You get the feeling English PW will screw us over?

I've seen this on a few other games, they would be Chinese or Korean games that would be free to play then come over to English and be pay to play. What are the chances it'll happen with Perfect World?

The English international version that is now coming out on the Malaysian servers was already confirmed to be f2p.

As for the US/Euro servers that are coming later I don't see why it would be any different, but who knows ?

Can you name me a few ?

And I am pretty sure that PW is free to play because the game is designed  for Item mall Marketting. You can prove that I am wrong by naming a few subscription games which sell items to players.

There is a P2P version of PW. But that one is only for the mainland chinese server and the others are F2P. From what I heard the P2P PW has a few added features like clothe dye but essentially isn't different in gameplay from the F2P one.  Whether the NA version will be the F2P or P2P version is still unknown. But judging from the success of the other servers it would attract more american players if it was F2P.

I'd rather have a p2p game... I think in a f2p game I'd either spend more money a month than a subscription - or I'd spend no money and always feel like I was at a disadvantage. Kinda a loose-loose situation for me. But I guess I'll try PW anyway. =)

and yea, I am wrong :D

F2p games will make sure that players who buy stuff will have ALOT of advantage. So if you wanna compete with ppl , you have to buy. I dont mean that you cannot play well without buying but still, money talks.

And sometimes, F2p games cost ppl more than they think. 15 bucks a moth, everyone on the same lv ( regardless of buying stuff from unofficial websites ). F2p, if you wanna be on the same lv with hardcore player, you prolly have to pay more than 15 bucks a month.

Your life is pretty much in hell without buying the healing amulet in PW. I have experienced this on Vietnamese server. But if you  try hard enough , there still be a  way out .

my understanding is that you can only buy items that affect how your char looks, not make them stronger.

    read this on the wiki.

Really depends if what they put for sale through item shop. I have seen a few f2p with item shop that sells items that improve your character drastically. As there are also items shops that only sells cosmetic items. I don't know what sort of item shop PW has, but mostly items in item shops will be different when the European and American servers are launched.

And for the guy that says that f2p aren't launched as p2p over here I would say look at RF Online, The Sword of the New world (most recent), Cabal Online and I'm sure if I look around I'll find even more. However how long they will stay in that patern I can't tell. As RF Online is going f2p, Cabal Online already did. So it could perfectly happen that PW is launched as p2p and in a later phase go f2p. All depends on how much the programmers want to put work in it.

From the Perfect World wiki FAQ:

    I hear this game is F2P !?

    - Yes it is, however there is a kind of an "Item Mall" where you can buy "no gameplay critical items", like better mounts, fireworks, beautiful social clothing and more... ! But you can't buy any better weapons or armors in this shop (!!)!

    What is this item mall?

    - The item mall is an ingame store where you can buy some non critical items for real money!

What kind of items will be sold in this Item Mall

    - Faster Mounts/flying Swords

    - A specific items for stat reset

    - Tickets to change character appearance

    - Teleport

    - Crafting materials

    - Mass Broadcast

    - Customized Fireworks (with message text)- Formal wear

    - Most of the items in the item mall are consumables!

RF, Granado Espada, and Cabal were all P2P originally. It was only fairly recently that these games are going F2P probably because they lost subscribers. Perfect World has always been known to be F2P in any version to date. It was designed that way. Its only in china that they have a special P2P version. Though its really up to the developers which version they'll allow the NA  publisher to get. But judging by the trend most likely NA version would be F2P as well.

There is "0" chance that it will be Pay2Play, simply because they make more money by adding a Pay Shop into the game.

Yes, but will it stay that way? Over time I think Devs will see how popular the game is and put weapons, armor, exp potions etc. But for the people that get in while the current item mall is in place then it wont matter for the vets when that time comes. So basically get in the game before this happens and laugh at the noobs that spend $$ for exp.
