Poor Fire Effects.

Ok, as a big fantasy RPG fan of all types of games, I am really looking forward to WAR.  Yes, I do play WoW and LOTR and Yes, I do like the so-called casual read: user friendly type of play and interface.  Therer are some thing s that do bug me about these types of games as well (lack of death penalty in PvP and lack of impact on world) But I have a technical job And play for fun and challenge NOT for "work " or for insane amounts of time.   I do like complexity and variation AND inovation of course as well.  I love the concepts that WAR brings and the polish that it promishes.   THAT is important.

Now I know it's not going to be EVERYTHING or the holy grail.  But I love the Idea of RvR and PvP in multiple different game types, constant fighting and in a AA A title with stylized graphics.     That's not for everyone - but hey I like it.  Don't tell me other graphics are "realistic", no, they aren't they still look like graphics, I like mine with a style and artistic merit at least.  I like modest humor done tastefully as well.  Both WoW and WAR have copied each other at different times: both copy EQ AND pen and paper D&D AND the original LOTR books AND European myths.  Get over it, it's high fantasy, it's a shared vision and all borrow from the other.

Now , One thing that bothers me is the terrible fire effects (graphic AND  sound)  I have seen for the fire in the bright Wizard video.  Iv'e seen and heard better fire effects in games that came out years ago.  I really hope this pre-beta video doesn't show up in the final game, it would be a real disappintment.

take a look at the video.  The fire seems blurred and fake.  And the sound effects all sound the same.   Anyway, with fire being the primary attack -- this would get old quick.  Any thoughts?

Man! are you for real dude? Did you show me the right vid because that footage you linked is freaking awesome lol. What do you want? the freaking wizard to be one big fireball where you cant even see your toon.

Just for the record ,you do know that's a beta  vid? I am sure by the time it goes gold the fire will have a bit more density to it.

Well, to get bored with the fire effects one would first have to be bored with the game because if the game play and content are very fun then I doubt I will pay that close attention to something as trivial as fire graphics. If it looks like fire chances are it is fire.

Yeah, I was looking at the pre-alpha build.  The new effects do look better, although the resolution of youtube ins't the best.  I was looking at another vid.   Anyway,   I still think they can do much better.  Im sure they will.   I prob won't play at launch anyaway, will wait 2-3 months.  I like to weed out the first few bugs- and the mad rush of early adopters(read:fanboys)   I can wait another Q.  They already  pushed it back a Q anyway.  I say it comes out March -April.

And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "

Ok, fire effects in WAR actually slightly better then WOW's fire effects. Especially when it comes to casting stuff. If you haven't noticed yet WOW uses 2D sprites for most of their trailing effects, while WAR looks like it is using actual particle effect. That part I don't know about and remains to be seen.

Lol the game ain't out yet and your main concern is the fire effect??? LOL

Don't you think that for now they need effects up to do BETA (which IMO will be a BETA not a finished product called BETA) So i guess we will see lot improved before the game come out.. still 1 year to go..

Does anyone realize BETA means its not finished yet? That they are still putting things into the game? This isint a test drive on a new bmw its a TEST of a unfinished game. Trust me they havent put in alot of things yet and if you got into beta thinking your going to be playing the game your dead wrong.

I thought the bright wizard fire effects were very nice. I can't think of any game with better fire effects ...

Please keep in mind...this is PRE-ALPHA test footage.

BESIDES, THAT FIRE WAS STILL KICKASS...I HAVE NOT SEEN FIRE BETTER THAN THAT IN ANY GAME OUT THERE!

clearly you have never played a wizard.  the most fun part of the class is the over the top spells and effects

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

As with all games, as the release date draws closer and Mythic finalizes the internal systems and core mechanics of the game they will do like all others before them have done and progressively optimize the graphics, animations, and overall look of WAR.

Basically right now, they will be using lower res and less articulate models to just get the "game" made and test out the script bugs.

Within those last trailing weeks before release we will surely see or notice a strong polishing of the graphics and a smoothing of the game's animations.

I still think the Fire looks bad ass.

Maybe it does.... I haven't seen an updated hi-rez vid of it yet.   However, considering it's going to be a game for 2008-2009 cutting edge, I hope it does look a lot better than the games that came out in the 2004-2007 timeframe.   That's all.

I mean, If I'm gonna spend 18-24 months playing a Wizard.... I want it to be cool as can be with the effects.    Just thinking about how I get tired of the same old animantions- effects and audio clips that  I heard thousands of times from other characters.  This is one thing I hope developers understand.
