thank you for the random ban mmorpg.com

apparently posting a single website url is warrant for a ban for spamming? even when its a legit website thats not even mine and in no way associated with gold farming or anyhting. i just came across it and thought it was a cool website. posted the url and said how i think it could be usefull to other gamers... only to get an email saying i've been warned for spamming/advertising or something? then a few days later,... YOU'RE ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BANNED.. with no explanation whatso ever.. booh mmorpg.. now i gotta start at 0 posts again!

Actually, creating a new account to skip a ban sentence is probably against the rules.  I know, for example, that creating multiple accounts is against the rules.  This is probably in order to avoid situations like this.  You probably posted a site which was deemed perverted, illegal, or otherwise unfit for the site.

    Live and learn.

    What was the web site?

Yeah maybe if you told us the website we would be able to tell you what they found wrong with it.

Unless I'm mistaken, MMORPG.com will give you a temporary ban for your first offense.  You're supposed to get a warning but apparently the ban IS the warning.  It's quite ridiculous.  Either that or the mods don't know what they're doing (given that they're volunteers it's quite likely).

The simple solution would be to make warnings not include a ban - if it's supposed to be that way it's not happening, or at least, it didn't happen to me when I was banned without warning (and wrongly, they later admitted).

Someone needs to run some quality control on who becomes a mod, cos I'm quite sure people become mods just to ban people.  Or that's the impression this site gives.  Either way, they're doing something wrong.

They once deleted all of my posts for no reason - like over a 100, all unrelated, just out of spite (seemingly) - and ignored me when I asked about it.   I'm not lying or exaggerating, that's exactly what happened.  They also banned me for circumventing a ban by using multiple accounts... when... get this... I wasn't banned in the first place.. and I don't have multiple accounts.

Who the hell are they recruiting?

ps.  I will always bring up the topic of my 100 or so posts that were deleted (nothing wrong with a single one of them, and typical of my current post history), in every thread concerning mod misuse, until someone finally answers why they felt the need to do it.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Better than the way I was banned. I was banned because I brought up the fact that the user "Gameloading" is a jerk. I had been seeing his posts for a long time and every single time he posts he is either taunting someone or just making someone feel bad, so I responded. Guess what, I got temp banned and he's still running rampant. Yeah, great site but I wish they were a little more logical when it comes to their rule enforcement. I think in a perfect world the guy who posts helpful responses on a forum shouldn't be banned and the 15 year old that just posts negative things all day should.

the url was www.ratemybuild.com i saw another person later ( the ownerr of the site i think) posting a couple days after me talking about it... maybe mmorpg thinks im both people or something? maybe mmorpg.com just automatically bans people if other people have clicked the report button on them more than twice or something. cause im at a loss

Bad idea:  Posting a link you were banned for.

at this point im more interested answers or input from other mmorp.com users than i am worried about this other account getting banned as well for some stupid reason

  • the_troutthe_trout Member Posts: 84

Umm, yeah dude, it was a joke. I didn't really want you to repost it.

For what it's worth I didn't see anything offensive on the site you linked. Then again I'm not sure exactly what the rules are around here.

Was this your first warning/ ban of any kind?  I'm just trying to figure out if their 'warning', is actually a 'temp ban', and therefore not really much of a warning at all.

First thing first. Please don't make a post to complain about a ban, or ask why you were banned. If you wish to appeal against a ban you can send an e-mail to this address: community@mmorpg.com. Include your username, when you were banned, and if possible copy and paste the text from the e-mail you received into there. Please be patient while waiting for the result of the appeal.

About warnings/bans: We operate a 3 strike policy however in certain circumstances this may change. Usually a warning will be given for something very minor or when you are on the verge of breaking a rule. Depending on the severity of you actions your first warning may actually be a ban of any length given what you did. For example, making some off-topic remarks in a thread where you post a little bit of information may get warning. Telling someone to "fuck off and die" is going to be instantly given a temporary ban. Your first ban is your "first strike" your second offence will result in a longer supsension, and a third offence will be 30-120 days depending on circumstances, or permenant if your persistantly breaking rules with no regard for others.

However if you take 10 minutes to read the guildines and 20 seconds before you post to make sure your not breaking them you have no reason to worry about being banned, and if you are still banned and are unhappy then I have provided the link where you can complain.

The rules of conduct are located here: http://www.mmorpg.com/disclaimers.cfm#conduct and you can find the link in the footer (very bottom) of every page on this site. Now im locking this thread because there is no need for it, and it contravenes the Rules of Conduct.
