I'm sorry to break it to all the WoW kiddies that lost their mmo virginity when WoW was released but.....WAR is not a rip off WoW. In fact I think Blizz could have a made a bigger killing if they copied some of the pvp ideas Mythic used in DaoC. I think the biggest thing WAR and WoW have in common are the graphics but I give WAR the ribbon for making your character change over time as you lvl. I've played both WoW and DaoC since release and have seen both get better and worst. What sets the two games apart is the audience its geared towards. WoW, in my opinion is geared more toward those that enjoy raids and PvE. DaoC is geared more towards solo and team pvp/rvr with a touch of pve/raid thrown in there.
In all honesty though ,unless you've actually played DaoC its kinda hard to say to make a comparison about a game made by the same company just because the only game you know is WoW. Do yourself a favor and go D/L the 14 day free trial http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/ and play the game to atleast lvl 20 and go check out Thidranki then swing by the housing areas. the Thid BG doesn't even compare to the real fun of RvR, RA, and all that other stuff that make PvP enjoyable and worth doing.

Ah hell, I compare everything to WOW... my kid's report card, the service at Outback restaurant, the Devil Ray's pitching (LOL) and sunset I watch at the end of the day.
Get used to it.... WOW's the big dog...every game will be compared to it from now until eternity....

That's one misleading title. Thought there would be something interesting in this thread.
I agree with you but I must say, making this thread is pointless seeing how this issue has been discussed time and time again and nothing has been resolved. So I suggest you just give up.

Why would you not want an up and coming game to be compared to the most succesfull MMO ever? and 'because WoW sucks' isnt a good answer ( even tho it does).

WoW had a Huuuge distribution....massive numbers...but look at the percentage nowadays of retainees, as opposed to the initial sales numbers.
seems the numbers are actually ALOT lower than other mmorpgs from the past.
Simple Fact: If WoW would have had the exact same number of CD's distributed in the teeny tiny manner EQ1,UO,Daoc and several others had done.......WoW would have close to half their subs , gone by now......putting the game under the performance of the Eq1 population-wise. all things considering....thats pretty frikken bad. lol
truely wonder how BLizzard would have done with only a `silent` 200k unit distribution, ya know..like all the other mmorpgs?

It wont happen. I have said this before. WoW was compared to EQ 1+2, EQ was compared to UO. its just the human condition.

Not really... Orcs look entirely different... They have more of a grunge look...

Ex-WoW player here.. anticipating the WAR release. My question is.. about the WOW and WAR comparison..
WHY DOES THE D.A.O.C 14 DAY TRIAL REQUIRE A CREDIT CARD?!?!?!?!?!
I would like to try DAOC to see what RvR is all about so I can see the differences in Mythic RvR compared to WoW's Pvp system, but I'm not going to hand my C/c info out for a trial version of the game. DAOC is the only game thus far that requires C/C info to play there trial. (THAT I HAVE SEEN)
Played EQ2 trial (meh), Guild Wars (meh), few others... COX playing right now think I'm going to subscribe to them. But I would like to try DAOC.... but not handing my c/c info until I see the game.
BTW I also did the trial for WoW.. which required no C/C info and I subscribed and played for that game for 2+ years ...
Give them the info and then log in and cancel the account. There completly free 2 week trial
Does it require cc? that sucks, don't like trials that ask you for credit card before you even get to play. Still, jsut cancel account right away after you create it
Didn't have any problems with mythic not canceling accounts or anything.
Er I have been burnt in the past. AOL trial account, ended up reactivating a c/c i had and I didn't know went to old address and it destroyed my credit. Oh.. and i cancelled my account and had proof and there was nothing I could do. I don't give my c/c out until I know its a product I'll like. Sorry, mythic but make the trial account free, I'll give you a shot. Don't want the hassle of hunting down people to cancel the account. or send a letter of cancellation. Every other MMO trial i have tried has been no c/c required. And looks like COX is gonna be my home til POTBS comes out. Hope you don't require a c/c on WAR trial. I probably will revert to a company that doesn't require c/c info for a trial, before I give my personal info via internet.
too bad wow and war have alot of similarities so it will be compared. same races, same combat, same graphics, just to name a few.
