200+ and counting!

Hey I played WOW for years! It's a great game one of the best.

However I watched it change over the years played it since launch and now there are over 200 US servers alone.

When I first got into mmorpg's I considered the permonth cost to be acceptable because they have to support such a large amount of players on ONE SERVER hence the term massive players. However it seams like to me WOW has taken a diffrent path to create multiple servers and fill them up with bots and people who stand around major cities all day.

I would consider paying 15 bucks a month to play this game again however I want a massive multiplayer game not a slice of the massiveness that equals 1/200th of the whole thing. How about I pay only 1/200th of your monthly fee then that would be a square deal thats a little less than 8 cents!

So lets say I'm over the server thing and I'm playing WOW I can do pvp or pve both offer me the chance to get a mildly large group going (mabey after a hour or two of tells) and take on some kind of challenge that plays out like watching the same movie over and over and over again.Or I could so some solo'ing which suprisingly is the only time I can create some real chaos and do things the way I want to without regards to the consequences of a whipe.

These are all fun things I guess if your in the mood but these are all also things I can get from games that are free and do not have a monthly fee.

I think WOW is one of the best game for mmorpg but it's also the worst for server sharding.

With my experience outside a guild and major cities the game just feels emtpy and drab.

To be fair i think blizzard never hide the fact they would use low load per server route unlike say EQ2 which went with much higher load per server but at expense of having to use zoning to do this.

I am pretty sure if wow used zoning and had say 40 servers instead we would see complaints also.

Fact that the servers are littered with bots and gold spammers is just down to the popularity of the game nothing more

Yes I guess your right and I have met alot of people even tho there are so many servers. The game does have some awesome stuff in it and if you haven't played it yet you should try it out. I think other mmorpgs could learn a thing or two from WOW also in a few ways one you mentioned zoning. Also randomization of item stats ect. Also the game works really well runs smooth on a decent system and the animations and art are amazing. The game itself has gotten way better over time but it also is kind of strung out.
