Leaving L2
I started L2 two weeks before the beta ended and I have to say that I bought the game immediately because I genuinely did like it.
In that first two weeks I got to level 20 and found the gameplay to be exciting and diverse and set in a colourful atmospheric world.
Since the retail came out I have reached 30 with that character and raised two others to 20 and 12. Some aspects of this game are marvelous ans I cant say technically that there is much wrong with it.
But! After level 20 the game rapidly begins to become a boring, uninspiring level grind. At level 30 and after four weeks of play I am already experiencing the same disenchantment with the boredom of killing things for xp that caused me to leave EQ at 56 after two years of play.
I am singularly unimpressed with the lack of any alternatives to killing to gain xp and with the complete absence of quests between level 20 and 30.
Actually there is one quest and I have still not completed it after starting it at level 24. As far as I can make out the is unanimous agreement that the quest is long and boring and not worth the bother.
My main compliant with this game is one that is common in many MMORPG's. Noob life is colourful, exciting and interesting to go through. After that there is nothing to do but kill vast numbers of the same type of monster until you level enough to move on to hordes of the next type of monster.
L2 is a radically different game after level 20 and I am very disappointed to find myself so quickly bored with a game that I initially liked immensely.
This is not a game that I would recommend spending $50 and subscription fees on in spite of its vast potential to be an excellent game.

I totally agree with Aerig. I stopped playing last week, and I feel much better. No more stress, no more boring quests that you are FORCED to do. No more mob camping for equipment, and no more of that damned level grind.
Too bad for a game that has stunning character graphics, but that's all that is good in this game.

I, for one, Strongly think the whole point of the entire game will improve after C1...
first off, there isn't much to do, yes...but get into a level 3 clan and bam! what do you have?

I used to think about those and think "what crap is that going to be" but even a simple raid in ant's nest is fun...
if i were you (since i have 3 months paid i'm not gonna quit :P) i would buy another month...

i know what you mean. this one time in open beta, this guy was single handedly camping the ol mahum command camp. what a jerk. KS'ing everyone one of our kills, and then to top it off, he has his own lil healer bot. he had a million adena weapon. hmmm, wonder how he got it? (bot farming). these people ruin the game. and then i heard of this exploit of the bone quest. could turn it in an infinite amount of times and never lose the bones. got people insanely rich quickly. they all get really expensive equipment and swords at too low a level. that's the problem with L2: too new and not enough security.
it's...scary. very, very, very, scary...the world we live in...that's why i love the virtual world.
Considering there was just a massive dupe, that some players got 1 billion adena with i vote no.

About a week after leaving L2 I have started a trial on a game called Endless Ages. After only a couple of days I have to say that, although it is not as initially impressive graphically, that EA is a hell of a lot of fun.

Chronicle 1, should have been added on release, instead they gave us a word wrap. Not to mention, people in Korea are gripeing about the exact same issues as the NA people are, except for maybe adena farmers.
Did you know that if you are in a guild war, that if another guild member kills you, you will loose from 7-10% of your experience? Why on earth, would it be set up to be like this? IF this was a pvp game, they would try to promote pvp, not make you avoid it. No one pvps now except level 4 newbs, or people who are going to quit and are just going out with a bang. Its not worth it. Experience loss is very drastic in this game.
Nobody here will doubt that Lineage 2 could be a great game. But with all the problems, it just seems like its takeing a huge step backwards. If i die in pvp i shouldnt have to kill monsters for 3 hours to make up for that death. And there CS department seems like its very very bad.
7fold, I completely agree with you. The biggest pull for me to L2 was the self-proclaimed "harcore" PvP and it was almost as big a let-down as SWG. As a MMORPG vet, I find L2's PvP mechanics repulsive as is actually the main reason I stopped playing.

I played CB and OB, got my character to lvl 30 in OB. Held off on buying because they pushed back the C1 date. Then my friend gets the wonderfull CDkey ban that was going around, he took it back and quit. Then the duping, botting, etc.... My guild still plays, but some are starting to quit.
Personally I went back to the game i was playing before, ShadowBane(i know :P) but at least UBI has started getting some (and i mean some) of their crap together in that game, too bad its a year later and alot of ppl quit.
If you can stand the grind, more power to ya, and enjoy. But 10+hrs per day for a month to get lvl 30, and thats not constant grind of course, alot of slow running too (orc shaman) just killed the game for me. That and the PvP system...I like the idea but it needs help, it totally discourages any kind of open PvP and encourages griefers.
that couldnt be more wrong. i was in , at the time(dont know about now becasue although i bought it, its uninstalled and i quit) the highest lvl clan on one of the original 3 servers. as i found out, almost every single person in the guild didn't get endless lucky drops that i was amazed by, they all used dupes to get rich beyond what they will ever need. and they will own the honest players, sad but true. How long does it take to make 5 million playing honest, when these guys were doing it in a matter of minutes.
This game, money is power. The guilds you see braggin on forums, of course deny it. who wouldnt, but it was widespread among the power gamers.
my free trial ended, I am going to finish this month out and look at C1 then if I am still disinterested I will leave.
The game has to many down sides.
People Can bait you into a fight and Kill your targets.
Roaming packs of lvl 4 reds with highest ng equipment avaible
No roleplay
No quests worth doing
No direction other than gaining money and levels
But its a nice looking game
compare city of heros and try to imagine this being made by the same people?
if searching for monsters and hacking at them for hours and hours and hours is fun then please by my guest.
More Whining about the PvP, if you cant win a fight then dont fight....simple. The PvP turns me on cause i play the game alot...yea i will say that if you casually play the game that it will not give you much...cause your never goin to get very good equipment....and will lose most of your fights and be discouraged..... we have PvP all the time....4 v 4 competitions....man its fun.... yea it has penalties..but id rather have strict penalties than an easy piece of crap game that doesnt penalize you at all.....

That is actually tru now that I think about it...why play a game that does not give any penalties when you could have a ga,e like this.....
let those people who use bots use bots.....they are just showing that they can't play games honestly and deserve to be shot.....
I mean I have never played the game but I am really looking foward ot trying it....it looks like an awsome game...i mean and people say in the seiges your own guild mte can kill you.....and why should they be able to?? well lets se in a real seige your own guild can kill you I mean...if you ask me thats cool...thats really realistic

I love PvP and even enjoy PKers once in a while.
But JohnnyV is stupid in his attempt to call any one who thinks the pvp in this game is in need of work a whiner.

How about if you can't win a fight and they kill you, camp outside town hunting you down and killing you over and over and laughing and no one stops them, because the won't drop thier starting dagger or sword and do 320 damage to you in one hit.
or 4 reds named pk1 pk2 pk3 and pku circle the town attacking every player who leaves, dieing to a few and killing most of them.
Yeah, if you don't play this game religiously you wont achieve greatness. Thats irrelivent and obvious with most games.
The penalties can be used against other players. If some wants to lose exp to lower his level for farming, then the penalty isn't really penalizing then is it?
Strict or not, they need to penalize in a different manner, a manner that can't be enjoyed as much. hehe
