Video Card Probs

I got problems with my video card. I think its drivers. I can't play FFXI - I finally installed it today, and after about 4 1/2 hrs of updates, i created chars and everything... watched the video sequence... and then as it was showing me round the elven city.. as in it did the first little bit, the game freezes for ages, minimises to Tell me I have had a VPU error, and then when i load it up its exited. There is no way to skip this begining bit after that i have found either....

I have a similar prob with UT2004, except I can actually play for a little while before the thing crashes, tho usually it completly crashes everything even tho its only a video error.

I have updated to the latest catalyst drivers, and tryed the omega drivers too.

My system spec is:

AMD 64 3400+
1 gig ram
Saphire Radeon 9600 Atlantis 256mb
80 gig HD
Windows XP pro completly updated

um... yeah u don't need anything else i don't think, u only really needed the video card but u knever know it could be a differant problem... it could even do with NIS.. cos i can't upload stuff through websites if thats turned on.. but the number of attacks i seem to get makes me paranoid about having it off for any length of time

If anyone knows of some decent drivers for my video card (which is kinda hard seeing as ATI drivers seem to suck) please let me know I really wanna play this game

Damn, you went ahead and got FFXI after all the bad reviews in this forum?  That wasnt smart.  Also, I have never had anything but problems with ATI cards.  I'd sell it on Ebay and get an Nvidia.  When I did play FFXI (God forgive me) I never had any problems with mine.

Well I managed to get into the game, and its phat, it truly is FF online... admitadly i can't play for too long without a video card problem but hey...

I can't afford a new vid card either... this one cost only £80 hehe... but i can see why now... i just got enticed by the 256mb of vram it had hehe.

So no one knows of any drivers that are good for ATI cards?

Well the only thing i can do is turn the AGP down from 8x to 4x and it seems to never crash...

ATI - Hardwear = Good
ATI - Softwear = Shit

Good Hardwear + Shit softwear = Shit product.

Its annoying.. they have such good stuff.. there better cards than any nvida card, its just that there softwear is soo abismal
