I for one am not a very social person, but I like grouping and have raided alot in my days. Yes we know what MMO means and that it is a massively multiplayer world but you just cant take soloing content out of a game. I dont want to be stuck all day asking for people to join my group because I need to kill some elite mobs. This really got to me in LotR, soloing was quite fun but when it came to group quests it was very hard to find people to help me with the group quests. I like to group but sometimes I want to do my own thing, and like to be by my self and see what my class can do without the help of other players, I find that to be fun, I find it to be different than just grouping up and doing quests that way. I know I dont want to be dependent on other players in order to progress my character, I dont want to have to wait until peak time to get my quests done because when I can play there isnt enough people on, that just wouldnt work and would hurt the MMO if anything else.
This theory could work with games that have alot of players, if you play in a non peak time and there isnt enough players than how will you get your group activites done? Single player content in an MMO is a must I think but grouping should be more rewarding. For ex in WoW groupping is more rewarding, if you run heroic instances or raids or regular instances for that matter you will get better loot than soloing.

Yep okay. So you're saying people do seek the mmo formula(ie the progression/advancement) in a single-player game. (Maybe it could have like bots running around everywhere just to add that touch) Kidding, but do you understand what I'm getting at? (Sorry in answer to Sovrath)
Area84, you do seek to group but understandably grouping is too much a heavy and time-intensive task. Solo play should be in mmos, I don't dispute that at all. Although, if content was designed for two people over one -would that satisfy people who don't like the drawbacks of grouping?
Why the heck would you pay 15$ a month to play solo? The social aspect is what makes MMO's different from offline RPG's like elder scrolls. Why not just go play a game of football out in the backyard all by yourself?
But then.. this is MMORPG which means that probably the only reason most of you pay 15$ a month is to get live opponents to combat instead of AI.... I'm all for PvP, but the social aspect is what draws me to MMO's.
Because I want to damn it.
I earned it and I should be able to spend it as I please, thats why.
Why does someone else's playstyle bother so many people?
If you wan't to group or raid or stand in the middle of a city and dance naked, I don't care. You paid your 15 bucks and you deserve the right to play the game as you wish.

SO DO US SOLO PLAYERS.
Amen. I pay $15 a month for the OPTION to do whatever the hell I want, whether that's solo or group. I don't know why other people are so desperate to enforce their will on others. Not everyone can afford to make the time commitment necessary for most group work in MMORPGs. When I do have the time, it can be a lot of fun, but I'm not going to be penalized because I don't have consistent four hour chunks of time to devote to raiding and/or dungeon crawls. Anyone who has ever played a single person RPG knows there is a huge difference to soloing in a world that's alive and populated with other players rather than playing in the quiet predictability of the single player world.
I think MMO's need to have solo content for when it is needed or wanted, but solo'ing should not yield equal rewards to grouping.
What I'm saying is that since solo play is just as rewarding as group play, and group play takes more effort and puts you in danger if someone else makes a mistake....
most people simply solo most of the time rather then group.... which makes it hard to find a group unless you are working on a specific piece of group content that others are forced to group to complete....
The end result is that nowadays the majority of players solo through most of the game, and it makes the game play less like an MMO and more like an offline RPG with a chat room.
Solo content should be the secondary to group content... you should solo only when you cant or really dont want to group... not solo most of the time and group up only when you absolutely have to.
Discuss.
Unless you can guarantee me that I won't be waiting around with my thumb up my ass for hours waiting to get into a GOOD group, then kindly keep your opinions to yourself. I only group when I need to. Certain quests can't be solo'd and usually the rewards for those quests are better than the solo ones, at least thats how it is in WoW. Besides, once you get to max level most of the content is group based (ie. instances/raids).

I couldn't agree more, if I wanted to solo I'd play Oblivion.
Also, what people don't realize, the retort that people don't want to wait for groups is invalid... BECAUSE YOU ONLY HAVE TO WAIT FOR GROUPS IN A GAME WHERE EVERYONE SOLOES, IF EVERYONE (HAD TO) GROUP GETTING A GROUP WOULD BE DEAD EASY!!!!!
There I used caps so people will actually read it.
There are many rasons to solo, not so many to group IMO. Usually I am soloing to learn my class, keep all the loot and money for me:P, explore where I want to go; not where everyone else says I must go, am online for only a short time and have an agenda, not feeling very social, dead sick of being told how to play my alt by leets or noobs, it's my money and I will do what I want..lol. Somedays it's only one of those, others it's many or all.
I only group with my guild unless I see someone needs help and then I ask first.
Gaming is just that...a game. So play as you like and ignore the complaints of the many detractors out there. Staying off boards = less stress playing.
When I'm in a guild, I'll group now and then. I still very much enjoy soloing or having a duo with my husband or a friend. I don't much enjoy raiding groups or even big groups. I can be friendly and social even when I solo in a game. Everyone plays different and obviously enjoys what they do or they wouldn't bother subscribing to whatever it is they subscribe to. I don't much care if people don't understand why I solo, although I've explained it enough times on this board... along with tons of other people. I can certainly understand why people who group do so... it's how they are entertained. I, for one, am very glad that games such as EQ2 saw the light and fixed their game to supply people with both sorts of content. I don't begrudge anyone their game style.

Compare CoH/V which has solo and group content but also has the fastest rate of groups forming in any game I ever played with a game like FFXI which is basically all group content.
With FFXI you hear about people wasting 2-4 hours a night just waiting for 1 group or just plain logging off. In CoH/V you had to be doing something terribly wrong not to find a group in that game. Sorry you're logic is somewhat flawed IMHO especially in the light of games such as CoH/V which had a good mix of both types of content.
Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Heh, I solo lots in UO in the Despise dungeon. >:3 It's fun to slaughter them ettins and trolls, and earth elementals with blade spirits.
Or I polymorph into a chicken and chase people around the New Haven bank, making new players boggle.
