empty houses

i tryed the game a few months ago again. it was fun not many people. i got very frustrated with all the empty houses. i read something that they where gona remove them is that done yet

 What server did you play on, hard to give advice if you not tell what server, also every time you login you see the message of house demolation, the forums where full of info about that. It was prosponed many times but went live little over a month ago:

I still see empty houses, and there are a few left for demoltion tho i havn't found any to take down anymore the last month, this is because the houses who might be on accounts that where INGAME RICH will most likely conduct upkeep from those bankaccounts till they dry up. Another thing is maybe there more people that every now and then log into the game but still don't like it but continue to jump in every now and then to keep there stuff safe for a possible return one day.

hehe bit true i didn't quit understood why the frustration. But also relaxe dude if and say IF you ever decide to reactivate your account be happy as your deco-home will be there waiting for you in your datapad not on the spot you placed it but still it most likely be fully intact.
house demo was actualy pretty fun even tho i have seen on Chimeara which was my first home that all my buildings where gone, my first living area looked like a mini village but was all gone, same with parts of our City on Farstar Talus Crimson River also partial gone, but the city still intact...sort of

The houses that got tagged as Abandoned and allowed players to blow them up were accounts that had been inactive/cancelled as of April of 2006. It had nothing to do with how much maintenance was left in the house. There are condemned houses that are still in game but the Devs are discussing taking them out as well.

The reason players get upset about dead cities and empty houses is because it blocks other players from starting a city or getting their city to advance to a higher rank due to caps on the planets. Not sure why people get upset over their houses getting demolished by players when they are not losing anything, The house goes into a player's datapad including everything that was inside the house.

The irony of the house pack up thing is that much of it would not have been necessary if the SWG devs didnt' change the rules on house decay some two and a half or so years ago.

There was a time when if your maintenance ran out, in about a week the house would poof through decay.  Then they changed the rules so that the house remained indefinitely in the world without maintenance asa "condemned" structure.

Even with the new "blow up the house" rules, there are a lot of empty houses associated with characters that haven't been logged into in years, on station access accounts.  As long as SOE gets money, the houses will remain.

Okay...so I got a little miffed and my rant got deleted.

I apologize to the poster that I called an "asshat."

I still think I had a valid opinion though, whether or not I currently play the game or not.

Here's what people like you, Warblaze, don't seem to understand about SWG and why sites like this have to create special "SWG Veteran Refuge" forums...

SWG, while in the words of some is "just a game," belonged to us.  Our physical or legal property?  Of course not.  But does the game exist for those who legally own it?  No.  It was created, it exists for those who use it...we, the players, the community, the fans, the addicts.  You AND me.

Am I an addict?  Yes.  Did I love the game?  Yes.  Do I have a real life?  Yes...lol.  (I have a job, I go to a university, I have a girlfriend, a car, friends irl, etc.)  I still loved the game.  I still love the game that I used to play.  I loved the character that I created.  When the NGE came along and destroyed the world that I was enjoying with friends so much...when I knew that I could no longer stay.  I was sad.  I didn't cry like some said they did....but I was more than just a bit surprised at how close I got to it.  Laugh or jest if you will, but looking into my computer screen at my toon staring back at me post-NGE hurt.  It's as if he knew that I was going to leave.  I felt guilty...as if I had let him down.  In a way...the toon was me.  It was also like a pet, or dare I say, a child that I had reared.  I created him and brought him into the world of SWG.  I watched him run around with no clothes (Wookiee) and try killing womp rats with a dagger.  I watched him get knocked on his ass countless times and then I helped him back to his feet.  When he had wounds (pre-CU), I took him to the medical center to get healed.  Over a year did I develop my character... Proud of myself for finally unlocking Jedi, but more proud for him.  Yes....my toon....the fictional character that I created in a game.  If you don't understand, I'm sure others will.

I spent the last days saying goodbye to friends in-game.  I stayed in my house and tried to finish up decorating projects that I had planned for so long but never got around to.

What belonged to me and my friends was taken from us.  What we invested time, energy, money, and heart into was wrongly taken from us.  So you think that because I don't play anymore means that I can't rant a bit?  Other than here, in this thread, I don't recall "bitching and flaming" about anything.  I certainly didn't say in my deleted post "how SWG sucked after the NGE." as you claim.

I take no small measure of solstice from the belief that my toon still exists on a server somewhere at SOE.  I think about coming back a lot, but I question the decision to give money, time, energy, and heart back to those that showed me, my friends, and my toon so little respect or consideration.  If I found that he had been deleted....I don't know how sad I'd be.

Whether or not I play this game currently or not, I'm here talking about it because I care about it.  My toon is still my toon.  My house and all the stuff I acquired and painstakingly placed inside of it are still MINE.  Because YOU think I don't matter anymore means little, if anything at all.

Gindacca, I'd like to rest your nerves   If your house is packed up, neither it nor the contents inside it are destroyed.  Infact, everything inside it is kept intact, including the locations of where you placed everything.  The only thing that you won't have is the location that you originally placed it.  If you ever decide to return to the game, simply open your datapad and you'll see the deed to your house inside it.  Find a valid loaction for the house and drop it back down and voilla, you have your house back the way you left it

On the contrary, the Devs are looking into the issue of the rest of the houses.

As for them changing the rules about houses going poof once they decayed, there was the Katrina issue.

When someone blows your house up to get the badge it's packed up just as if you had manually done it, there's no difference between the two   Your stuff will still be as it was.
