is LOTRO any good?

I played the beta and didn't really like it.   It was pretty laggy and the animations were kinda shitty.  Has it changed any?

My personal opinion and this is all i'm going to say because if I say anything else I get WARNED by MMORPG Forum Moderators....

Nope not worth it.  Why?  Because I think it's boring, dull, really doesn't capture my interest so I quit playing.

It's very balanced and the graphics are just amazing. I think most players disdain this game due to the fact that it didn't really bring anything new to the plate "current MMORPGs". It does have a really neat Deeds system where you learn new abilities for completing certain checkpoints in your development. I quit playing after a couple weeks only because I have played this game before in past games like WoW and Guild Wars.

I came from Star Wars Galaxies, so my standards are a little different than just your slash and quest type game. It's definitely better than WoW, I will say that...LoTRO just didn't hold me for very long since I've done it all before.

Played the Beta and stayed on for the release. Still playing it now. I like it a lot. But with all things, just gonna have to try it again if you wanna know if you might like it now ^^

I like this game to lots of fun. But Im already playing to many games so im saving my free 30days for when im ready for it. But the music system in that game held my attention for hours at a time. playing twinkle twinkle little star is so much fun on  a flute hah.

I also beta tested it.  I think that it was made to really appeal to Tolkien fans.  I read the books years ago, so I'm sure I missed some lore reference many times that a die-hard fan would instantly get.  Basically it's the same ol' fantasy themed MMOG we have out now, nothing really new underneath the pretty graphics.

They do not have the movie license, so I think a lot of people were disappointed thinking it would have voice overs or something relating to the movies themselves.

It depends on when you beta'd it. Early beta was sorta bland and boring. Late beta was much more immersive and interesting. Tweaks and ambient music can do that :)

Still not as "exciting" as playing WoW, but definitely a solid and well-constructed game. Worth a looksee if you haven't played since beta.

As far as I could see during my free days,
the game is quite the same as it was in the last days of beta

However there's not much lag around anymore and it is improving.

So, if you liked it 'kinda' before, you'll most likely like it even more now.

While I did NOT enjoy it, that was more within my own distaste for MMos based on old stories and such.

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

Sure its good, and lots of folks are enjoying it.  Me, I left after a few months.... was too much of the same for me (yet another pve fantasy /raid game, but for those who aren't quite so jaded.... its a good game.

tbh the game just lacks anything to draw me in. Theres alot of grinding, once you have done the first area of any race, every other area after it has exactly the same quests etc.

The game feels so much like world of warcraft as well, its not even funny, you just level, and think i have done this all before why pay to do it all again with a different setting?

If you are new to mmos or an avid lord of the rings fan or even a roleplayer you will probably enjoy the game a lot. Its just nothing new to me.

its a shame its on my shelf at the moment, and i only played it for little over 2 weeks, and that was just to give it a chance lol done the same with guild wars wish you could trade in pc games ;/

If lag and bad animations were the things putting you off I think you should try it again. As was said, they have a 3 day trial these days. It's not really my kind of MMOG, but they appear to have caught the vested interest of many players. Gotta be a reason for that. :)

I've played a few days into it on a buddy key account. I'm a  level 17 Minstrel now, and I've to say it's been pretty fun so far. Echoing what others have said, some quests do feel a bit repetitive and also, the quests aren't eventually distributed. Some areas have quests which span a huge level range, while at times, I simply can't find anything to do, though I'll usually pick another up by just roaming about (which I happen to do a lot). Also, the scripted instances are pretty fun. Certain tradeskills (the farmer I am) was a tad boring.

Performance wise, I think it's pretty optimized and runs on my system (A64 X2 3800+, 2GB Ram, 7800GT) like a charm on relatively high settings. I haven't encountered any lag of any sorts. I don't really know what you refer to by 'shitty animations', but compared to EQ2 with high partical details on, it does feel inferior. It is however, smooth.

after spending 100$ on this game and getting to lvl 15 man captin, and playing pvmp with my monster and exploring all i could of the higher lvl areas with my low lvl ... i would rather play wow again... and i only got ti lvl 30 in wow..

i did sum rpin but that was retarded as hell and the music system is diffrent.. but the quests r all the same.. imho .. not worth my 100$..
