Awesome time to play SWG -- And fly TIEs with us.

If you're like me and heard all kinds of bad crap about SWG years ago and never picked it up as a result, PLAY IT. It's an awesome game. If you play a pilot, it has a ton of realistic combat action -- not the WOW/EQ "press the button, watch them swing..." combat -- shooter-style combat, where you actually dogfight, and level while you do it.

And it has player-oriented content that only next-generation 3D MMORPGs like Age of Conan and Pirates of the Burning Sea are latching onto. The ground interface and travel are a little clunky, which is unfortunate, but those are some of the only things holding this game back. What's more, you get to goof around in the Star Wars universe. How cool is that??

We have a TIE fighter guild called ONYX on the Chilastra server. We're all members of the Empire's Storm Squadron and we all fly TIE fighters. If you want to play SWG as a pilot, shoot me an e-mail at bpharris9014@gmail.com or contact Nanoo Buchachee in-game. We can get you levelled and set up quickly, and we have a cool guild hall on Corellia.

oh wow, playing with space ships and shooting with lasers,  how exciting :)

have you ever considerered that the majority of todays kids HATE star wars, or even never watched any of the movies ? I dont know if its just me, but everyone I know hates star wars...

none of them would enjoy beeing han solo or princess leia, simply because they dont like star wars...

I cant say that I hate the movies as well, but I begun to watch the movies after I started to play pre-cu star wars galaxies.. I loved the possibilities I had ingame and it was overwhelming and I never had so much fun in any game I ever played.. I was my own hero and never thought about the movies while I played pre-cu swg...

I played the game because of the game itself and not because of the 30 year old movies...

Star wars was ok for its time but we have moved on now and its threadbare plotlines dont hold the same appeal as they once did [tho Darth is still good].

You must be living in a cave. I hear bad stuff about SWG today, yesterday, and I will tomorrow. Just check the SWG forums.

well my friend, there are not enough star wars fans who play computergames...

there might be some 30 - 60 years old hardcore star wars fans out there, but they dont play computergames...

pre-cu star wars subscribers up to 450.000 were the best that could ever happen to SOE and thats something thats got to get into sony online entertainements mind...

there are not enough star wars fans who play computergames to make a title be successful only because of the brand...

    plain and simple...

and now think about the stupidity that  the SOE management made with the NGE:

in case to expand the existing game style pre-cu star wars galaxies had, they made the game more star warsy and were willing to sacrifice their excisting playerbase... instead of making the game less starwarsy and more complex, they made exactly the opposite and failed in a horrific way...

its a great example of incompetence of a management and the failure to realise what your customers really want..

Well considering how disappointing the prequel trilogy was (wtf lucas, midi-frikkin-clorians), Star Wars has really fallen off people's minds.  Of course the new console game, The Force Unleashed, may rev up some interest if the game lives up to its potential.  When you have a game based off a movie series in which the last 3 movies were collectivelly rather "bleh", surely not going to help your sub numbers.

I never played "old" SWG, when I tried the 14-day trial it was already after the CU and NGE.  It was ok, if not for the random crashes to desktop I may have considered subscribing.  No error window, just play for a while then *poof * I'm at destkop.  SOE tech support at it's finest as I got 3 emails that all were word-for-word exactly the same thing (telling me to do things I already stated I had tried).

Not the worst game I've ever played to be sure.  Could use some work though.

Flying in space and dogfighting were my two favorite things about SWG when I tried the recent trial. Unfortunately, I didn't like anything else.

    Yeah, JTL is good.

But not good enough to re-sub to the horrible core game.

As far s NGE goes I did not like it and stopped playing SWG. HOWEVER...

I think the comments about the lack of a fan base are off. My son, who is 4, loves Star Wars. As far as a lack Star Wars players, the Lego Star Wars games were a huge hit. On console and the PC  Even Empires at War  (PC) did well enough to make an add on for it. I don't think Force Unleashed is being developed to revitalize the IP I think it is because there is still a strong base for a game to sell well.

Also, there are TWO shows in the works for Star Wars for TV at the moment.

I also saw the Star Wars 30th on G4 and it looked to be a pretty big event.

Lastly, why are some of you slamming this guy. He is not trolling and simply feels it is a good time to play SWG. I don't want to play it but he likes it and all of this is subjective. I love this site but sometimes the flaming that goes on here is over the top. Anonymity makes it easy to be nasty.

I think people who are 30+ who are Star Wars fans look at the films with a nostalgia and respect for how they revolutionized movie making at the time, but have little interest in immersing themselves in a world that was geared towards them when they were in grammar school. Sure I loved Star Wars as a kid. I also loved Saturday morning cartoons and wearing underoos. I can't speak for people who grew up with the "new" Star Wars trilogy, but as a cranky grown-up, Episodes I-III offered nothing plot-wise or effects-wise that make them stand out against any other big budget, big studio, effects-laden film.

This doesn't make them BAD, just not the pop culture phenomenon that Lucas' first three movies were. Anyone who was a kid in the late seventies/early eighties cannot deny the impact these movies had on suburban culture whether you liked the films or not. And Lucas Studios revolutionary contributions to special effects are still felt in the film industry today--but Star Wars is no more a selling point for me than is G.I. Joe, the Rubik's Cube, or Cabbage Patch Kids.

Apologies to the OP, this has nothing to do with your post. I hope you find people to join your guild.

L O L    You sir... well let's just say, I seriously question your competence in doing anything other than breathing.

I hate football, everyone I know hates football, therefore the majority of today's kids hate football - football must suck and all football video games are destined to die a long, tortuous death!

Yeah, that's about on par with your retarded statement.

Oh, by the way, what was the point of your post? I was kinda wanting to actually respond to it, but I couldn't figure out what the heck you were saying other than "Star Wars sucks! Everyone hates Star Wars!" and later, "Only old people like Star Wars and they don't even play video games!"

P.S. I wasn't even born when the original Star Wars were released and I like Star Wars - a lot. Plus, I play video games! ::GASP:: (although I never played SWG, because my previous experience with Star Wars games were nothing more than FPS, which I hate.)

I think the problem with SWG for alot of people who use to play it is the fact that they revamped a completely unique sandbox game, into standard rpg-style mmo, of which their are tons of other mmo's like it, aside from the sci fi setting.

Most of us moved on after the revamp, you couldnt "live the life" in swg anymore, nor do you have the freedom to expand your character the way you wanted now that they've added in classes.

Maybe if you didnt play the game before the revamp or if you just didnt like Pre-cu, you'll like it now, but alot of us have abandoned the game im afraid.

  • METALDRAG0NMETALDRAG0N Member Posts: 1,680

OK OP first of all you must understand that  alot of people got burnt when this NGE thing came out and so from that those here who hasant playe this game ahs heard  a lot of horror stories concerning NGE. So posting something like you did will only bring about flames and trolls. Defending your post will only encourage them too. It will be a long time till more people trust STO again and most likely those that come to STO are those who have never palyed it before.

I admit i am curious and 2 days ago i downloaded the loader for the free trial and im still downloading it after 2 days  i make no promosis as there are certain things im after in a game but im at least willing to give this one a chance at least.

OP:  In the future, do not bother posting anything to do with SWG on this site other than in the SWG Current forum.

They come out of the woodwork and thrive on displaying their unhealthy obsession with the 'demise' of SWG and how butthurt they still are about it.    Even though the 100,000th person before them said the same same SAME thing they just did, they still need to hear themselves speak like it matters or something.

Anyways, OP, just re-post in SWG Current.

    oh yeah :)

when half of a million people complain about something for over 2 years, then there cant be something wrong right ? :)

if you walk through your life accepting everything without complaining and simply thinking "hey, its over lets just forget about it" then you make the same mistakes again and think "hey, its over lets just forget about it" over and over again and learn nothing from them...

swg veterans have to tell their experiences over and over again to let everyone else know what went wrong... other companies can learn from that and in the end its for all gamers benefit...

I love these boards, simply because everyone has the right to speak and tell their stories

and if you guys call me retarted, then its okay with me, because I know I got at least 250.000 other idiots who feel just like me

Star Wars has a huge adult and child fan base (although they tend to split loyalties between the OT and prequels, repsectively) but the fact is that there are a lot of Star Wars activities out there for fans.  Other games, tons of books, pen-and-paper, the 501st for the cosplayers out there, etc.  A mediocre MMORPG that takes a huge dump all over the canon of the Star Wars universe isn't really appealing to most of them.

Given the total sellout of canon in that game I'm convinced you have to NOT be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it.
