Time for a level increase?

demcdemc Member Posts: 292

I started playing DAoC shortly before the SI expansion release. I hit the level cap of 50  in under 3 months. After the level cap ToA came out and I worked on ML for awhile but I played on CooP server so most of the ML stuff was not worth getting. I ran on keep raids to hit RR5. Eventually I got bored and quit for awhile and went to EQ2. I came back several times to play with friends but would find myself logging into an empty guild. I made alts until leveled them to the mid 40s at which time I kind of lost interest.

Several months ago I renewed my acount and got LoM. After a few weeks it was again like what do I do now? A few of my friends left for LOTRO and I followed.  I found LOTRO just as boring so I am thinking of reopening my account. I checked the guild and no one is playing now. I think maybe it is time for Mythic to raise the level cap and maybe, just maybe this will kick a little life back into the PvE side of things.

What do you think?

I would like a level increase, but considering most players are there for the RvR it probably will never happen.

Especially with WAR on the way, I don't think that there'll come major exansions for DAoC anymore

Well, DAOC is not meant to be a pure PvE game.  Maybe something like EQ would work for you because of the whole loosing levels when you die.  Increasing the level would only drive most people out of the game.  If you are on the co-op server, most of your problems are that you are playing on there.  (Maybe you are still playing too many long hours.  If you made 50 at release in 3 months, that is 13-14 hours a day you were playing).

Things to do for PvE, get to level 50, complete your epic quests, get to ML 10, complete artifact encounters, complete the champion quests, get to CL 10, finish the dragon campaigns.  That is a lot to do.  This is in addition to farming ToA areas, or Darkspire, and leveling alts.  How would adding another 10 levels make anything better?  Most people complained about having to do ToA and how slow that was, I do not think adding another 10 levels is going to go over well.  Another thing to consider is that if all you do is level, and you know what you are doing, you can get to 50 in 72 hours played now.  So things are designed to be fast paced.

And there are not going to be any more paid expansions, at least planned.  They moved their expansion team over to the live team and they are adding in free content on a weekly basis based about a long storyline.  They redo the current zones, add NPC, quests, etc.

LOL well I got in these DF groups and forget the time. Next thing I know it is 6 AM and time for work. One weekend we ran a 30 hour marathon. Over the Christmas holidays I had 2 weeks off. After hitting the level cap, I changed a lot because RL is important and I had neglected it to much so I started playing only 1 to 2 hours a day and sometimes none at all.

You mention EQ. I play EQ2 now. Have played EQ through 30 or so levels. The game is ok but just lacks something I can't seem to put a finger on. DAoC was the first MMO I played. Nothing seems to compare to the Hunter of DAoC.

What good is it to reach ML10? The skills you get are useless in PvE and the only skill I can see as a hunter is the port and you get that free now. ToA artifacts are so expensive to repair it is not worth the efforts to aquire them and the drops in Darkspire are better anyway. Darkspire was one intense place to play and I loved it but now with most of the guild gone and only ~100 players on it is tough to get something going.

I will point out that you never loose a level. Experience, yes you lose experience in PvE but not in PvP. If it was you loose a level  I be level 40 or so due to the number of deaths trying to solo grape mobs just for the kick of trying.

Kind of what I gathered was thet the team is moved.

edit. I Was going to keep it closed but wth may as well enjoy a bit of the game.  Just love the archer classes in this one.

Odd that you play a hunter which is essentially an RvR class . . .

Darkspire loot is not better than artifacts.  It might be that for a particular class and piece you will want to use Darkspire and not an Artifact, but that is based on your template and what artifact is available.  Artifacts do not need to be repaired and have for a year or two.  You do not loose levels in DAOC, but you do in EQ.  You can die and loose a huge amount of XP that drops you below level and in fact at the upper reaches would drop you levels.  In DAOC, you barely loose any XP for deaths anymore.

I don't think we will ever see a add to the lvl cap because they added alot more stuff u need to do beside worring about more lvling xp you have your Master Levels, Champ Lvls and Realm Rank I think that is more than enough for me. Beside that would just be more of a gap between your high RR players with the sliver spoon and the low rr players at the bottom. I just hope they do a good job on there new patch coming out 1.90 the revamp of the frontiers.

I'm glad you are enjoying DAoC even if it's only in a PvE capacity.  I believe that Camelot was billed as a primarily PvP game so I doubt they will make many changes in that retrospect.  They have how ever added the dragon quests and a story arc that I guess is ok, I haven't personally done much of it since my primary goal was RvR combat.

Just out of curiosity have you tried pvp in camelot?  For all you know, you might enjoy it.  It would open up a new aspect of the game for you and give you 12 realm ranks to work through.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I do have a vamp lot of fun and I resubed today btw and just enjoyed a 3 dragon raid. I kind of neglected tmy mauler maybe pick it up again.  After thinking about this a bit there is a lot left in the game. A lot more than I though..

I tried perc for awhile back in the early part of the game and was not real happy there. I went out in the frontiers and got killed a lot.  I move to CooP and found it more my play style. Lots of stuff to do BTW. Keep raids in PvE are mobs in the keeps to take. Some are easy and some are real tough. The dread seals dropped are turned in for RR points. In Agromon the mobs drop the seals too so it is possible to reach RR13 off the mob drops.

At one point in the game I think there were 3 hunters on Gaheris. Now since the archery update there are several dozen.

Loot in Catacombs drops with PvE only procs. My featherweight spear was droped in darkspire. It has a 100 heal proc on it and triggers 5% more in PvE. I had a bow that had health steal but since getting to CL5 I use the CL award bow with the legshot proc on it.  Artifacts do require repairs. I spent over a plat making repairs to Foolsbow, Sharkskin gloves (which I still wear) Sun belt (which I still wear) However if I can get more PvE stuff I want to drop the artifacts. One death in PvE is 300 glod in repairs!

Look at it this way - everyone wanted to hit lvl 50 to get into RvR ( before TOA, anyway...grrr  ).

Then you had to pick up your ML's to stay competitive.

    Then your champion levels.

This is why so many players jumped ship to the "classic" servers ( actually the no buffbot, no TOA servers, where did the concept of "classic" creep into that? )

Nobody wants to have to play a game for three to six months grinding to be competitive in RvR. That just squeezes the fun out of it.

We can't zerg if we're grinding pve xp....

I see your point and I agree it would be bad idea now.

I was just thinking the other day what if the game had more champion levels. It would be awesome.
