I hope this game doesn't have a monthly fee, if it does I am not going to play it. I just don't see it being worth paying for.

yeah it does have a monthly fee......any GREAT game will have one too. Atleast i dont know of any great games right now

This game is one of rare MMOs that brings something new to this genre , and it will be well worth the sub.
Like previous poster said, this game feels like it can bring something new and different and fresh to the genre, altho being a niche game. I've always been into pirate games, and this looks very promising with player run economi etc. I dont like all the decisions they've made, but who likes every feature in a game really? I support most of it, and everyone I've shown this game to so far, is going to buy it aswell
Im the opposite. If the game was free I wouldnt touch it because it would be supported with either advertising or gimmick bs like "hey you want some more cannon ammo? that will be $2.99".
So what in the first place has even made you to believe that PotBS would not have a monthly fee?

If you don't want to pay a monthly fee , go play Voyage Century Online. That game has naval combat , land combat and doesn't have a monthly fee, and it shows.
Every now and again I get bored of whatever MMO I'm playing and for the hell of it download one of the free ones.
They are always awful.
From what I've seen of this game, I'm more than happy to throw a couple of pints of beer's worth of money towards it a month
wonder if, by the time it comes out, fees on most mmorpgs will be closer, if not AT, $19.99/mo

Well, if 100,000 people can afford $15/month, but only say, 35,000 would be willing to pay $20/month, it would be much better to have the lower price. So I dont think the monthly prices will raise unless its absolutely necessary to stay afloat (har har!)

It will have a monthly fee, and Rick has stated that it will be about the normal for MMO's, so I guess that mean about $15USD, fairly reasonilble I think.
He has this thought because it is made by a rubbish company that has no idea what they're doing and have similar people supporting them waste time. I would never pay for something designed by a bunch of tortoises. You can say that they are "polishing" it, but how long does it take to polish a game that is only known by people like you. They can tell me that the more I wait the better it gets, how long will it take to distribute an update? Or will there be no great updates because they release it at the top of the mountain? If that is the case then it cannot get better, only worse.
IMHO, if they are telling the truth, then this game will have so much fancy stuff to do I will have nowhere to start. I will see it all the first month, and have nowhere to go. (I am just the guy who likes to start with a fair share of fun and have more stuff thrown at me after I have mastered everything I had wanted to do.)
I just don't like the idea of rolling back the release and adding stuff I don't know about. When there are plenty of other games that are already out, why choose the one that only disappoints?

Sounds like you would be a fan of Vanguard, half done rushed games seems to be what your asking for.

Honestly, some people call aion fantasy shit but this is well, it's just bullshit.
Try Pirates of the Burning sea, there's a good start. It actually brings something fresh like owning your own ship, fleet battles, boarding vessels and not your generic rock,paper,scissors classes.

Here's a couple facts aimed at this rediculous posts about 'zomg will this game have a monthy fee!!1one' :
A. Any game nowadays worth playing will have a monthly fee mainly because that guarantees content updates and constant improvement(hotfixes,bug fixes etc.)
B. The price of these monthly fees will over time continue to rise due to people's salary costs and the increased cost of server/equipment upgrades.
If paying a monthly fee for an online game is going to break your bank or force you to eat Raman noodle packages(college students exempt
) then you probably shouldn't be spending the time to play online games and maybe get a better job or a 2nd one.
I have yet to find a good game that does not have a fee. The free to play with the store models can be far costlier than one with a fee.
