I would stick with PC+windows for gaming.. sure macs are just as powerful but they cost tons and look funny...
As for linux being the best OS... umm no sure its quick.. but it aint user friendly and it looks silly.
Last tiem I installed Linux all i can remember about it was trying to get my video card to work.. i downloaded the linux drivers for it and guess what nope dont work.. i had to edit about three different files to get it working.. and getting games to run on linux is just hell..

No linux is not a viable option for any gamer..
I think most people would agree.
macs= media
Window = games , runing progs.
Linux = anyhting that need stability, ie great for servers.
PS you can use both well via bootcamp (still a few issues) . But here is the real question ... WHY? If your just writing papers /internet with the mac buy a cheap/old one and bingo you'll have that, and geta gaming comp PC with windows installed for gaming i mean after all it will be cheaper and run as well if not better. I mean if your gettign a mac to run Windows ... whats the point.

I have to say that I am an avid Mac user and am currently using a (now) old machine for all of my composing and art needs. I prefer the interface as well as the ease that I can troubleshoot technical issues.
Having said that, there aren't as many video games for mac. This is not really a problem as I don't need "every" game there is. Where the problem comes into being is that the games I want to play aren't made for mac.
I could go the route of buying a new machine and using Boot Camp but quite frankly that is a far more costly option because I would have to upgrade some of my software to intel mac architecture and in the end, I just don't needa new mac. It works perfectly.
I have a windows machine that I use exclusively for gaming. I can upgrade parts when I need and it generally works well.
Essentially my pc is a very expensive and updradable X-Box.
As far as using machines. You know, people can try to persuade each other that "x" machine is better than "y" machine, but in the end it all falls down to preference and what one person condiers ease of use.

I work in the industry and I use PC's. Mostly because when they start to age they become test boxes on my home domain.
