The fastest growing sector of the computer gaming market is Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMO). MMOs are huge interactive worlds where hundreds of thousands of people interact and work together or against one another to achieve goals. Blizzard’s "World of Warcraft" is one of the most successful MMOs to date with over 8 million monthly subscribers. The success of World of Warcraft plus other MMO's has helped grow the market to the point where diverse-themed content needs to be created to meet the growing demand, especially since players are emerging from many countries and seeking out fresh new experiences. "Frontier 1859" is a next-generation MMO proposal where the actions of player-characters can affect and change the world around them. Families may work together to build and run frontier Tribes and Towns. They will face the typical challenges of living in the wilderness, learning basic survival, and progressing into the social, entrepreneurial, political and military challenges the Emigrant Settlers and Native Americans were facing. When we test-polled our community in the "Funded by Gamers for Gamers" thread on our forums, 82% of community voters opted for a $25.00 "Boomtown Membership" as opposed to the $10.00 "Concord Coach Membership" or the $5.00 "Trail Buster Membership." Our community now reaches out Internationally. Even though Frontier 1859 is not yet funded, the project continues to garner new registered members, and receives some of the best feedback in the business. The next phase is to secure production financing, ramp up to full production staffing, and deliver the online world experience through the PC and other broadband-enabled devices.

im not a huge fan of the genre, but by god i have been waiting for a new "world" not just a combat grind like virtually everything else
This is the first I heard about F1859, definently different which may be a good thing. We already have Sci-Fi, High Fantasy, Medievel, and soon to have Pirates. Just caught the part where they are considering using the Bionetics Tree Nursery software to incorporate seasonal foliage changes.
I find it really annoying that your FAQ is buried in a required registration. Stopped me in my tracks and turned me off completely.
Of course everyone will opt for the highest costing membership. Why?
Everything else will be crap. It could be a really good game but with membership like that I doubt I would play.
i hope to be hearing a lot more about the development of this game soon.

I think Frontier 1859 will be the kind of game we are all looking for. F1859 will have alot unique features, such as global railroad crafting, permadeath, players who can infect world changes. I strongly can suggest anyone to visit the Frontier 1859 official website for more information regarding this western online multiplayer game!
Erm...Permadeath as in "Your 2 year old character accidentally dies because of lag and its forever gone?" Just *poof*? No thanks really. Diablo had it AS A CHOICE, this game wants to enforce it?
Permadeath? Bah.
Do yourself a favor, and visit the Frontier 1859 website before posted in this thread. If you would have done that, you know your post is nonsense. Thank you.
Where as SuN:ONLINE has over 4 million current paying subscribers in China and Taiwan and over 10 million registers users playing for free in Korea. With a release coming to EU in the near future numbers are said to increase 5-10 fold and when it hits the US its said to do 3-5 fold. And has a current record of 5-15 new subscribers in China and Taiwan a day. Along with about 20 to 30 a day in South Korea. The day facts are based off last months avg registered users.
LONG LIVE SuN
All other mmo's will stand and owe at which can not be see.
99.00001% of the time I dont know what im saying
99.99% of the time I know I spelled the word wrong or repeated a sentence.. I did it so you can better your grammar
100.00% of the time if to many people post after my post very mad ill most likely with a 5% chance saying something like ....""
100.00% of the time I lack sleep and magical things come out of my head and type my posts for me? Please yell at the magical things not me... I am but a puppet
I hate to say it, but this game has been around forever and it still isn't being developed or even funded. Don't get your hopes up.

I wrote my opinion based on information found on this topic, i didnt visit the site because i didnt care. As you say i did myself a favor now and visited the site......says nothing about permadeath, though i didnt look at the FAQ because it requires registration, kinda retarded if you ask me. Does this mean permadeath is a disinformation? You tell me, seems you're a pro for Frontier 1859.
Hi SephynMK,
If your still interested, an article entitled "Death & Causes" can be read here: Frontier 1859, Death & Causes
Thread necromancy is usually considered bad taste.
Thread necromancy is usually considered bad taste.
Not as bad as being a hater.
I hate the sin, not the sinner.
Perhaps it may be interesting to open it for Guest access. Would hate to have you running around "stopped in your tracks and turned off completely." ( gosh darn high maintenance lurkers)
I have more hope for Wild West Online. http://www.wildwestonline.com/index.php
Wild West Online has actual concept art and some 3D environments built. Frontier 1859 is promoting armature video and stock photos of real scenery as concept art.
Wild West Online: http://www.wildwestonline.com/gunfighter.php
Frontier 1859: http://frontier1859.com/mmorpg/frontier-1859-news/new-gui-concept-art.html
Look at both of the sites and judge for yourselves, which Western MMO is more likely to succeed.
I wish F1859 well, but there is more substance to Wild West Online.
"Don't corpse-camp that idea. Its never gonna rez"
Bladezz (The Guild)
Cool! Nice to see that they finally updated their site. It's good to see some persistence there as well!
i'm not judging based on either site, i wish the two of them the best of luck, and i'll be keeping an eye on both of them over the up coming years.

Honestly these days that ain't saying much... computer gaming market... It's dead. I don't think I've ever seen it looking so pathetic and beaten down by console gaming.
This has been said year after year. And year after year the computer gaming market grows steadily with more revenue than the year before. Same old chicken little routine.
I think a re-review of the listing of the engines is in order. Either they are too expensive for an Indie Start-up or of the latest code that doesn't support MMO at this time. There are some affordable engines available to get ball rolling. Got to start somewhere, but not from nothing to the best type of engines right away.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
