2 questions about eq2

Lionking-CyaLionking-Cya Member Posts: 18

Since i'm starting to get interested in this game, maybe i'll start to play it with the next expansion. So i wanted to ask, how long does it take to get to the actual lvl cap? What about a hardcore player and an average one?

And what about religion? Is that something a player has to take, or just something that just fits in the lore, and doesn't involve decisions of the player?

And do you think this game is REALLY good? Otherwhise i'd play another game, or keep playing lotro.

A living creature that has stopped evolving is not worth existing.

Well the level cap is not that hard to get so no problems with that.

Well now religion you don't have to take per se. The gods have abandoned Norrath as far as they know, but there are a crapload of quests in the game considering the matter and what stance you keep about it.

Well if you compare it to LOTR i think EQ2 wins hands down, more classes, fun quests, crafting systems and character advancement.

it can take some time to get to the top levels..

When i played i was a casual player.. maybe 6 hours a week somthing like that.. sometimes a bit more...

took me abotu a year to get to lvl 53.. tho im sure if you played a lot more than i did you could get there much faster... sometimes i went weeks without playing thats how casual i was..

No religion in game at the moment as far as i know.. (no i lied there is now since the last exp pack) looks like you get different traits depending what god you go for..

Anyway I think this has to be one of if not the best mmorpg out there at the moment.. it has so much to offer.

Do u loose exp if you die?

And so am i forced to choose a god to be competitive? Cause if there is religion, i will NOT play this game.

There is no religion in EQ except in the sense of mythological pantheons.  It's more like a pick your favorite Greek, Egyptian or Norse god(ess), although EQ's pantheon is unique and truly fictional.  If you do not wish to pledge your avatar (not yourself) to any of the "gods," then don't.  It won't hurt your character's ability to function.

Reaching the level cap can be easily done or can take a long time. I've played off and on for about 2 and a half years and finally got my main character to 70. I don't play a whole lot, and I know folks that play more often that have 2 or 3 maxed out characters. I just can't get myself to sit at a computer playing an MMO for more than 4 to 6 hours a week.

You do no lose exp when you die. Rather, you accrue exp. debt that you must pay off. I think it takes half the exp you earn and pays the debt and you keep the other half until the debt is gone, at which point you start earning exp normally again. I think per death you gain .5% debt which takes very little time to pay off (completing a quest usually will take care of it).

There is religions in this game, but they aren't required or even necessary to the game in anyway. You can get favors from your god if you do quests for them or give them items. So far I have done nothing with these and am getting along just fine in the game, so if you want to ignore them, you're more than welcome to. I know I've heard stories of PvP servers using these favors to dominate the competition, but on the PvE servers religion and choosing a god to follow isn't at all something to worry about. So don't let that deter you from trying the game.

I consider EQ 2 my favorite game.  I started playing MMORPGs years and years ago with text-based, UO, and EQ 1.

EQ 2 for me is the most well done for things that I like.

Are you against the actual game mechanic of being competitive?  Or are you against religion because it's against your beliefs in real life?  I'm a little confused here.

just a bit about religion in eq2. It is based on the pantheon of everquest but the gods abandoned the world in the time between originaly Everquest  and Everquest 2. But recently 8 of these gods ( Mithaniel Marr, Tunare, Quellious, Rallos Zek, Cazik-Thule, Innoruuk, Brell Serillis and Solusek Ro) returned and are influencing the world again.

As a player you have the choice to worship one of them, there is a series of quests that allows you to build some favor with your god. You can spend that favor on miracles but once you are done with the quests the only way to regai favor is to sacrifice items to the god (the better the item the more favor you get for it). These miracles can be a big help but you cannot use them allway.
