How hard will it be to level in this game?

AnkorAnkor Member Posts: 258

Any ideas?

Are we looking at a WoW, Guild Wars, LotR style of easy leveling or are we looking at a time sink like Vanguard or AO to get to the end-game/top level?

I hope its not as easy as GW Factions because that was easy to reach max,if its like normal guild wars where it took the whole game to reach 20(or until u got to kryota forest or whatever) then that would be nice. From what i played in beta for LoTR it was kinda hard to lvl but i didnt get that into it either so i didnt spend mutch time

and wow was too easy even though i still dont have a 70(65 thought) but thats because i get bored and stop playing for months at a time and i dont raid or do instances either

  • The majority of Guild Wars advancement occurs after level 20 since skill collection is the most important aspect.  WoW is a pure level game, Guild Wars is not.  Comparing the rate of leveling in the two games is completely pointless.

They said it will take about 900 game play hours to max level.  Granted after enough time people will do it much faster.  That being said,  the average player will complete this in 10 months.

I thought Vanguard leveling was reallly fast if you did the qeusts.

for AoC there is really no way to know until the game is in open beta or launches.  That being said i hope it is hard to level imo.

WoW did indeed go quicker than other MMO's but MMO's in general suck up alot of time with grinding compared to single player games. Not that Im complaing all too much - I would prefer a grind akin to DAOC or WoW where it isnt too too bad. Games like EQ and Lineage are ridiculous for me and unholy grinds like them really turn me off.

As to leveling speed. If you consider AO to be a real time sink, you should play something like FFXI lol. In AO you can lvl to 200 in no time, even as a newbie. At least these days. There hasn't been any specific comments on how fast leveling will be in AoC. But the devs have hinted that they prefer a faster rate to a slower one, so that you can enjoy the PvP endgame and/or raid encounters in the game. I'd espect it to be on the fast side, but not WoW or GW fast.

The question he was asked was this, after answering that the max level would be 80.

"How long can we expect untill we see level 80?"   his answer was the 900 hours comment.  It was a rather odd answer to the question, but it was what he said.  You can take from it what you want.

Vanguard leveling? Fast? Har/ How high did you get your character?

it takes 20 days to get a character to level 35.  There are 50 levels. Higher level math right? Let me help you out. The average playtime per level is 13 hours for that statistic. So at linear progression... it takes 680 - ish hours to cap a character in VG. That doesnt account for the higher levels being harder to grind.

I will never spend that much time on a character. Too freakin boring.  I spent 26 days in WoW. Total. Between all two of my characters. 20-somethin lock and 60 rogue.

Hell, I didnt even spend that much time on my ONE berserker in DAoC.

... I have spent that much time running windows though. And because Im sure MMO's dont act as operating systems... they should require less time. ((Lol just try to figure the logic out on that one))

Cutting the crap, I seriously AoC gets their sh** wired and has a balanced level progression.  ((Example of what not to do : Vanguard, WoW progression was fine... but abilities every other level sucks))

The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.

Hmm, not sure the average player will accept 37.5 days played to level 80 after experiencing today's games, (especially WOW gamers) let's hope he was mistaken.

I enjoyed WoW's leveling system.  I hope AoC has a more epic feel, but hopefully it doesn't do this with constant grinding.  One of the biggest draws of a shorter leveling time is being able to level multiple classes to max level.

The time it takes to level depends on how much you wanna explore and meet people.

Just to "power level" and talk numbers is for carebears.

And it shouldent be the level that matter..its the road......

I bet bthere will be tons pf players that have maxed out after 2 weeks........and do they miss the point of MMOs?

I honestly couldn't see a game takeing 900 hours to reach the max level. If I had to grind monsters for 900hours . I'm hopeing the levelings on the fast side not like GW where you get max in 2days but decent amount of time thats not totally insane

That's insane! Especially for a PvP game.

I'd bet my house they notch that down severely. People just don't want to play the Mother of All Grinds anymore.

I have to disagree Vanguard leveling is super fast.  At release it took 17-30 days to 50 now its 10-12 days to 50.  I have a guild mate that has leveled to 44 all solo in 6 days and a few hours.

Wrong, they said they try to make games with 900 hrs of gameplay. They see 900 hours as the average time a player will play the game which equated to 10 months. If one dev on these forums says it will take 47hrs of hardcore gameplay to reach lvl 40, its not going to take 853 hardcore hrs to do the other 40 and all the pvp and crafting lvls. I think you need to listen to it again, and read the official forums on the matter.

Imo your prob looking at 130 hours to reach lvl 80, the rest of the 900 hours quoted is for general enjoyment of the game. They try to make games that last 10 months because Funcom believes that , that is the average time a player plays in an mmo before moving on.

    To AmazingAvery:

I agree to your opinion in general, but i would guess that it will be like 150 hours for a tweaked character with epic gear that knows his way around very well...

At release that would mean it takes players like the double to get to max level, so expect soemthing like 300 hours atleast. if you are a power gamer and even like 500 hours if you are an average gamer that takes his time to enjoy the game.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Quite possibly your right at 150 for lvl 80. I for one will be enjoying it, and as soon as lvl 40 comes up, I will be helping in building the guild PvE city anyway I can =) So I won't be out and about all the time gathering exp from the quests straight away :P

The amount of time it took to get to max level in WoW is more than enough for me.

If some people feel the need for leveling to be a time the simple answer is alternate server sets. Make it they "Hardcore" server. Where it takes months to reach max level...Don't penalize casual players by making it nearly impossible to level at a reasonable rate as a result of catering to hardcore players. It just doesn't make sense.

really, in the game training doesn't seem all too boring, so time should fly by (hopefully) leveling up

Yea my wife and i (drood/monk)would go town by town and collect all the qeusts and when we kill the few mobs and turn in the quests taht was at least 1 level lol.  we gained 3 levels in 1 day (about 4 hours of play)at high 30s in greystone.  (we both made 50 within about 1.5 months of casual play)

I appologize for being off topic .   Think about it this way, the longet it takes you to level up in AoC, the longer you can enjoy the game :)

to get ot endgame wow too me a few months, so wasn't that bad, but there is no way to tell how fast lvling in AoC wil take until ppl actually start playing it, it hopefully wont be like EQ2 pvp where most ppl stay in the lower half of the game for pvp/twinking purposes.
