I have been seeing a lot of threads about whether people should try DAoC or not. So heres my take at least.
First off, if your playing on the US servers the best place to start as a new player would be on the Bossiney Cluster (Gareth, Lamorak and Ector servers). These servers are not ghost towns and are the most populated servers.
Choosing a Realm - Just a quick note for those who don't know Albion is based off of England and Scotland, Hibernia is based off Ireland and Midgard is based off Norse mythology (Norway). My suggestion is pick whatever one you want, all stand a chance on classic really. At the moment the realm of Midgard seems to be a bit more overpopulated than Hibernia and Albion, but not by to much. Population usually changes every few months anyway.
Picking a Class - This you will have to do by yourself because there are over 45 classes and going through each one of them would take awhile. While things are not perfectly balanced, each class pretty much stands a chance in RvR. So pick whichever one interests you the most.
Leveling - Do the starter quests in the beginning to get some gear. When you need gear the best thing for a new player to do is aurulite instances that you find in mainland dungeons or catacombs. When leveling you should try to level in either the mainland, Shrouded Isles or NF (this includes all battlegrounds and Darkness Falls dungeon) due to experience bonuses for those zones.
Battlegrounds - Battlegrounds are great places to get a feeling of what RvR is like. All battlegrounds (on classic servers) usually have a few people in them. Some good ones to stop by are :
- Lion's Den - Level 5-9
- Thidranki - Level 20-24
- Molvik - Level 35-39
- Cathal Valley - Level 45-49
Remember DAoC is ageing, but that doesn't mean its still not fun. Graphics might be a little dated, but if your looking for some fun RvR this is the game to try. Hope you enjoy DAoC, I did for several years. If you have any questions about DAoC, feel free to send me a private message.
