Safety in the Work Place = BS

<rant>

walking in from lunch today there was a wet floor sign in the hall because it was raining.  i laughed, moved it infront of my friend to make him stop walking, but then reached back around and moved it right back.  this "vpp safety leader" ( i.e. total vagina) saw me.  she then followed me up to my cube, lectured me, made me read a 72 page powerpoint about safety, and called my boss at home to tell him about it.  my boss is at home for 2 weeks because he just had a son, wtf. she also emailed the management about my lack of safety awareness.

it is also a referrable offence from these vpp tards to skip steps while going up or down, moving beyond a slow walk up the steps, and/or not holding the hand rails.

are you freaking serious!

You know.. typing while angry poses a serious health risk to your hands and wrists. I recommend you take a break and look on the bright side, there could have been no sign at all, and you could have fallen and sued the company for millions. Wait.. that would have been good wouldn't it?

Anyway, it's best not to let her get you down, it's part of the company's way of covering it's ass. Although.. she could seriously quit taking herself so seriously and chill out.

I got a demerit at work for trying to clear a drain.  I work at a Kroger (supermarket type deal) and I work in the dairy department.  a few times a week we have to spray down the floor of the cooler I work in and squeegy it...I used the spic and span shit to spray it down with...and after cleaning about half of the cooler I found out that the drain was flooding over...so I go and get the drano shit to pour down it after I tried manually removing the clog...probably the sickest thing i've ever done btw...after i've poured the drano, the new manager of the store comes up to me and was got all pissed at me, he was like " your pouring chemicals on top of chemicals, you can't do that you'll kill your self!"

I was like "if you know so much about chemistry why are you working at a fucking supermarket"

and now i have a demerit....

I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people

Actually, that drain story reminds me of something someone I knew did at Krogers. He mentioned that he had ended up doing some really crappy tasks there, not withstanding actually cleaning up shit, all over the bathroom, walls, ceiling. Everywhere. Wrap your mind around that kind of situation..

    I understand what you saying.

But think about the company point of view.

Do you know how many retard have sued companies because they slipped on the floor and there was no signage?

We had recently in UK a case of a man who slipped on "one single petal" in front of a flower shop, the judge awarded him 1.5 million sterling.

You understand that company don't want to lose millions over such silly things, therefore they make a big fuss out of health and safety.

It's a place of power, and for the average workplace...well just scan your co-workers some time. It's like an experiment with putting passive agressive souls in a compedative work force. Good stuff, this is why I mug children, less stress.

Good point, but then who are the judges who allow people to make huge amounts of money for their own stupidity and lack of self responsibility?

If people can sue for this kind of crap they will. If you break your leg by tripping over tree roots, who is to blame? The land owner? God? Mother nature?

Dont know about over there, but here in Australia what you did constitutes a breach of our workplace health and safety laws. You messed with safety equipment and thats a fineable offence.  Next time just leave it alone.  You got what you deserved.

Not trying to sound like a jackass, and i don't know wat a demerit is really. But it seems like your manager was justified in what he told you. Mixing chemicals you know nothing about is not a good idea, because for one, you know nothing about them. You'd be pretty surprised by the outcomes of doing something so simple (chemically speaking that is); i.e. boiling apricot pits causes cyanide to be released, and as you know cyanide is very very toxic. Also your manager could have gotten a chemical engineering degree fomr another country but couldn't find work, so he works in a supermarket. This might not be the case where you live, but in Canada, i've meet doctors, chemical engineers, and mechanical engineers working hard labour for $10/h.

OP, that vpp safety person is just insane. She probably hates you.

I would agree on the chemical part, it's pretty damn easy to turn a situation like that into a hazard for a lot of people. I mean, it's something like bleach+windex to make chlorine gas, imagine if something like that had happened.
