This might seem like a dumb question, but because this game is apparently aimed at a male only audience... are you going to even be able to play a female?

Oh yes. You will indeed be able to play as a female. The Conan stories involved dangerously seductive women.. and so thus... Age of Conan will have them in the world and playable. Oddly enough, the development team has shown VERY little other than a brief look at a few chained to the back of the prison ship, of the female avatars and creation. No one really knows why... the main speculation is that they're just saving it for content to show off later in order to keep a steady stream of "New stuff" to show around.

 

Besides! My girlfriend is going to play! Whaddya mean male-only..?

The first quest is to rescue a prostitute who later offers her services to you for free. Honestly, for me, that says "our target audience is horny and male" to me.

Read some of the Conan stories my friend, and you'll soon know where it comes from.

The Conan books were written by an author who to this day was questionably sexist and racist. You'll find alot of meanings in Conan to be.... ahem.. questionable. The books, comics, and stories are VERY gory, graphic, and primal-natured. That being violence, sex, power, and more violence to top it off.

Again, just because it seems male.. doesn't mean the company is gearing it towards male-only. As i stated, my very own girlfriend is planning on playing the game with me, she's interested in the game and not just saying so to keep me happy or just to play along with me. She's not the only woman who's going to be playing.

 

 

and so what with the prostitute quest... prostitution is real you do realize? It happens on all levels... so maybe if you're playing a female character it'll be a male you save, who offers *his* services.

Again, the developers haven't released much on the female avatars. Your question was if you could play them. Yes.

So why point to argue with me on whether or not its geared for the male or female audience. Does it really matter? You can play a female avatar, its been confirmed.

And if you don't believe me. Watch developer videos, read interviews, and watch E3 videos. I'm not going to link you because that would defeat the purpose.

 HAHA I know my wife is all ready leery of the blood and gore but wants to try it. When she finds out how Male dominated the world tends to be she may not want to play. But my wife is pretty easy going over all and if the game is enjoyable enough she will play. She will get mad if I look too long at the female character models though.

On a serious note though (well not too serious),

I have not read much of anything on AoC because frankly it just doesn't catch my personal attention, the lore and all that.  But don't get me wrong (and remember I don't know much of anything about this particular game,) I hope for those who do play it that the female characters aren't limited to certain classes/races and vice versa.  I can understand it if say, there were Amazons in the game or something, but a lot of games nowadays seem to have gender specific classes/races...it's mostly in the good ol' F2P gray zone though and not so prevalent in the P2P area.  I'll start reading up on Conan though because I wouldn't want to miss a good game based on my own opinions (The whole schwarzenegger tight leather thing just doesn't do it for me.)
