deals with the quality of the game.

I love the this site and its forums but that is one area the mods are not nearly dilligent enough in.  Keeping posters on topic would help to keep a more constructive and friendly posting environment.

Storpappa, I don't like your avatar.  You have to take it down because I don't like it, and everyone has to adhere to my opinions because the entire universe revolves around me.  So take it down.  NOW!

Get used to seeing this alot.. * You have been disconnected from Mapserver* RLMFAO

You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet.-Mr.Smith

Hmmm, I was never disconnected but that would probably have been more fun then playing the game. image

I agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion and provided they do it in a non-offensive way, they have the right to express it. What get's me is that often times people have no clue why they have the opinion they have so their posts end up being "It sucks" or "It rocks".

People complain about CoH having no depth. They complain that the only way you advance is that you kill things. Well, um, isn't that the same of just about all MMOGs? Doesn't matter whether the setting is fantasy, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic or super hero, levelling is about killing. Now some games add in tradeskills and the ability to level those skills by using them but essentially it is the same model as combat XP. Instead of killing NPCs you are killing resources instead.

Then there are those that believe that loot=depth. Sure games like AO have thousands of items, but how many of them are truly useful? After you play long enough you eventually find the uber template for items and everything else becomes crap that you sell back. I'd much rather just have the cash instead of the tons of worthless items, thanks. Unless the majority of the items have uses, then hey, you haven't added depth, you have added performance overhead for your database.

There is as much depth to CoH as any other MMOG, IF, repeat IF, you are interested in what they offer. The stories. The plots. The detail in the city structures and the NPC conversations. It's there but perhaps it just isn't what YOU personally are looking for. That doesnt mean the game 'sucks' it just means it doesn't have the right fun factor for you. For a game to truly 'suck', I would think you would have to point to poor performance, rampant bugs and exploits and a lack of attention by the developers. None of that exists for COH.

So say you don't enjoy it, or say you enjoy it, but two word comments of your opinion will always be challenged. It is the nature of the beast.

I see this fallacy all over these boards.  The fact is: when someone is attacking a certain game, you can't go to another game and say, "Well, that one has that problem, too".  It doesn't do anything for your argument.  The fact that this other game has the same problem as the one I am attacking has, doesn't make me feel any better about the problem that I complained about.  If two games have that problem, then both need to be fixed.  But stick to the game that is being discussed.

Zide, perhaps for a large number of people playing MMOGs, in fact probably a majority, it isn't a problem. That is the entire nature of the game. If you don't like levelling and you don't like killing things to level, then perhaps you don't like MMOGs or have just grown bored with the genre as a whole. So it does apply to more than just the game at hand. Claiming that a certain activity in one game which also exists in all the others is a problem is just not a logical argument. Sure you can talk about the mechanics of how you do this activity, which is one of the things that sets the games apart, but the basic concept is true from title to title.

People will generally have their best and most memorable experiences in the first MMOG they play and/or the first MMOG they play with a decent group of virtual partners. While there may be some variations on how you perform the timesinks, the more MMOGs you play the more you will find that at the root of the genre much is the same. So each subsequent game you play, the newness of the game will wear off faster and you are left wondering just what else there really is to do.

Why do you level? What happens after you have developed your character to the point you want it? Why are you killing mobs and/or other players? What is the meaning behind it all and what difference does it make? These are the questions that anyone that has played more than 2 MMOGs ends up asking eventually. In time, as the market continues to expand and technology continues to improve, hopefully we will see these questions answered. In the interim we are left with 2 choices, enjoy the games for what they are today or walk away and come back in a couple years to see how things have changed. This is not unique for MMOGs, it applies to any genre of game.

Yeah.  And all of them need to change their formula.

LOL, I just replied to this exact reply over in the SWG forums. Are you recycling your replies Zide? image I will say this, as a recent poster in these forums, I think Zide56 might be one of the more interesting posters. I seldom agree with him, but he makes for good reading. I admire your dedication Zide56.
