Why does everyone think WoW will die when WAR comes out? These are two totaly different games. Lets compair the games

WAR - PVP is everything all the best gear is from PVP

WoW - PVE is everything all the best gear is from PVE

WAR - Can level doing just PVP - PVE or combination of both

WoW - Can only level from PVE

WAR - Kill stuff find the right guy get rewarded

WoW - Kill stuff find the right guy get a quest for the things you just killed go back and kill them again

WAR - Instanced PVP - World PVP - and eventually control of enemies capital city

WoW - Instanced PVP - World PVP is to little and far between - Arena (joke)

WAR - Public quests - Quests where everyone helps to complete for a huge PVP effort

WoW - You release such a monster never seen before kill it and next guy does the same

Having not played WAR yet but I will play from day one I can say I am looking forward to it coming out. Having 2 accounts in WoW leveled to 60 before TBC and 70 after really got boring for me. I work 50 hours a week and am a parent. I dont have 4 hours a night to spend raiding just so I can PVP at end game. WAR (supposedly) is going to be more for the casual gamer that plays 1 hour a night and for the hardcore that do 10 + a day.

WoW subs have rising from day 1, why cant they keep on rising?
Is WoW doomed? With games like AoC coming out with a new revolutionary combat system and DX10 Graphics, are they doomed? Warhammer has a large fan base, and their beta has 300,000 people signed up, the largest yet in gaming. And yes, their are other games coming out like Darkfall and Fury and such, but those stick out most significantly.
Revolutionary LOL, its close ya eyes and hope you hit something.. nothing else. and DX10 will just mean less people cna play it.
Blizzard has about 20 million players on BNET I think that out scores WARs fan base by a long shot. Can you give me a link that 300,000 is the larget beta signup ever.. I bet WoW had more.
Will WoW lose a large playerbase after AoC and WAR come out? Thats the question of the day.
Wont lose any AoC (it will flop) but I'm sure some will go to WAR as the transition between the 2 games will be easy. I for 1 will be checking out WAR.

More Than 300,000 Sign Up for Beta Test of EA's Highly-Anticipated Massively-Multiplayer Online Game

EA Mythic today announced that more than 300,000 players have signed up for the Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) closed beta test. In little more than a month, EA Mythic's highly-anticipated Warhammer Online has amassed a growing army of willing participants in Europe and North America, making the beta one of the most popular in massively multiplayer gaming history.

WoW did not have more beta Sign ups.. They may have had more in beta but not people signing up for close beta.

WoW had 500,000 for just the Stress Test periods. And I don't recall LoTRO getting 1,000,000 for their beta. They had a lot, but I can't find any link that talks about numbers, nor do I recall it appearing on the beta boards.

    Also, food for thought:

And here it goes. People proclaiming their grind as better then someone else's. Gamers are no longer sociable so if they get a game where they have to party in oder to play they're not going to like it. Its been proven time and time again "Learning curves" are disliked by casuals. So any game that has zero to none on either department will be an instant hit. Which is sad. But one thing still remains. The grind, so its like paying to play a game that other people just so happen to play as well. Which is more true then others want to believe.

I personally just can't wait for a true social game. I just hope AoC or WAR will be that and not filled with the uber 1337zorz.

Social games are dead imo. Lets face it WoW did one thing and they did it well and thats kill the MMO. Hell they lowered their raids from 40 people to 25 because they couldnt find 40 people to raid with. I remember being in EQ and having to try and write down by hand all 72 people in the raid. Thank god for raid tools huh.

If you define "social game" the way John Smedley did when implying they were dead, you're basically saying "grinds with undefined endgames and housing" are dead. I pretty much agree with that. Nobody's going to make another UO nor pre-NGE SWG.

But if you define "social game" the way the industry does, those are growing faster than even the spike WoW brought to the hardcore gamer scene.

And make no mistake about it. WoW is a hardcore game, when compared to games considered truly casual. We're not talking Guild Wars vs WoW. We're talking Bejeweled. WoW requires more of the average game player than anything outside this genre. It just requires a lot less of typical MMORPG players, the folks who were writing 72 names by hand, for example

The reason WoW was and is so successful is very easy to see.  It is all about Instant gratification, in the US and world wide, we as a people want everything now.  We dont want to wait, we want it now.  That is what WoW gives us and that is why it has 9 million* players.    Look around your everyday Life, Cell phones with a music player, fast food on every corner, Starbucks on the other corner.  It is amazing to see how our life has changed so quickly,  We never stop and smell the flowers or write a letter to friends or family.  Everything is moving at the speed of light and that is the way we like it....  If something is going to take to long we say screw it lets get it on online.   Look at renting Movies,  Go online, pick the ones you want and boom in your mail, send it back and you get another one the next day.  I am only 25 years old but I have seen the world change so much in my 25 years.   Maybe its just me but I love the old days of MMO's, were you had to figure things out, their were no websites with a complete walkthough on each quest.  I remember asking in guild if anyone knew where X was because I have been looking for over 3 hours and have not found it.  Then someone helping me find it....  WoW is not a hardcore game, Yes it is more hardcore the lets say Mario Bro's but nobody things Mario Bro's is hardcore.  Games like EQ1, DAOC, UO and the like are Hardcore games, yes they are a time sink.  But what I can understand is why do "Gamers" want to beat a game in a Day?  Dont you want to extand that playing time, games that are too easy to beat become boring to most Gamers, Hardcore or casual.  We are all gamers, I beleive that we all want the samething.   We want a game that allows us to effect the world we play in, with 2 hours or 10 hours.   It should not matter how much time, but how you use your time.

    Sorry for the long post.

This is my my Opinion and it maybe , but ask your self.  Is it worth the Instant gratification or is working for what you want better?

When in doubt raise your size and dont use paragraphs.

WoW was a great game for a while then the issues arose. IE class balancing (yes I know its easier to nerf everyone then to buff those that need it) raids that get boring, No sence of comunity (Guilds in wow are like high school clicks if your not one your out) PVP imbalanced (must raid PVE to be good at PVP lolwut?)

Will I play it again before WAR comes out? Maybe. As of right now both my accounts end on the 13th and I dont plan on playing again.

WoW was a lot of fun. But ultimately, like any game, you will grow bored and look for the next big thing. Sic in transit gloria mundi!

WoW will never die, why? Because WoW is Satan, and Satan is immortal. Touch a WoW disc with a Cross and watch it burst into flames and turn to dust.

WAR will probably take out a big chunk of it's players because it already has a large fanbase from the tabletop games who will almost certainly buy the game. I signed up for the beta (and played it at a friend's house) and it seems great. WoW consumed my life for a few months and I managed to get hooked on other MMOs to save myself.

WoW will die slowly of old age WAR is a carebear game the RvR is a option so no ganking or even entering the other sides areas unless you fight and take em over but then you can't kill em for fun =(

and AoC couldn't kill D&D online

If you have any knowledge of what AOC is offering, you will take back your words. Its a game where crafters really will be put into good use. Read it on the AOC forum, just a click away dude...

My bet is AoC will be far too hungry on system resources. Microsoft is pushing it to showcase their new technology, and that will hurt the game. Hence AoC will probably get a few hundred thousand avid players, but will never really take off (cf EQ2)

WhO will do better, and will take players from WoW. Maybe it will get up to a million or so. But WoW will still be in a strong position.

yeah i love soe and i really dilike WoW but i can guarentee that unless something huge happens to Vanguard its not going to be going anywhere anytime soon. And if WoW had something to do other than RAID all the time it might just be one of the best MMO's out there but EQ2 still has my vote because there's Soloing, grouping, raiding (grouping, raiding OPTIONAL!) but then again SoE did basically make MMo's stand out in the world and that basically all other games are just clones of it..yes that means you too WoW.and dont try to deny it either fanboys

You do know they released a expansion and tons of ppl threw a fit cause raiding is no longer needed or even desireable ?

Hate to tell you this.. SOE copied WoW, not with evercamp series . with SWG. Just so you know the one decent SOE game was ruined and made into a wow clone. as far as Evecamp, nah tehre orgianl and orginally Boring . If you love Evercamp that much , your in luck they have there own forum for you to go talk about your blissfully mudane game is with its dull gfx
