PCGAMER magazine slated the game quite heavilly after they managed to play it, they said the graphics were very intence which lead to graphics lag on even top SLI and crossfire systems (this should be fixed by the release) also they slated the revolutionary combat system by saying it is to complex have 6 bottons which swings the sword in 6 different ways, they also mentioned after the film that practically destroyed any hope for conan's future films. is this just a way to pull the Conan out of the deep Sh*t that the film put it in?
I no this game is based on the books and not the film but its still the same story, and iv just got a bad taste in my mouth after the film.

What film are you referring to? If you have a link that would be great. Thanks.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
You've never seen the Conan movies featuring my esteemed Governator?
Ohhh. I thought we were still on E3 stuff. haha. My bad. Yeah, you should probably read a Conan book.
The game so far seems to be coming across as a bit too pubescent. But I've never read the Conan books, so that might be a good thing.

Conan the Destroyer is rubbish, but Conan the Barbarian is damn classic!
I have some concerns about combat myself, 6 buttons (combining up to 5 moves was it?). In the vids the char seems to be moving forward after every attack... so all the time moving and 6 buttons, you wont have time to enjoy yourself just 110% focus on movement+attack . I can see how this makes for sweet group pvp (at least for looks), but for pve combined with "supposedly choppy" movement and/or lag this can maybe be an issue? Any ideas?
Far as the key, I'm sure they can be mapped to a preferable spot. Or a game pad could be used, or a gaming keyboard like Z-board.
For PvE, i would probably just macro one or two good combos.
6 different attacks to use in a fight? Complex? Most mmo's have more than that, though they aren't swing1, swing2, etc.. they are named attacks/spells.. but you still have more than 6. If that's the only 'complexity' in the game then it's not going to be that great..
Please do read a bit about the game. That's the melee combat system that's been descriped. It also have manually aiming arrows and spells, "homing spell", spells that do AoE in a triangle ahead of you, and an all-new spellweaving weaving system, where you can combine spells for deadly results for either you or the enemy.
AoC is going to be more hectic and complex than other MMOs.
If it's a twitch combat system I'll definatly give it a try, thats for sure. Though the combat is not the only thing in mmo's that I look at for enjoyment.. for instance complexity of crafting, social mechanics (eve has a nice social system), etc. If the only complexity is combat related.. well I prefer fps for combat only games heh.. but thats personal opinion
Im reading the books and they are excellent. The game is based of Robert E Howards writings not anyone else who wrote conan. He created conan and right now u can get all the books for 15 a pop at barns n nobs or 10 from amazon i think. Its a three book series using the writings of his short stories and novels he wrote about conan.
Book 1 - The coming of Conan the Cimmerian
Book 2 - The bloody crown of Conan
Book 3 - The conquering sword of Conan
and the game starts from the story in book two the hour of the dragon. So happy reading for the few that feel this might be a good read.
could oyu please provide a quote or link of the source where it states the system they were running it on, what quality of grahpics they were running it on, what OS, and if it was DX10 or DX9? I really find the statement that it is too complex because of six buttons rediculous, unless you only have two fingers ofcourse, and they have no relation to the film at all, plus lag is due to beta, they are still inj technical beta, not gameplay beta, i doubt they have all their servers with maximum services without a flowing income for maintenance.

It isnt going to be more hectic (im sure ur meaning that in a negative way unless im mistaken), and yes its going to be more complex than pressing an auto-attack button and other special attack buttons that light up, it gives a more hands on experience in the combat and prevents people from being able to play while sleeping wiht autoattak on.
Also apparently if you can get out of the way of someone swinging their sword you will have successfully dodged their attack, where as in say WoW, someone swings and you are out of range you'll still get hit.
Mage classes get the ability to accidentally kill themselves if they screw up casting their spells.
Ranged fighting classes get to aim their arrows at targets, and there is no auto-fire such as the hunter in WoW. You must aim each arrow and put real use behind it.
Combat is much more complex and involved than standard MMOs.

untill the hackers hack the game and make there Macros. damn u hackers!!! then they can go afk once more =P
I think that might have been an old article. There are only 5 directional attacks currently in the game.

I highlighted the only problem with that comp I see. Microsoft may be forcing them to make it directx10 compatible, but it is also being made for XP. I'll guarantee the game will run smoother on XP than Vista. And that's not Funcom's fault.
And as I said, it's closed beta. Which means all systems are not running at 100% and optimization rarely get's done for any game before open beta.
Man I'm getting so tired of all these threads saying the game is gonna suck becaues of this or that or its not like waht i did before so it's gonna suck or whatever.
So instead of making some big post argueing against you i'm just gonna say yeah your right this game that none of have played and don't know how its really gonna work out is just gonna be horrible and your not gonna like so don't play it. That will just be one less person i have to fight for my quest kills and what not after release or filling up slots on the servers keeping me from getting int won't bother me at all if you don't like it and don't play.

If you can make macros, I won't play it!
I realize I don't have any basis of fact for my opinion, but I think that perhaps this game is going to challenge PC hardware quite severely and it really will run well only a box built within about a year of the release. (which is true of all cutting edge games when you think about it).
I think my old AGP based Dell laptop isn't going to cut the grade.... and I'll need to upgrade soon......
As for the great complexity of the combat, that was sort of the whole point right? To make a more interesting combat experience than current MMORPG's offer?

2.11 Will you be able to queue attacks?
Yes, you will be able to queue attacks, but only a few. When you make a strike, the game will put this into queue and perform it when your current strike is complete. So you can line up strikes, or attacks, if that is what you want. Or you can fight dynamically and perform strikes as they are completed. There will not be a macro system for the real-time combat.
Hope that helps.

First thing first this game looks great the vids look excellent and game play is something diffrent to the rest, but one thing that is annoying me is, if this game is cutting edge stuff and a next next gen game why would'nt it perform well on a next gen OS when the game is designed for windows Vista which funcom are making a big point of.Dont get me wrong id love this to topple the top games and be the number 1 MMO
WTF??
There are many MMOs with a very simple combat system that have been around for years. I dont like em.
Finally when we are to have a "complex" combat system......some begin to complain???
AoC is the beginning of how a MMO combat system should be
And if someone dont like it..go and play those damn point and click instead

I am currently reading The coming of Conan the Cimmerian , once I am done with this one, I am heading back to Barnes & Noble to get the 2nd and 3rd book. Excellent reading and the fact they are basing the game off Robert E. Howard's Conan is truly exciting. But yeah, if anyone is looking for a great read, pick those books up. ! So sad that Robert E. Howard's life was so short.
