About how many subscribers would you guess Lineage 2 has nowadays?

I don't believe NCsoft has ever released information on how many actual (current) accounts they have for NA/EU at any given time. I think they've released data on how many accounts there are worldwide (including Korea) and data on all accounts ever created, but never "this is how many subscribers we have right now in NA/EU."

Because of that, any guesses you get are going to be based on personal opinion, not fact. Completely unreliable, in other words (unless they can point you to an official release of numbers.)

You are also inevitably going to get people saying that something like 2/3 of the NA/EU population are farmers (bots) but once again, that is all based on speculation and personal opinion. No one can say for sure what percentage of the population are real players and what percentage are farmers.

My suggestion would be not to listen to anyone who actually gives you a number unless, like I said, they can point you to some sort of official documentation of that number.

If you just want to know if the servers are still populated, now that is a question people can answer for you.

No, I use to post the NCSoft quarterly financal reports here. It tells you down to the person how many active accounts in any country they have, the concurrency of users and just about anything else you want to know including unit sales and dollar amounts and profit.

I stopped keeping up with it last Nov/Dec when I quit. Last I saw it was around 110,000. That might have changed. NCSoft DID make a press release last year when L2 hit 100,000 in the western market. I think this site even put it in their news.

Its all public information on their website somewhere.

I will dig one up when I get home. its all on the PlayNC site in there somewhere. Its not the easiest thing to find but its there.

    EDIT

Here is the NCSoft press release from last Nov (that 14 million number is a little fishy, the quarterly reports do not show 14 million only about 1.5 million active for L2. I remember reading somewhere that 14 million was the total number of accounts ever created open and closed)

    Lineage II Continues Global Success

NCsoft today announced Lineage® II, with more than 14 million customers worldwide, has reached 100,000 active players in North America and Europe. The title started as a cult favorite of many massively multiplayer online (MMO) gamers in North America and Europe and continues its success as the premiere player-versus-player (PvP) online role playing game for the elite PvP player.

Lineage II was launched in North America in 2004 as a modest success. The game has since built itself into one of the top MMOs in the western markets, with a 25 percent growth rate in 2006. NCsoft credits the growth of the game to regular updates and free expansions to the product, and delivering features requested by players. Additionally, NCsoft has implemented aggressive policies to eliminate activities like "botting" and "farming" which give some players unfair advantages over legitimate players.

"This is a great franchise that has dominated Asia and now we are seeing very positive growth in North America and Europe," said Robert Garriott, CEO for NCsoft North America. "This game took a little time to find its audience because it is such a rich, tough and complex world. It is not a game for the faint of heart, but we worked to adjust the game to fit our customers and we’re seeing more players view it as the pinnacle of MMO gaming. More and more players are joining in and staying with Lineage II, making it one of the top MMOs in North America and Europe, as well as in the world."

Lineage II - The Epic Collection is available at North American retailers and at the PlayNC® online store for an estimated street price of US$29.99.

14 million was the number of all accounts ever created in the game, not active subscribers. What about acrive subscribers? Well, various pages shows around 1.5 million (or a bit less). But it's far less, you can see that if you actually play -> this game, like Ultima Online, is far, far more popular on private servers. Sad but true.

Knock the world right off its feet and straight onto its head.

No? Did you read my post? LOL I said that it is all just guesses and speculation unless someone points to an official release/document, which you did.

Did you see the press release from Nov 2006 I pasted? Thats 8 mnths ago, not 1 or 2 years ago. Don't make me dig for a recent quarterly report you know I will do it .....

I know a lot of us have turned on L2 over the last 6 months but lets not start bickering over nothing like the SWG folks. It doesn't prove anything anyway. Someone will just be back here next week asking the same darn question then back to square one we all go.

Sadly, it seems like L2 is dying.

I stopped playing for only 6 months and noticed that alot of players left the US server I was playing on during this time, many of them regulars and well known people.

Heck, even one of the largest alliances disbanded.

Bots in every corner it's unbelievable.

Haven't checked myself but I suppose there are still loads of players on the Euro servers, especially Franz.

I currently play Kain, which is now considered a "dead server."

It is definately a lot quieter than it was pre C3, lots of large alliances got banned or quit to play other games together.

BUT, there are still a good amount of players playing. I even see new people comming in and staying, once and a great while. It isn't as great as it use to be, but there is still people to play with and have fun. And if there is still people for me to have fun with, well then it's good enough for me. I couldn't give a lick on figures really, use to but it is pointless. A game is still good if there are still good people to play with. Thats the best answer I can give.

Here is the Quarter 4, 2006 report

    here

Here is a nice write up about Q1 2007

One thing I love about NCSoft is they do NOT hide anything. I wish SOE or Turbine did this.
